I embarked upon Ultra Seven X today, which will be my first Ultraman series. The tone feels a lot more like Garo than Kamen Rider or Super Sentai. I'm having trouble picking apart the cliches (amnesiac trenchcoat hero, check) from the stuff that's genuinely well-done.
|
Garo episode 18. That climactic fight is probably the fight I've been waiting for ever since seeing the suit in action. Not only did the actual suits are in for 90% of the fight, but they also incorporate wirework to help the suit actors move around. It's really amazing. I wish we get more of these kind of fights.

UltraMan Episode 31: This was an intriguing episode overall. The Keronia concept was brilliant and interesting about a plant that can disguise itself as human. I knew something wasn't right with the Gotoh guy who has been a member for 20 years. Though Hayata I really enjoyed with this episode with both being optimistic in actually believing the guy instead of being suspicious. I also enjoyed his knowledge too about knowing about the insectivorous plants. Though The Keronia had a very creepy look for a plant monster. I loved UltraMan's new green ring blast that defeated it when the Specium Ray didn't work. The battle was fun and I enjoyed the dog fight part of it too when the VTOL took on the other Plant-Men ships and UltraMan came in too. Getting close to the end and I am enjoying it a lot, can't wait for more.
UltraMan Episode 32: Pati was a freaking delight, I wish she was a part of the Science Patrol Team the whole time. She was just the right amount of taking her job seriously even on vacation and fun with her jokes too. I liked that Hayata tricked the others into taking Pati out around town on Vacation that was great that he'd pull something like that. I liked Pati and Hayata together a lot that was good and fun. The monster I felt bad for because it seems like it was just disturbed but it caused a lot of forest fires. Damn UltraMan was brutal this episode a lot of head smashing, throws, and blasting to make sure it was defeated. Fun episode and I can't wait for more. UltraMan Episode 33: This was another one of their great episodes of the show. Mephilas was such an interesting villain with his pacifist ways and wanting someone to give him the Earth. I enjoyed Satoru, Fuji's Brother, that he stood for the Earth and there was nothing on another planet that would give him happiness. That must have been fun for Fuji's actress to get to be the one destroying the city. Hayata really had a great episode with laughing at Mephilas not being successful and that he was one who stops aliens from breaking laws. That he showed who is he and what he stands for is what I loved a lot. Also that he talked as UltraMan was great too. I loved that the fight was basically a stand off and that Mephilas understood that he lost and left peacefully was really intriguing. He was an awesome villain in that way, I was really impressed by him I can't wait for more of these final episodes. UltraMan Episode 34: This absolutely has to be the most hilarious episode of UltraMan. This was just a kooky mess of plans that just didn't work because Skydon was too heavy. Though I can't not mention the beginning where Hayata gives the Captain his umbrella by dropping it from the sky from the VTOL lol that was hilarious, though the scene afterwards about the guy committing suicide was kind of really dark and out of nowhere there. Anyways yeah the Science Patrol had a lot of fun plans there and I am not even sure if they would scientifically work; though it was a lot of fun to see them try. The fight scene even was comedic when UltraMan ended up getting crushed because Skydon was too heavy to lift even for him. Though later I totally accept the two of them crashing into each other as Skydon is falling ends up destroying him. Also Hayata trying to transform with his spoon was just so funny, this episode took every chance they could to make a joke and it was hysterical. A very fun and kooky episode for the Science Patrol and UltraMan. Only 5 episodes left can't wait! UltraMan Episode 35: From the funniest episode to the saddest. Seabozu I just felt so much sympathy for it because he just wanted to go back to his friends and be in peace in the monster graveyard. This episode was brilliant in playing up how sad the monster was and how much regret Hayata had for the monsters he had fought and left in Ultra Space. I really enjoyed how much that showed of Hayata's character that it still bothers him that he can't just let leave these monsters be and have world peace too. Also Akiko was pretty on the ball here with figuring out Seabozu just wanted to go back to space. I like when the Science Patrol is used well and I think Akiko and Hayata were both stand outs this episode which doesn't happen as much as you'd think lately. Hayata did everything for this monster and really wanted to see it happy and I enjoyed that a lot. This was a brilliant episode and I can't wait for the final 4. UltraMan Episode 36: They just saved all the good episodes for the end I guess lol. This was fantastic for Hayata, Arashi, and Ide. Mostly Arashi with his determination and wanting to defeat this monster and make up for his mistakes I enjoyed a lot. Also seeing Ide make a new blaster to help defeat monsters was good too, I'm glad that they show that he has been working on stuff for years to help defeat these monsters. I like that it shows that he is diligent and wants to help keep the world safe. I loved Hayata and Arashi's team work getting the kids out and distracting the monster. Also that Hayata's camaraderie made him come running even blinded from the hospital bed to go out and make sure his friend was safe. UltraMan fighting blind was something else and kind of weird with the lights not on in his eyes though his blind site looked better than mine without my glasses on lol. Still I'm glad that Arashi ended up making up for mistakes and helped UltraMan defeat Zaragas. Though I will say it was a bit weird for the Global Defense Committee to get all up in arms about attacking this monster making it more violent because some of the others did the same or they actually learned from the earlier monsters and actually wanted to save the city from collateral damage, so not really that weird at all in that perspective. Well 3 episodes left I both can't wait for them and going to be sad when I finish this series. UltraMan Episode 37: This was another amazing episode! Literally saving all the best for last here. Poor Pigmon...*Cries* he went out helping the Science Patrol, I felt so bad for him because he didn't deserve to swatted like a fly. Anyways moving on to other parts I loved Ide and Hayata this episode because of Ide's depression that UltraMan has been saving the day and his weapons haven't done anything. It's realistic I mean even I sometimes have felt the same way watching it. Though this was great learning more about how Hayata operates as UltraMan because he doesn't take the Science Patrol for granted and he remembers all the times he was saved by them. Also that he doesn't transform unless things are going south for them makes me find him more likable and interesting. I also enjoyed him helping snap Ide out of his depression was great and Ide's new weapon was impressive. I also loved the combination between Ide and UltraMan taking one of the two monsters together. It was a great comrade episode just like the last one with Arashi and Hayata now with Ide and Hayata. We needed more episodes like this with character relationship building before but still better late than never. UltraMan Episode 38: A very nice Star Trek-ish episode of UltraMan. I am glad the Science Patrol got to go to another planet it just seems like something they'd do. This was good to see the team dealing with the monsters and environment of Planet Q and the crazy things they had to do to survive. Especially Toshio and Ide's oxygen tank jet pack to cross a valley to get back to the ship after they got the part they needed, this actually sounds more like a video game mission. I found it hilarious that Arashi got blinded this episode when he didn't the against the other monster earlier, it's like this is what you missed lol. Captain Toshio is just insane at times definitely with his crazy plans or weird rules lol. Hayata was good with coming up a plan when they were stuck and helping stay with Arashi. Though UltraMan continues to pull new things out of his arsenal when the Energy Disc and the Specium Ray both didn't work he pulls out his magical telekinesis to lift the monster with his mind and throw it away making it explode...I don't know where this came from but damn UltraMan has the most random move set ever. I'm just going to accept that Hayata just figured out this move here out of desperation instead of believing he could do it before, sometimes I just love random Toku ridiculousness. One episode left I'm not sure I'm ready for it but I can't wait. UltraMan Episode 39 (FINAL): Wow just wow, this was one hell of a finale. This felt like the movie Independence Day during parts. The UFO vs VTOL battle was awesome, it's great to see that Earth technology can stand up to Alien technology at times not that we are so far behind them that our weapons do nothing. This was definitely a win for the Science Patrol this episode. The threat was definitely intense I was really worried for everyone this episode. Man Zetton was a beast and I can't believe what happened in the final fight that UltraMan lost and nearly died and that Arashi and Ide defeated Zetton with the new weapon, that's just crazy there, it just blows my mind that the Science Patrol beat the final monster and not UltraMan. Zoffy was interesting, it's good to finally meet the character. Also good to hear more from UltraMan too and how he was willing to sacrifice his own life because he's lived a long time and wanted Hayata to have his life, extremely noble of UltraMan. Zoffy, was much better than I expected him to be, he wanted to help bring UltraMan home and was inspired by his love of Earthlings that he helped both UltraMan and Hayata out which was fantastic. I feel really bad for Hayata because it seems like he lost the memories he had of UltraMan. Which now brings me to the theory of was Hayata actually comatose or dead for all that time after he met with the Red Sphere and UltraMan was basically living as Hayata during that time? Brings lots of interesting question about this series with that, makes me want to re-watch it. I'll post my feelings on the entire series soon but it was a whole lot of fun and I definitely see why this started a whole franchise. I can't wait for more of the UltraSeries! |
UltraMan: Wow, I can't believe I finished all of the original series so far. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this because I saw the first episode of UltraSeven a long time ago and wasn't really grabbed by it from it. This, this was after a lot of other series I've watched and figured for the anniversary I'll watch it. Well that I bought a body suit to cosplay UltraMan obviously means I enjoyed the freaking hell out of it. I can totally see why this started an amazing franchise. Now obviously being in the sixties it was very episodic in nature however that each monster of the week came from a different place whether it was outer space, underground, evolved plant, or just some overgrown monster it helped make each episode unique and make each way the conquer the threat engaging to find out how they would. The final episodes were leagues better than some of the series but this show had a lot of average episodes and then out of nowhere you'll get these fantastic episodes that remind you why you love this show. Hayata, the host of UltraMan was an excellent character, he was strong, intelligent, good at handling difficult situations, and selfless. He didn't have as much focus as normal main characters do but his actions spoke louder than his words and he did stand out when he did have focus, I mean I spent a lot of money and time to build a cosplay of him, that means I love the hell out of the character lol. The UltraMan didn't actually talk much except for the beginning and end and some episodes here and there but I enjoyed him and the lessons he learned from Earth He was very caring, protective, and kind; he felt bad for what he did to Hayata and wanted to make sure Hayata didn't die at the end and was willing to stay on Earth to keep him alive or sacrifice his own life to do the same. So very altruistic alien here. The Science Patrol was a very entertaining team like most of the teams in UltraMan are. The Captain, Toshio Muramatsu, was played by the same guy who plays Tachibana in Kamen Rider so it was nice to see him again, playing a crazy captain who gave some questionable orders at times or crazy ideas but he did succeed when he needed to. Akiko felt like the heart of the team and that things wouldn't get done without her. She didn't do much at times but I still enjoyed her even if she didn't get the best treatment. Hoshino was annoying in the beginning because of all the focus he got, then got better with helping the Science Patrol, and then completely disappeared from the show all together lol. Arashi was the big guy of the group, he was brash and always liked to fight. He was confident in his skills and loved the Spider Gun he had. He was the guy who would do the things when he shouldn't do the thing and provoked monsters a lot but he was fun and interesting. Ide, god Ide got the most character focus at times because it's either something he needs to build or something he did but man he did develop more. Like I just thought he was the comic relief of the group but he turned out to be a scientist who built weapons for them. He also was the one that worried that they were useless because UltraMan was defeating the enemies too which I enjoyed about him that someone cared about that. Though Hayata talked him out of it and that UltraMan needed the Science Patrol as much as they needed him and in the finale they really showed that. UltraMan Zoffy was interesting for his small appearance but I was happy with him and his helping both Hayata and UltraMan. This had lots of fun moments, dark moments, sad moments, and awesome moments; there was so much in this show that they packed into 39 Episodes. UltraMan know how to do well with not as long runs as some other series. Overall this was an amazing science fiction fantasy show with great action, stories, and characters. It was a great series to watch for it's 50th Anniversary.

So I started Jikuu Senshi Spielban yesterday. It has been a show I've always wanted to watch since I was little.
It was awesome. The action scenes were well choreographed, the music was great, the special effects and mecha scenes were really good, some awesome villain designs, and the emotion of Spielban and Diana's past was something you really felt. Can't wait to see more. |
Recently finished episode 30 of Juspion and I'm about to start on 31. The series had a pretty rough start, but it is shaping up to be one of my favorites.
|
watched the Garo spin off movie, Bikuu a couple of days ago. It was pretty interesting. The plot wasn't given away by the trailers, always a good rging. The new characters they introduced were king of cool. Although I think somebody was watching.reading too much Game os Thrones when they were explaining the main villian a bit. And given her somewhat emotionless state in Makai no Hana and those two Retsuden episodes as a character she didn;t drag the movie down. There was enough suntleness to portray what was going on, so that was a pleasant surprise I thought. Mu only real nit pick is why during the mind fights is why Bikuu's outfit changes into this skimpy white. As a guy, visually not complaing, it's just for the amature creator in me it didn't make any sense. The only thing that made less sense was the old man's. I me it's supposed to re[resent their "true self, I think that was the line I might have to rewatch it later to make sure, but still. And for those of you that have watched Retsuden Daichi isn't that annoying here as he was in his episode. and there is a post credit scene that does leave things open fora sequel if they decide to go that way.
Speaking of, for those who watched those two episodes of Garo Makai Retsuden first, like me, and was hoping there would be something that would explain thing in at least Bikoo's episode there isn't as far as I could tell. with how the ovie ended you could make a case about why maybe but it wouldn't be much. |
Just watched the Garo: Asura special, which was created in conjunction with New Japan Pro Wrestling. It features a Garo from long ago named Gouki, played by NJPW Star Hiroshi Tanahashi. Being a pro wrestler his acting is about where you'd expect it to be. If I have to be honest the woman who plyed Ren wasn't all that good either. Although another NJPW star Togi Makabe as the main villain and he's kind of entertaining in his brief appearance. It was obviously filed against a green screen, but the painting like background they choose worked well since the premise of the special is Karou is telling a young Raiga about Gouki. Maybe not the best, but it was decent for what it was, and we get a new Garo added to the legacy.
|
I just watched Garo Ashura too and while admittedly it wasn't a whole lot, I'd go as far to say it was better than almost the entirety of Makai Retsuden save for maybe the last 2 episodes.
It was amazing to see Kaoru back with a young Raiga, and framing it like a story was a great idea since it worked so well with the green screen backdrops. A while series done like that wouldn't work well, but for a one-off special it was perfect. The acting was passable and while there wasn't much in the way of choreographed fight scenes, the armour stuff at the end more than made up for it. Then to top it all off Savior in the Dark plays over the credits. I'll will NEVER get tired of that song. |
GARO Ashura: This was totally amazing! Well first of all it was great to see Kaoru again after seeing Kouga again and with a child Raiga was adorable and sweet. Now Gouki's story was awesome, well I am a fan of Hiroshi Tanahashi from NJPW and I love watching him fight. So watching him in GARO was just another bonus. I enjoyed Gouki besides being powerful being inspiring and being exactly what you would expect from someone who held the title of Garo. I would love a series with him but I think he'd have to stop wrestling for a bit to do that. I loved his GARO Soar form that was an interesting design but just loved the fight with it and the finisher was great too. Great mix of wrestling and Garo here. Very entertaining special. Makes me want to go watch more of Hiroshi's fights. Well with the original series airing next I'm not sure what to do for my GARO fix.
|
The Garo Ashura special was so damn fun. It was great to see both Mika Hijii and crazy greenscreen stuff again. I sorely missed both during Makai Retsuden. I know absolutely nothing about Japanese Pro Wrestling (which apparently is a thing), but I did enjoy Gouki, his story, and his obviously foam sword. I would definitely be up for seeing some more ancient Garo stories like this in the future (that aren't anime, obviously).

UltraMan Neos Episode 1: This was a good and fun first episode. I enjoyed the HEART team in the beginning though Kagura easily stole my interest pretty fast. Honestly it reminded me of similar elements of UltraMan that I've loved before and UltraMan Orb's first episode too. I am intrigued by the Dark Matter phenomenon going on here and bringing rocks and more to life. The battle with the Rock monster was pretty awesome overall it reminded me a bit of Nexus at times. Kagura just has no fear here with breaking out of the jet to go try and save the his teammate. Kagura is just likeable, courageous, and heroic. Neos is amazing, his agility is amazing I loved his battle when he got show off what he could do against the monster. He was jumping and flipping all over the place. Well I can't wait for more, I do tend to enjoy the shorter series.
UltraMan Neos Episode 2: Well I enjoyed learning about how Kagura became Neos and it was good to see Zoffy again. The mystery tower and the Zamu Alien was intriguing, I enjoyed seeing Kagura try and convince the alien not to evolve. I also felt sad for it that the evolution went wrong so Kagura had to stop him. Neos kicked butt though he is awesome watching him fight and I love Kagura's conviction. The HEART team is kind of growing on me even though they barely get any character right now. Still a fun show and I can't wait for more. UltraMan Neos Episode 3: I am really loving Kagura mainly because of his passion to both understand the monsters and the world; as well as how much he wants to protect and save people. The fish monster was intriguing and lead to a great fight which is one of the highlights of this series because of Neos' awesome moves and agility. My other favorite part was that he returned the monster to its normal state and calmed it down rather than destroying it. Not all the monsters are evil so I do love when they try to save them when it is possible to do. I am starting to like the team their interactions were fun and especially them getting the Captain to buy sushi at the end was hilarious. It's definitely has a feel that is reminiscent of the original UltraMan series and I'm pretty sure that's deliberately done. Well I can't wait for more. UltraMan Neos Episode 4: I love the cooperation between Neos and UltraSeven 21 that was awesome. They both kicked ass this episode and both fight insanely well. I love all the wrestling moves and other attacks they pulled off was great to see. It's interesting that UltraSeven 21 can mimic other humans like he did, I wonder why he doesn't take his own host. They HEART team is pretty standard here but they kind of took a little back seat focus to the random civilian story here not that I mind that every now and then and it looks like we're getting more of a focus on the lancer-type character next episode too so that should be good. Really enjoying it though the action makes it well worth it and Kagura's personality of always wanting to help people. UltraMan Neos Episode 5: This was a really good episode for Uematsu, Hino, and the Captain. I liked that Hino made up for mistake and even though he quit the HEART team he felt the need to go back and make sure his team was safe. It was very reminiscent of something that Arashi went through in the original series. Uematsu going to safe the kid and risk his own life was great and him trying to help the Captain realize Hino is important to the team too was as well. The Captain knew very well how important Hino is to the team and didn't even scold him at the end for coming to help them and that just shows he's a good captain and not as crazy as some others I've seen lol. Like normal always love to the team defeat the monsters without the UltraMan's help. The action is great like normal and I do love when the UltraMan and the group help defeat the monster together. Kagura was supportive, caring, and protective like normal and still continues to be awesome. Probably the best episode so far and I can't wait for more. UltraMan Neos Episode 6: Well it's nice to see a connection to a past alien here. Turned into a very dire situation for some of them though but Kagura and 7-21 got it. I have to say that UltraSeven 21 fighting at normal size was a bit weird but awesome though I wouldn't mind more of that in UltraMan but it might make it too Sentai/Rider-like if that happens. Still UltraSeven 21 was badass and have pretty cool powers and I enjoy him being this helpful secondary Ultra character. Kagura was also great trying to help the alien learn that their leader wanted what happen to happen if things went wrong. Too bad the alien was too stubborn but good thing for Neos and 7-21. Great action like normal and the shots they get of the attacks are brilliant too. This show has been really enjoyable and I can't wait for more. |
Did they give a reason as to why Garo's fourth episode was skipped?
|
Just finished watching the Bikuu movie. My memories of her in Makai no Hana are fuzzy and I found her Retsudan episode rather forgettable (Daichi's was good though), but damn this movie made me see the character in a whole different way. So so good. It's really great to see a whole film centred around a different aspect of Makai lore.
My only complaints are that all the "twists" you could see a mile off and that white costume Bikuu wore in the mind realm was really really stupid. The film does a fantastic job of avoiding any overtly sexual imagery but then they throw that in instead :/ Especially enjoyed the ending. Not just the confrontation between Bikuu and Byakki but her immediate reaction to Daichi as well :lol |
UltraMan Neos Episode 7: It's good to get back to Neos. It was a fun episode seeing Bamo and the scientist's bond together and Kagura and Nana having fun with them. Though it sucks that Bamo went out of control but glad he was able to be calmed instead of destroyed. It was a nice heart felt episode and it had fun moments too. Also the action was incredible again. Well I can't wait for more.

UltraMan Neos Episode 8: This was a great episode for Ayumi and learning about her and her professor's daughter. Also great action like always and a great lesson about independence and humankind fighting to not be monsters. Enjoyable episode and series so far.

Garo Honoo no Kokuin's English dub. That's an AMAZING first episode, shows world building, cool fight scenes, dash of humor and insane animation. Should have watched the Garo series sooner

UltraMan Neos Episode 9: The action was amazing and hilarious here. I didn't particularly care about the kids story here but it did show they had heart. It kind of felt more original UltraMan-like the last few episodes. Well I can't wait for the last three. UltraMan Neos Episode 10: Okay so the last two episodes weren't the greatest. This episode showed me what was great about this show. The HEART team working together and trying to save their Captain was brilliant. They all worked together and UltraMan Neos and UltraSeven 21 all saved him. It was intense and all the right amounts of drama and action. This was a freaking amazing episode. Now I am back on the hype train and can't wait for the final two episodes. UltraMan Neos Episode 11: Damn that was just a brilliant episode. Once again highlighting the strength of the HEART team. Well this was a great start of a two-part finale tying back into the Zamos race and the evil leader of the Planet. He seems very powerful just from his video he sent. Anyways the HEART team fighting against the special forces and going against the government to protect the future of the Zamos race was simply amazing. The lengths Kagura went to stop them from taking him was great. Also the fight against the monster that Menschheit sent was crazy especially with Neos getting drained of his energy. Coming back and defeating was amazing, that ending was something else too. I am just hyped from this episode I can't wait for the finale. UltraMan Neos Episode 12: That was a fantastic finale! Continuing the hype from the last episode and building to epic final battle. Loved the resolve of Kagura that he was willing to sacrifice himself to save the future of the Zamos people. UltraSeven 21 and Neos vs Menschheit was great and that the Zamos alien gave up his energy to save the UltraMen was a powerful moment to me. I loved how Kagura's distraction against the CIB was just to beat the crap out of all these people lol and Uematsu and Hino coming in to save them was great too. I loved the HEART team they were fantastic. This show ended amazingly and I am sad that it's over but UltraMan does do pretty great short series. Well I am off to pick my next Ultra Series to watch but damn I loved this one a lot. |
Just finished Return of Godzilla, and I have to be honest and say that I was disappointed. The first half of the film was basically "should we nuke Godzilla or not?" which eventually built up to a lot of sequences of Godzilla standing in one spot, and some close-up shots of the monster that revealed just how cheesy the suit looks. Those shots of the foot touching down on the ground are especially painful - the thing looks like it was carved out of wood and quickly painted. Then Godzilla falls into a volcano. Maybe if the pace was sped up a bit, it'd be a lot more enjoyable. I have heard that Godzilla 1985 sped things up a bit, so maybe I'll have to check it out.
It definitely occupies one of the very lowest spots on my list of Godzilla film rankings. |
Just started watching Ultraman Nexus. I like it, but crunchyroll's streaming is absolutely terrible.

Just finished watching the Ultraman X movie and I enjoyed it a lot. The set-up and plot feel a bit lower stakes after the finale with Greeza, but it still manages to have a big movie-feel about it. That moment where Tiga and Ultraman appear is excellent, especially with the obvious reverence they're trying the original.
My only other complaint is that the whole X gimmick has been almost completely forgotten about. Exceed appears in the opening fight, but the only time any of the kaiju armour appears is during clips from the series itself. I understand they don't really need to flog the toys any more (and the series kinda dropped it once Exceed showed up too) but it was an element I really liked about X. The new movie-exclusive armour is pretty sweet though, especially with the weapon being a combination of Ultraman's Beta Capsule and Tiga's Spark Lens. But yeah, otherwise it's a pretty great movie that celebrates the 50th anniversary of Ultraman and the 20th anniversary of Tiga. I love Orb, but I didn't realise how much I'd missed Xio. When it comes to Ultraman big organisations will always win out with me. |
Gavan Episode 23: Back to Gavan since the subs finished and I grew tired of watching as it came out episode by episode. Normal Great Gavan action and plots similar to the MotW in Garo. I continue to enjoy it.
Gavan Episode 24: Easily the best episode of Gavan. It focused more on Gavan and Mimi and learned more about them rather than random side characters of the week. It was very good and the action was even better too. More new stuff than rinse repeat. If Gavan is like this moving forward I'll be much happier. Loved Retsu's resolve of wanting to protect Earth too. |
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone here have raws for Seigi No Shinboru Condorman or Seiun Kamen Machineman? I've had no luck finding any on my own, so. ;~;

Space Sheriff Gavan Episodes 25 and 26: It was too good to last for Episode 24's greatness. 25 was normal stop villain plot with typical Gavan flair. Episode 26 was a better episode, I felt bad for Gavan because of what happened. That he has to return to this little girl and explain what happened to her brother because of the Dream Bird group was something. Also an actual glowing prop for the Lazer Sword was great too. I might skim through some of the episodes to get to hopefully something with more plot.
SS Gavan Episodes 27 and 28: Skimmed through 27 which was the normal episodic flair of the Showa Era. Great action though. Episode 28 was freaking brilliant with Monica, she was a brilliant villain, had great moments from Hunter Killer, Mimi, and Retsu too. These are the episodes I like more that give us stuff from the main cast instead of the supporting or civilian of the week people. |
Well I recently started Ultraman X on crunchyroll since I've had an itch for years to get into Ultraman and I thought that this show would be a good starting point. So far the show is alright. There is no real story yet other then the mystery of Daichi's parents, but even that hasn't really developed recently.
The characters are tolerable so far and non of them are as annoying as the group from Drive or Onari. The miniatures and action choreography are really nice and alot better than what I have seen before in toku. Overall this show is okay so far. There isn't anything really keeping me at the edge of my seat right now, but the show isn't bad either its just kind of there for me right now. After I finish X I plan on watching Orb which I have heard excellent things about. |
Space Sheriff Gavan Episodes 29 and 30: Skimmed through 29 seemed filler-ish again. Episode 30 was freaking brilliant and finally brings us some big changes to the show. With San Darva, Don Horror's son, in the mix brings a new layer here. Especially with Hunter Killer seemingly betraying Makuu. Also, Space Sheriff Alan seems intriguing too. Gavan kicked ass once again and it was masterful. I can't wait for more.

Last night I started Ultraman Gaia, which is my first 90s Ultra, the rest have been either Showa-era shows (the original & Leo) or 2000s/2010s shows (Nexus, Max, Mebius Ginga/S X and Orb). 3 episodes in and kinda digging it. |
Yeah, go Orb. I didn't even make it past three eps of X.
Speaking of Orb - which eps are the clip episodes so far so I don't waste time DL'ing them? |

Space Sheriff Gavan Episode 31: Continuing the story line with Space Sheriff Alan was fantastic. Both San Darva and his mother continue to be good villains too. This was definitely a creepy episode but a good one with Alan and Gavan kicking ass till they rescue the princess. Well if we get more episodes like this Gavan has definitely picked up now.
