In terms of tenure, Tennant and Smith's runs are still nothing compared to Tom. Him leaving must have been a huge shock.

If you're looking, here's what I recommend:

1) Don't buy the new ones yet, unless you really want the episodes or can't find any other versions. Just because they're being released now doesn't mean they're better.

2) Special Editions whenever you can find them. They usually have more bonus features and occasionally more story. Unless you really don't care about the special features. For that, there's the internet

For Second Doctor one should absolutely have Tomb of the Cybermen. That was a terrific story.

I thought so. I've just never seen it or heard much about it. The most I've ever seen was a montage on the Proms that aired today

The War Games is great, but I'd recommend the new Ice Warriors DVDs due out soon. I love me some Troughton and I love me some Ice Warriors. Most people, I'd imagine, would go for Tomb of the Cybermen though, which is also an awesome story to be sure.

What do you mean by that? The new ones getting released usually ARE the best versions. Unless you mean the stories themselves aren't the best.

My recommendations would be (I shall give non-Dalek recommendations where I can :p)

1st Doctor: Beginnings Set (Unearthly Child/The Daleks), Dalek Invasion of Earth and the Aztecs

2nd Doctor: Tomb of the Cybermen

3rd Doctor: Anything with the Master in - The Daemons and the Sea Devils are 2 of my favourites

4th Doctor: Genesis of the Daleks, Deadly Assassin, Brain of Morbius

5th Doctor: Caves of Androzani

6th Doctor: Trial of a Timelord

7th Doctor: Remembrance of the Daleks and the Curse of Fenric

8th Doctor: Eh, watch the movie but then go and buy the Big Finish Audios instead. They're better.

Stories. You can get just as good stories for a lower price.

Just out of interest, is anyone listening to the Destiny of the Doctor audios. I've been wanting to check them out but I would like to know if they are any good.

The Edge of Destruction is nice, but let's be honest its more or less a glorified extra compared to the other episodes in that set :p

I've not listened to them myself, but I've heard good things about them and the Eccleston one that's out next month has caught my eye. But to be honest all my hype has been going toward Light at the End recently, that is for sure going to be the quintessential 50th anniversary story for me.

I'd just like an Eighth Doctor Story.

Go to Big Finish's website and buy Lucie Miller and To the Death. Then listen to them, and go back and buy Dark Eyes.

Right I got some of classic who DVDs any way so the ones I got are the movie survival for 7th genesis of the daleks for 4th and the 5 doctor special

Man been watching the start of matt era and the even includes when tennant regenerated to him as well I am now on season 6 on net flix then be watching season 1 to 4 due to I watch 5 and I am also watching the three doctos special as well. Man I hope we get some off classic style generation for when matt changes capaldi cause I don't them to reuse the same one from 9th

So, I rewatched The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and Silence in the Library/Forest of the Damned. I haven't seen them in a while, due to scare factor. Both really brilliant episodes. It shows what Moffat can do if he really tries and gives us a coherent story, instead of... pretty much everything now.

Yeah, Moffat was brilliant when we got him doing self-contained stuff rather than series-long arcs. Kinda wish we can go back to those days.

Anyway, I started rewatching season 1 myself the other day since I haven't seen it in years (some episodes I havent even seen since they first aired). I forgot how much I love Rose. While it has its flaws, RTD really handled relaunching the series perfectly in the sense that it feels fresh for new audiences yet a lot of subtle nods to keep older fans happy.

From a personal perspective, it was really weird to see parts of Cardiff again that have since been knocked down and rennovated :lol

Does any one miss the day of when the seris ended the last episode nodded what the Xmas was cause that person who rung the doctor at the end of season 5 or 6 was a miss opportunity

Ant it time for some other classic who villains to appear

I'd like to see some more classic monsters, but I don't know if one that's only ever appeared in one story could carry a Christmas special. Not so much in terms of story, but because that's the one time the BBC are fighting for the ratings top spot more than ever. Plus since it's going to be Matt's leaving story, I guess they want a monster that can carry a level of threat in the build up to it. The average viewer isn't going to view something like a Zarbi (my god I'd love to see them come back) or a Quark as a big deal.

How many "recurring" classic villains are there left to cover anyway? We've had Daleks, Cybermen, Autons, Ice Warriors, the Great Intelligence (which rules out Yeti for now I guess) Sontarans, Silurians and the Master...the only ones that spring to mind are the Rani (yeah, no thanks), Sil and Sea Devils.

I think it was bold for them to use the Zygons for the 50th anniversary despite, being firm fan favourites, having only appeared in one story. But I guess that boldness is offset by the fact the episode will also have Daleks in it.
