Hmmm. My painting skills are kinda not great, I have been toying with getting some painters tape to mask off parts, so i can at least paint in straight lines. And at least it's cast in white, and not making me paint white on top of gunmetal gray, like the stupid HG Hi-Nu. His weapons are going to look like crap when I'm done with them, unless I try and clean off what I've done and get some spray paint and tape off what i don't want white. Bugger what a freaking pain.
It makes me want to get the MG just because the weapons are cast in multiple parts, and the white ones are done in white plastic. |

I just find the Nu Gundam to be to plain of a deco. i like the blue on the Hi-Nu.

Too little blue? It's almost half blue. How is that too little? Nu is white with like one splash of black paint on the funnels. From certain angles, Hi-Nu looks mostly blue

You know if you don't want the white and blue Hi-Nu and don't care about grade, there is a black/yellow/white one for HG.
Also I'm getting closer and closer to my decision for what models I'm going to order for my birthday. One for certain is the HG GM Striker. All I can think of is that someone wanted to make a mass production Deathscythe model and thats where the striker came from.lol The other I'm on the fence about.Either the HG Sinanju,or two cheap suits. There are some good grunt suits out there, and I am lacking in the grunt department. |
dalong.net is a dangerous place. I've been perusing the site and have come to the conclusion that I want the regular HG versions of Unicorn and Banshee (and the various modes), and additionally I want the various pearl/clear versions as well.
They seem like really great designs to me, and look particularly well executed in the special versions. |

I actually think I decided on the Sinanju and HG Bawoo Production type.I figure the Bawoo is from Neo Zeon,so yeah.
|
I love me some Neo Zeon. Can't speak for the Bawoo, however, you won't regret the Sinanju. It was a fun build and looks great paired with the Unicorn.

If anybody wants the Bawoo I built I'm gonna offload it, I posted about it over in the TFW Gundam thread too but heads up to all here as well.

Now that i've seen photos of the Pteraraidenoh candy kit…I can now set into motion plans on making this guy:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/4797/jd3s.jpg Into this guy: http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/6571/2f4r.jpg Plan on using parts from the Kabaya GaoGaiGar to make the lion chest and Exia's GN Sword for the weapon. |
So,quick opinion.This suit...
http://www.gundamplanet.com/media/ca...Striker_01.jpg These colors.... http://www.gundamplanet.com/media/ca...-custom-01.jpg Gonna call it the GM Striker (SWAT Custom) |
http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/597/0olm.jpg
So the Phoenix Pack is pretty much the Akatsuki Earth use pack with a bunch missiles and a sword slapped on? |
So I've decided to get the GM Striker just cause I have a nice custom in mind. The other suit,I'm still on edge about.
Edit:Did decide on another part of the purchase, the Builder's Parts weapon system 003.Also thinking the Hazel II. |

He also needs some panel lining to make all that red less, um, red. http://i1276.photobucket.com/albums/...ps95c7fb06.jpg |

The Sinanju was a hard buy to pass up,but I really wna make that custom GM Striker.I might even kitbash a gundam and make it a special gundam unit. The picture here is of the weapon kit.I plan on giving the Custom I make the claw shield and the Beam SMG w/ grenade launcher.I'm also going to try and find a way for him to store the spear on his backpack. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p2_NsTI794.../weapon003.jpg |
Man, you guys seem like great modelers, I can't paint for crap. Since I can't do it, I have been forcing myself to stay away from GunPla since they just don't seem that good looking without paint. Dalong has shown me otherwise on some kits but good lord do I just need to learn how to paint...hahaha

It's not about painting,it's about the feeling you get when you can stand back and go "Wow,I built that." This'll be my first time doing a custom paint job,so it prob wont turn out that good.

I dont' paint too well either. I've been using some gundam markers, but like i said regarding Hi-Nu's gun, it's come out crap. Painting the eyes, or a few highlights hasn't been too bad, especially when theirs molding lines to follow.
Same with panel lining, just trace the lines with the panel line marker and wipe off the stuff that gets where I don't want it with my finger, it comes right off. The only problem is in tight corners or places I can't get my fingers, and I've been using a toothpick to clean up those places, and it's been working nicely. |
I've been using spray cans. But lately, I've been thinking about investing in an airbrush set up once the convention season is over.
|
Well that makes sense. I build zoid models because of the absolutely no need to paint hahaha, same cannot be said for their HMM line though, but I do panel line those models and they come out great. Oh, and for reference, the HMM zoid kits are somewhere between MG and PG gunpla models. So I know what you mean about the accomplishment you feel when sitting back and looking at it.

My first HMM was a command wolf, the red one. Plastic quality feels different to the touch, but still as strong as Bandai's kits. I picked up a geno saurer when they re released a year ago.
On decals, panel lining, and paint; man I wish I could do stuff like the pros. I kind of like the GFF look. But that's the wonderful thing about models, right? |
Believe it or not Hobbylink Japan has a youtube page that has some tips on painting models. They give really good tips.(Like I didnt know that it's best to wash the runners before even starting)

This week's episode has a short video on assembling the MG Tallgeese from start to finish, with minimal advanced techniques.

I've been thinking, would anybody be down for a tokunation group build?

We basically pick a theme for the build and the builds all need to be finished and presented by a certain time and date. |
