Don't know if it has been mentioned here, but dukemon22 of Rangerboard says that's Tsutomu Sekine, who's apparently a fairly large name in Japan. He is nicknamed the "Jay Leno of Japan".

Yeah he's apparently a huge drama actor in Japan. So maybe him coming down to the toku level is what prompted the mystery. But still, I was expecting some crazy robot conductor type guy.

I was hoping hard for Owner. Hopefully there's a huge Den-O/Tokkyuger crossover in the work. I mean there almost has to be right?

Listened to the theme song all day and I absolutely love it.

Coming down to toku level? Toku, like local heroes I suppose, is very well loved in Japan (or so I hear). Over here if you star in PR, you'll probably never work again bar the convention circuit, over there it propels you to stardom. It's a right of passage. Considering so many people have grown up with sentai over the years.

I mean sure it's a kid's show, but I bet he loves it.

Say what you will. But I most certainly meant down to toku level. Ratings for tokusatsu are a mere fraction of what dramas get, and they steadily decline every year. You don't get nearly the same level of exposure as a toku actor as you would for dramas. This man has a staggering career doing TV drama, so yes he is coming down to the toku level by doing this.

I'm not saying he doesn't want to do it, of course he does or he wouldn't be there. But that's a step down from the usual stuff he does.

From all the news, how many Resshas do we know about?

And I'm now considering passing on the Tokkyuger stuff until Spada reviews it.

Through the Toy scans we know about 10 Resshas right now.

Don't know about you guys, but I'm pretty hooked on the ToQger theme. It's such a catchy song, I've got it on repeat.

I'm actually getting more and more convinced by this show. The theme is GREAT. And the lack of detail or extra pieces on the suits allows some really dynamic poses and movement, which would perhaps be otherwise limited by big shoulderpads or extra bits of armour and stuff they normally add to sentai suits. I still don't really know if I like them but seeing One in his pose up there, fighting that monster and all the other quirky little poses in the scans, I dig it a lot. I also really like the like the look of the weapons as well.

The only downside is...wow this all looks really...cheap, huh? The morpher and the weapons look so plastic they could easily be off the shelf roleplay toys, if this was Saban I'd suggest there were. And although I don't hate the giant robos design, he looks like an action figure that turns into a bunch of toy trains. Awful.

I am so glad they are using miniatures and not some cg models that look like they were lifted out of a videogame.

I've no doubt the CGI stuff will show up at some point, but like they said in the Talkin' Toku podcast, miniature work seems to be coming back, along with live sets. It really started with Go-busters.

Yup probably during some finisher for the giant robot.

But so far everything we saw was pure miniatures and I am absolutely in love with that.

As long as they limit the CGI on the mecha themselves, I'm fine. I realize it is necessary sometimes, but occasionally they go overboard and it's not that convincing. :lol

I really dunno how I feel about either, to be honest with you. On the miniature side, I just find it usually looks so bad it completely breaks the illusion, there really doesn't feel like there's been any advancement in like fifteen years. I mean surely there must be something they can do to make it feel more like a real city?

Like at least in shows like Mikazuki they intersperse sequences from the ground level, utilising extras and stuff, so you at least have some sense of it taking place in our dimension, and not some weird cardboard dimension where cities have absolutely no people, and are completely devoid of any sound either.

But then on the other hand, toku CGI...has a long, long way to go and usually when they switch over to CGI stuff, it looks absolutely terrible and I find myself longing for toy cars and cardboard buildings again.

Of course things like Suika Arms in gaim wouldnt be possible without CG or the way the Denliner moved in Den-O.

But in Sentai there is no excuse most of the time not to use miniatures. The Robots mostly do nothing when they are not combined so they dont really have to be cg.

Go-Busters had some excellent sense of scale to it's miniatures and mecha suits. It really was a fantastic revitalizing of miniatures. The Ressha look simply amazing and while I know the gattai will be CG for the most part I'm still excited to see it.

Gokaiger really went nuts with the CGI, a lot of it unnecessary. I think some mecha didn't even have miniatures.

Go-busters really was a new standard. I think they also started filming outside, to give the set a more natural lighting?

And who knows, the gattai may be simple enough to actually work with miniatures! :lol

That shot of ToQOh still using the rails is amazing. I don't think I could be any more hyped for this show right now.

Go-Busters had one of if not the best Giant robot scenes I have ever seen in Super Sentai.

I was so happy when Gabutyra in Kyoryuger was done through suit acting but disappointed that he was the only one.

ToQger so far looks like it takes some inspiration from Go-Busters on that level and I hope it will look as awesome as think it will.

Given the gameshow cockpit, I'm assuming a lot of the stuff that made the Go-Busters giant stuff great wont be included. Still here's hoping for more truely giant robot designs (rather than the magic golem stuff of other shows), and more naturalistic giant robot movement, with greater focus on the individual power rather than rushing to pile as many toys into one toy as they can.

The new ToQger promo is doing its best to get me hyped :lol

He looks like Shunpei and is already an annoying character from that one scene in the preview. I am going to hate that guy as he is going to get on my nerves, I just know it.

If anything he'll annoy you now just 'cause you have you mind set on disliking him :p

Maybe it's because I've been spending so much time looking at the show and its cast on Tumblr, but they've really started to grow on me.

Yeah I can't believe I didn't figure out til this promo that the ToQ Oh's sword is a gun too. I knew it folded down but I assumed that was to replicate like a train play set and it was meant to act like a crossing guard coming down as a train passes :lol
