This is probably too pedantic for anyone but me to care about, but having temporarily defected from Genm Corp to TV-Nihon to keep up on Saber, I've now seen two different sub groups miss out on the opportunity to translate Yuri's uses of the word saikou as "brilliant", which bums me out, because I'm convinced that's the one and only most prodigiously wonderful way to render those lines to reflect how they're meant to be playing off of his name.

Like, obviously it can't be 1:1, but I seriously think that's about as perfect an option as could be. It still means "thing that is notably good" while also matching the his light motif. It is both 最高 and 最光 in one English word!

(In possibly related news, I also just can't help myself from needlessly nitpicking fan subs, apparently!)

Of, don’t even get me started on what the hell KuwagaRaiger’s roll call translates as. Almost everyone translates it as “the Azure Thunderclap”, but that would be “Konpeki no Jinrai” and the phrase he states is “Sōten no Hekireki” (from what I’ve found, the first word doesn’t translate to anything, while the second word translates as “haze”)

Gonna have to check back on previous episodes, but I THINK Izusubs translated it to brilliant. Which episodes was it that Yuri says that?

The true star of Den-o was Shiratori Yuriko's lipgloss.

Of all the "What If?" versions of Kamen Rider shows out there, I think the one I'd be most interested in seeing (after the obvious one, of course) is the version of Den-O where she didn't leave. Either that or Aikawa's back half of Decade.

Standard disclaimer for the original ending of Hibiki aside, I agree! I really liked Hana as a character, I found her really warm and relatable in a way that a lot of token not-quite-a-love-interest female characters are in the series, and although I don't have an especial problem with Kohana, I didn't really enjoy Den-o half as much after Shiratori's departure.

Yeah, the dumpster fire of an agency that mismanaged her career at the time is a place called A-Team. Hideaki Ito who plays Kamen Rider Eden in the Zero-One movie is one of their top billing actors currently and Yuji Kido who played Ayase/Time Blue in Timeranger is still there. Ryo Yokoyama who was Sakuya/Patren 2 from LuPat was there till last year but seems to have transferred to a new agency. Hopefully in the case of Yokoyama it was end-of-contract stuff and I hope management is different there now cause it was 14 years ago after all. If not, to hell with that agency for messing around with the show and her career. Apparently they made her film Den-O AND do other stuff as well to "further boost her popularity" it seems, which again is a bad move. I guess the party involved with scheduling had no concept of fatigue at all.
At the end the Kohana stuff didn't bother me at all, cause who knows, could have been worse. But yeah, it was unfortunate.

This is sadly pretty standard idol stuff. I won't go into a lengthy discussion on my feelings about the idol industry, and in the mental gymnastics it takes to participate in support of idols whilst knowing that the industry is horrid and incredibly damaging to young girls, but such a story as this is sadly very familiar.

No, I'm aware. It's that in the case of Shiratori it was taken up a notch from the usual expected workload for a new entertainer in Japan. They BOGGED HER DOWN with a ton of work on the side it seems. They pretty much were doing the equivalent of using a blowtorch to light a candle cause matches and lighters don't cut it.

The Ranger shows are episodic with a yearly series end game objective.

I'm the same. This literally came on random as I was playing stuff just now, and I properly teared up and became suddenly very emotional about it all. Gosh, I know it's so silly to be so attached, but I adore this show so much.

Love the Hibiki theme. I went and picked up the CD just to have it because the song is so beautiful. It's pretty much permanently sitting in my CD player, even though I don't use it.

I think what's hilarious to me about this one is how when they show Vulcan and Valkyrie you just see the two bullying Saber.

I also like how our villain is like, straight up Benkei stealing rider swords in this event.

Weirdly enough, I'm on the other end. Maybe because I don't like the visuals, but Hibiki is the only one I skip in the Heisei OP collection.

I brought a copy too at the time out of the exact same reasons. It really means so much to me.

Hahah, honestly, I don't hold it against you, everyone has different opinions, yet for me, despite not initially intended as a Kamen Rider show, the story seems to evoke many of the qualities I most associate with what a Rider show should be—in fact, again in my opinion, I feel it does this to a far greater degree than many of its Heisei era peers.

After listening to it without the on screen opening, I like it a bit more, so I guess it's really the opening clip I don't care for.

Never watched the show, though. It's never really caught my attention, I guess.

I have a soft spot for that dramatic sort of ballad, and the heartfelt-staring-into-the-sun-teat-in-the-eye sort of moment such evokes. I won't, of course, tell you to watch Hibiki if you have no inclination to do so, as I think it's something you have to approach on your own terms, being a very different animal to other shows of its ilk. I will, however, look into the aforementioned sun with a tear in my eye, and tell you that I love it. :p

I didn't care much for the Hibiki opening theme until I started watching the series, and it really really grew on me. The title sequence itself might not be something to write home about, but the music itself perfectly encapsulated those early episodes. I loved when they would remix the music with guitars or horns depending on who the focus of the episode was. Variety and individuality in openings is always appreciated

Speaking of Hibiki's openings. Always did enjoy the instrumental nature of the first one, gave it a nice flare.

Hibiki's second opening though, my least favorite OP in all of Heisei Rider. I just cannot stand any of it.

I like it! I like EVERY toku opening and ending I've listened to actually; there's not been a single one I've actively disliked so far.

The issue with Hibiki OP 2 is just... well, it's not really Hibiki. Same issue with almost everything in that back half.

I'm smiling at the way this thread has evolved, as I genuinely couldn't remember what Hibiki "Season 2" (episode #30 onwards) did with the opening, and everyone seems to be complaining about Shounen Yo! by Fuse Akira, which was originally the end theme, and, ah, well, that's what I linked to, that's what I was talking of as the main theme, as that was what came out as a CD single at the time. :p

Then I'll be the odd one out! Hibiki's second OP is WAY better than the first!

I have no idea what Hibiki's second OP sounds like, unless it's Shonen Yo, which I actually like quite a lot.
