there's Decade too |
You know the stickers are going suck when the professional builders can't get it on perfectly.
|
idk if the bandaihobby blog ppl is a professional builder or not, but, to me, the stickers looks fine.
i know Hibiki's visor thing always looks like that, but... it looks weird here, the purple of the visor thing and the purple of the body doesn't blends really well |
I've been trying to use as much paont/markers as possible and avoid stickers, but the color gradient on the arms is something that would be super hard to do without the sticker. Most of the other stuff seems easily paint able. I like how glossy the suit is already. I bought some color shift paint a few months ago anticipating a meh paint job out of the box, but it really looks good as is.

That’s not a lot of stickers, wow! Boxart is lovely too.
|
Matte on his loincloth, candy red on his, well, red, and then silver for his chest armor and he's gonna look fiire. (get it?)
|
Yeah achieving the gradient on his arms is doable with an airbrush, but that area is very small. I doubt there's much they could've done with the face/visor.
Either way, this kit looks amazing and I cannot wait. I have it preordered from Nin Nin Game so hopefully I get it close to release date (my first order from them). |

I've only had mixed to bad experiences with Amiami in the past so I try to avoid them when I can. That being said, COVID is still impacting shipment from Japan > USA so who knows. So far I like that Nin Nin charges clear shipping right up front, even though I'm not sure how they can do that. FRS Hibiki shipping was $12.50 |

this is how Hibiki will looks if it painted properly (i mean, not the main maziora color, but the yellow demon head thing on his head, the silver chest armor, the belt, etc) btw, is the Ongekiko removable? let's hope so |

...However ordering in stock items will make you wait like hell, still waiting on an order I placed 2 weeks ago to ship despite paying for FedEx. |
I'm too excited for this one, and a little bit too maniac(?), anyway, here's more pic of Hibiki

I bought some Testor's color shift paint back when Hibiki was announced because I was sure the body color was going to be off. So far it looks good in the videos, but just like these pictures, I feel like it's not done justice until you see it in person. If the color isn't up to your expectations, this paint does a great job matching up with the Medicom Hibiki figure. Hopefully I won't have to use this paint and I'll just be touching up the silver and gold parts, but just thought someone might find the brand and pictures of this paint useful. I'll try to get a comparison on the sprues when I get the kit on Tuesday.

Okay my FRS Hibiki just came in the mail today!
https://i.imgur.com/2p2fg7h.jpg Let me know if anyone wants pictures or notes on something before I assemble it. I gotta say, Nin Nin Game was definitely a good experience. I believe Hibiki was released on the 17th, so I got it just 4 days later. Japan is still experiencing shipping delays so NNG upgraded my shipping to DHL at no extra charge. I paid $12 for shipping. Total cost for Hibiki was $38 USD. It's really nice that the shipping charge is shown up front when you buy from them. |
That's very impressive, wow!! I really gotta consider that...
Picture anything you find interesting during construction; I'm really excited to see how this kit turns out! |

Just finished my kit with some paint and wanted to share it before heading to bed. The kit is probably the best build yet... But it still has a couple of things to complain about. The joints are plain purple instead of the color shift, so I ended up painting those to blend in a little better. The other thing is that the arms connect weird at the elbows. It's a peg so it ended up popping out a couple of times while hitting some quick poses.
As far as painting besides the joints, I changed the whitish gray parts to silver, darkened the red, colored brown in the wrists and ankles used a better gold on the yellow/gold parts, and filled in details. Haven't played around with it much after completing it other than snapping a couple quick pics, but I'll try to answer any questions anyone has as well. |
Dang, that looks great! Good work!
|
What did you use to paint the joints?

I think the best view you can get of a joint is in the picture of the side view of Hibiki's leg that I posted. It's tough to get an accurate picture with the shift. |
I just finished FRS Hibiki. My initial thoughts of the build is that it is painful! But not like difficult, like literally hurts. He has a lot of spiky and sharp points and the molding is very clean.
https://i.imgur.com/zpsPLpK.jpg The specially treated plastic that composes his main body is stiffer and more brittle than your average model kit. If you use a hobby knife to clean up nubs, I recommend using this opportunity to swap in a brand new blade. I go over more details of the process in my build thread http://www.tokunation.com/showpost.p...5&postcount=71 Obligatory all rider shot: https://i.imgur.com/JwqDrER.jpg Hibiki is a fantastic kit, but the heavy organic elements may make him more challenging than you're used to. The level of precise detail painting is far above average if you're trying to minimize stickers. Den-O is perhaps still the best kit overall. From some angles, Hibiki feels a little disproportionate (namely his chest and thighs). But the finished product is absolutely gorgeous and he stands out from his peers in a big way due to his unique coating. |
Nice paint job! The belt buckle looks so clean and you did an awesome job with the gradient. Those are two places I'm still trying to clean up a little bit. Using marker on the individual chest pieces sounds like a huge pain in the butt, but it must have been nice for cleaning up the teeth when painting the in-between parts. Thanks for the rundown on how you did it. I'll be trading in my brown fine tip sharpie for a brown Gundam panel liner for fixing things up. Good work!

hmm, I have an interesting idea if Bandai wanted to rob series completionists of their money. What if they released the level suit from Ex-aid with interchangeable faceplates and chestplates for Ex-Aid, Brave, Snipe, Lazer and Genm?

These guys have Amazing Mighty Kuuga for sale in the UK. |
That's a very good price considering what their others are at.

Finished up Hibiki the other night as well... Kuuga I finished last night.
I'm honestly surprised at Kuuga. Hibiki had what I figured he would, but Kuuga I put off, until my local hobby shop had him in, and I thought, what the hell... Honestly, I've never been the biggest fan of Kuuga, but this build has put him way up on my list of favorite suits. Simplistic, but yet supremely detailed. https://i.imgur.com/O83fXryl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/bz757Kjl.jpg |
Amazing!! I love your backdrops!
|
Thank you!
I just simply print them out. Since I work for a place I can do that, makes it easier lol! I try to use a lot of "realistic" textures too. But those don't always work. |
The shrubs are nice. The lighting also looks great.

I know wishlisting is half of the thread at this point but I think I would really really like to see the rest of Den-O's initial forms for a form change gimmick. Seihou SHF is doing that, sure; but that's very expensive and from what I've heard absolutely terrifying. FRS Den-O on the other hand is very very simple just from Plat and Sword alone, and on the off-chance that you would break something (and I really don't know how you would), at least it'd just be a couple of ~£20 kits. With Seihou if you've broken that you've broken a very expensive collector's figure, even if it's not difficult to find at retail price secondhand (seriously huh? Of all Seihous to not be expensive? I thought Den-O was ungodly popular???).
Since W done all its main forms - at retail no less - and it's popular I just hope they do the same for Den-O. If they don't though, I'm still very very happy that they ended up doing Plat Form in addition to Sword and it's a lot more than they needed to do for a satisfying kit. Very appreciated extra mile either way |
S.H.Figuarts vs Figure-rise Standard
1 Attachment(s)
Here is a comparison between SHF and figure-rise Hibiki. I prefer the shoulder to chest proportions on the figure-rise. SHF has nicer forearms and belt.
|
Is it possible to seal the stickers on Figure-Rise's using normal mod podge?
