I just like Ninninger for being a fun Sentai.
it's not meant to make you question life lessons and teach you things. it simply wants you to take a load off and have fun. they're ninjas that are going wild! what are you expecting? plus, i like how we've also got other characters using the super form, and I lso love the subtle family aspect, which is something you rarely get to see in Sentai. and I also love the nods to other Ninja of Toei's live-action past. Hell, was anyone actually expecting THAT version of Jiraiya? |
As one of the people who isn't liking Ninninger all that much (don't get me wrong, for what it is, it's enjoyable), I'm going to place my dissatisfaction with the show with what I feel is wasted potential. As has been said, the overall plot didn't kick in until the 30's, but even now it feels like it paused for a few episodes, just to pick back up again (see Jiraiya and the one where a Youkai falls for Yakumo). But there could have been lots of things built up. The three western Youkai- they could have been major villains, serving to hand the team their asses, especially coming in at around episode 25 or so... or they could each die in a single episode. Kinji being a werewolf isn't mentioned at all outside of the episode where it happens, and then when it takes off fully- nothing builds to it, despite the character building that could have happened if someone, say Nagi, learned about it. Him and Kinji having to deal with it, Kinji becoming more and more out of control, until he snaps, forcing them to take him out. But no, it comes up once, and it'll be gone by next episode or so. The villains also do nothing, and are so bland, I think one of them could die and I'd think the ninjas had just killed a MOTW.
And the Last Ninja plot. It keeps being built up to, with the ultimate shuriken. But what actually is it? We don't know. How will it help defeat the bad guys? We don't know. Why does Kyuemon want the shuriken? Something something ultimate power (Although, credit is due for making Kyuemon legitimately interesting character... unless his entire motive turns out to be power). Why are they the 'last' ninja? Do all the others have to sacrifice their powers to power it? We don't know. I don't know if I just expected too much, but the series does feel like it could have been great, but there was a lot of wasted potential, and it never really recovered. |
yeah, they're not gonna get rid of Starninger, or hell, Kinji in general. he's way too popular.
again, my theory of the Last Ninja is "the last line of defense ninja". the ninja you call when nobody else can get the job done. and they mentioned that the end shuriken is the one that sealed away Kibaoni, and whoever can retrieve it proves they are worthy of becoming the Last Ninja. they said it in the earlier episodes. |
I am liking Ninninger, but I also love ninjas in general.
But the show is fun. From the opening scene of the first episode until now, it has always been fun first. The creator of the mechs got bored with the same themes (honestly, if it was just another animal themed mech lineup, there would be complaints there also) so why not reference it all? I like the controlled chaos the show offers. Takaharu gets on my nerves, but I think the other rangers are subdued enough that nicely rounds out the team. The family dynamic is subtle, but there (they are cousins mostly, so the hierarchy like we got in Magiranger with them being siblings isn't overbearing). Grandpa is playing a pretty good distant mentor role and the dad makes me laugh. I know folks are expecting way more out of the show, but honestly, the toys are fun (my daughter plays with my/her ichibantou everyday and loves spinning the shurikens), and it is bright, loud, and fast. I am enjoying it and can respect how others aren't, even if I don't completely understand it. |

I'll admit that I like Ninninger.
It isn't my favourite of the Japanese-motifed Sentai―that "honour" likely goes to Shinkenger―but I don't dislike it. I like Ninnin for what it is; an average but fun installment. (^_^) |

Why don't he more female leaders ?
|
I wonder that as well. I enjoyed Ninja White as the leader and most rational of the bunch and the same for Time Pink. I would like to see another female leader on a future team. Even if red is the field leader.

How would look like a new Bird-themed sentai ?
