So thirteen years worth of training and the Go-Busters cant even catch a normal criminal? They either were extremely lucky up to this point or Vagrass is alot weaker than we initially thought :lol

Can people tell me how they got through Zyuranger?

By having a lot of perseverance.

Is it that bad?

I actually thought it was a pretty enjoyable show.

When it's focused on the actual story, it's a pretty nice show. But when it's not it falls into child of the week territory which gets pretty boring. Filler is something expected, but filler can be exciting and fun to watch. Zyu's filler is just boring and almost tedious especially because it comes in waves after getting a good few story based episodes. It's a case to where I'd suggest just watching the story based episodes and then leave it at that.

I quite enjoyed Zyuranger but I admit that the story is not its strong point. I mostly enjoyed that show because of tis atmosphere. Its a modern fairytale and thats how it wants to be watched and not as a deeply plotted or character heavy show.

Just finished my second run on Go-Busters and my opinion hasnt really changed. Its still a pretty cool show but far from being one of my favorites. The only thing that changed is that I like the first fifteen or so episodes even more than the first time around :lol

Because it is an awesome show. Has a great cast of villains. A great cast of rangers (even if half of them are majorly under developed). Has great costumes and and sets. The monsters of the week are incredible and are mythology based. The stories are fun and enjoyable. The show does a great job balancing comedy and seriousness (something current Sentai has forgotten how to do). Plus, the music is fantastic.

If you want a more story driven show, watch DaiRanger, KakuRanger, or GekiRanger. ZyuRanger is in my top 10 favorite Sentai series, but it is probably # 9 or 10.

Fun fact: I think the Zyuranger Theme sounds like the Amy Grant song "El Shaddai."

One of the things I disliked about Zyuranger was that the one of six villains never get killed or something like that. They all survived from the start to the end and the only solution how to defeat them was to put them back in the moon like in the first place... and I thought after I watched the show that how strong was Zyuranger at all??
Yeah I know they beated the satan, but anyway:)

Watched Ohranger episode 3 and 4, and it is a really dark show in the beginning very serious themes with kidnapping children, and a cop almost trying to shoot himself. The action in this series is totally badass, they each fight with their own fighting style and they all hit hard it's awesome. Though in the first 4 episodes you really only get a grasp on Goro's character, OhRed, while the others are just background characters. Goro feels like a Showa Era Rider which is a cool thing. Baranoia are really dark villains so far, My friends and I will probably watch the 5th subbed episode and hope that new subs come out soon.

Yet other series manage to do it better. Saying "oh but that's the way it is" doesn't give something an automatic pass.

Two thirds of the cast were completely forgettable (as I constantly say, Dragon Caesar had more emotional impact on me than any hero that wasn't Burai or Geki), the relentless child of the week episodes were mostly awful (and I've seen Amazon, so I know constant child of the week episodes can be done better) and coming out of it only a handful of episodes really contributed to the plot.

It looked fantastic, but it was a slow and mostly forgettable show for me.

Except that is not true. Episodes 1-6, 9-10, 17-22, 28-32, 40-42, and 47-50 all deal with the plot of the show. That is 26 episodes, more than half of the show are plot related episodes.

So could I just watch those episodes of Zyuranger, and be fine?

Pretty much. To be honest I would say only watch those episodes and just stop with Zyuranger there.

Ah well that might help me get through the series then. Not that I don't like it, but I watch it with friends who don't really like it as much as I do.

I still haven't started Zyu, but that's rather disappointing that only 26 out of 50 episodes are relevant to the plot.

That's actually better than a lot of Sentai, especially from that era. Zyuranger was considered a very story heavy show during its time.

Despite the perceived blandness of the show, I had a lot of fun with it. It was an imaginative show when it came to how it implemented its themes. Even the episodes that don't contribute to the story as a whole do a fantastic job of integrating some sort of fantasy or religious imagery and mythos into the plot of the day.

And if you look hard enough, there's some pretty cool subtle stuff there to enjoy. I mean, freaking Clotho is an obvious expy for the writer of the series itself. If all you're looking for is story-story-story, then it's probably not the series for you, but the show does such a good job with theme integration that it's a shame to skip any episode. I'll never think the main characters are the show's strong point, but Zyuranger is a beautifully directed show that more than makes up for its lack of cast presence. (and one of the only Sentai to do so)

ToQGer Episode 1: Since I got into ToQGer with episode 17 yesterday I am going back to watch the first episode. I absolutely loved it a lot. Right is so silly and awesome, in a way similar to King but also different than King. Tokatti I relate to so much with being the clumsy one and falling out of the train in the beginning. Kagura is so much fun! She is so silly and awesome with her imagination. Mio is pretty cool right now too, ToQ 4 I'm forgetting his name is the least interesting to me right now, but that might be because I'm biased from the last and greatest Green Ranger (I wonder why I'd say something like that lol.) I'm going to catch up with the rest of the series soon now. The Shadow line are pretty interesting but I know they are better when Zed comes.

How so? That is normal for any year long series. In fact, some series, like SHinkenger, have less than that. Hell, Go-Buster had only about 15 episodes that dealt with the plot. It is the same way with Kamen Rider. OUt of Black's 51 episodes only 17 have anything to do with its plot. Wizard only had a plot in about 12 episodes of its 51. Most GUndam series are the same way too. Sailor Moon's original anime only had about 16 episodes in its 46 run that were plot. That's just the way it is in Japan as that is what happens when a show is required to be 50ish episodes. Hell, in the five episodes I watched to ToQ, only the first one had anything to do with a plot. The rest were just filler.

That doesn't spontaneously make it acceptable.

Locke would agree with you on that with a page of text stating how western shows, which mostly come with fear of cancellation, do it better.

Well it's more about the journey than the destination. I don't care if Black and ToQGer are filler, hell some of the filler episodes are fucking awesome. Especially in something like Dragon Ball Z.

I'm still enjoying Black and ToQGer right now and can't wait for more.

If I enjoy the fillers, as I did for example in Goseiger or Toqger, I'm totally fine with them. Long series without filler are pretty exhausting to watch anyway.

Yeah I think filler can be done well - GARO is a franchise practically built on standalone episodes but it works because GARO makes them so memorable. For every GARO, though, there is a show like Kyoryuger where you can skip like thirty episodes and get a better show for it.

I think that depends on your personal tastes. I liked the fillers in Kyoryuger too.

Yes it does, because that is Japanese culture. That is how they do series. How many American TV shows even have a main plot? Not many. DC shows not withstanding, 90% of American shows aimed at kids are just random episodes with no over bearing story arc, especially in this day and age. Gone are the days of story driven shows like Gargoyles and Beast Wars and now is the era for random nonsense like Adventure Time and Regular SHow.

Adventure Time actually has a plot (The Lich and the destruction of Earth) it's just filled with a lot of filler because it's a kid's show. Same with Regular Show, they are cartoons, every new episode is a new story. Kids don't care about a good story now a days, they just care about downloading 200 games for their iPads and building shit in Minecraft.

Yeah, there may be a load of random nonsense in Adventure Time but there's quite a lot of continuity too.

To get back to topic... finished Megaranger just about half an hour ago. The show sure had it's weakpoints, but overall, I liked it a lot. The characters were great and the designs and music were totally awesome. The finale was really exciting and touching- it's been a while since a Sentai finale touched me like that. ^^

How is that any different then what the Japanese do then?

That's because these networks are looking at kids like they are dumb and treating them as such. Kids don't care about good stories? Then why are they reading Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, etc? Companies are telling them they don't want good stories so they aren't giving them good stories. Yes, there are a lot of kids that just want mindless destruction, but that is because that is what society is dictating for them. Kids are turning to games like Minecraft because nothing is challenging their brain to think. Everything is being spoon fed to them as if they were stupid.

I just find American Filler more entertaining than Japanese filler.

Also I don't really mind shows that have like no plot these days. If kids want stories then they can go and read some books.

I don't care about filler as long as it is good. Gargoyles has amazing filler. Some Sentai filler is good, some is bad. The majority of Zyu's filler is enjoyable, but there are a chunk of episodes right in the teens where it isn't. The Genie one comes to mind. However, 2-3 bad filler episodes does not make an entire show bad. If you aren't enjoying the show though, you don't have to continue.

Hell, I gave up on ToQ after 5 episodes, Gosei after 9 (three times in a row), and Dynaman after 10. That to me qualifies them as the worst Sentai series ever. If someone cannot make it past the first 10 episodes of Zyu, they shouldn't force themselves to do so. I love Zyu, and I think people are crazy for not liking it, but they probably think I am crazy for not liking ToQ and Gosei. I know I argue with Locke all of the time, but we both have entirely different tastes as the series he loves, I hate. The series he hates, I love. I wouldn't expect him to like Kamen Rider Black either as Black is in my top 5 favorite KR shows of all time.

Nevertheless though, kids should be able to get good stories out of cartoons just as much as books. Not everyone reads well, and when someone does not read well, they try to avoid reading. As much as we don't want to acknowledge that, it is the fact. I know parents who were upset that their child only wanted to read comics even though that meant they were still reading. The parents did not see it that way though, which is a shame as THEY ARE STILL READING!! Regardess, a cartoon should still be balanced between strong stories with strong character development and filler.

If lots of kids were reading the series you mention then companies would focus more on story than in mindless action and explosions but it seems that is not the case, just look at Power Rangers (their toys still sell and the shows have a lot of attention, so no need to change) another problem is that companies don't want to take risks so they keep broadcasting the same shit over and over again.You must also keep in mind that the target audience of these shows is KIDS not tweens or teens that read Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Skulduggery Pleasant and other TEEN novels.

Kids are different. I started reading Harry Potter as a kid and kept on reading as a teen because it wasn't completely published when I was still a kid. But I also know many kids that didn't care for complex stories or didn't read at all. To say kids don't care for good stories these days is a generalization and wrong, because there are many kids that do. Besides, kids expect and want what they know, so if you give them the complex stuff from the beginning on, that'll be what they want later.

I didn't say all kids didn't like complex stories, it's just that they can't complain about it because that's the only thing that they are given, that is the problem.

Eri is by far the weakest Goseiger and her singing is fucking awful. If badly ADRed lalas is the music of heroes, sign me up for the Warstar. Although Agri and Moune really are massive assholes at the start, at least Eri seems like a nice - albeit excruciatingly irritating - person. Hyde and Alata are my favourites of the team by a country mile and they make it obvious why from the start.

As much as I actually don't mind Datas I hate his introduction of pure, contrived nonsense. Couldn't they give him a better origin story than just being there? It's so weird that everyone just goes along with it as well. Did they think no one would notice how stupid it is? I mean that is ignoring all of the finer details too, like not only does he just HAPPEN to be in the same observatory where the Gosei Angels are, but why does Master Head not ever mention him before this? And why is a guy playing rock music the reason he wakes up, wasn't the destroying of the Tower of Heaven a much bigger deal? I guess not...

There was a mixed bag of action this week, Brajira's introduction to the Goseiger is awesome and this is my favourite incarnation of him throughout the show so it's sad it's so short lived. The suit actors for the Goseiger have so much energy, personality and are so well choreographed, I love the fights even with the dull effects. And I love how, although still not exactly good, Goseiger feels like it actually puts effort into the giant stuff and isn't just going through the motions and phoning it in.

Is it really worth watching? I am about to finish Jetman and I am deciding on what to watch next.
