Man, every time Jiraiya starts speaking English I'm like "What?" for a moment until I remember that, yeah, he knows English (And had to have Japanese lessons) :lol
|
What I have in the Queue of Sentai:
Boukenger Gekiranger Goseiger Kyoryuger Toqger And I think Akibaranger both seasons. |
GaoRanger Episode 41: The Christmas Episode, and the org is was a brilliant actor and a huge jackass for tricking GaoRed into believing they wanted peace. Though GaoRed made up for it going all Kamen Rider Black RX on him (He said he could forgive the Org, one of Kotaro's most said lines.) Silver needed a break was cool after his awesome Blue Moon mode. I liked that they were giving out Presents at the end that was really nice of them. Intrigued to see what the next plan of Rasetsu is.

(Very slowly) Making my way through Kakuranger, I'm having a lot of fun with it. However, things seem to be slowly shifting towards the more serious side, and the characters aren't being raging idiots anymore. On the one hand, thank god, on the other, though, it really feels like only Sasuke and Jiraiya can actually fit this role. Saizou and Seikai's only traits seem to be their idiot tendencies, and Tsuruhime works best as a foil.
Still, I'm a little under halfway through, so I still have plenty of episodes to go~ |
GaoRanger Episode 42: Well damn Rasetsu is a cold-hearted jackass with sacrificing Tsuetsue like that and Dorodoro is just as evil tricking her into cutting off her horn. Dorodoro is a pretty awesome Ninja Org though, I definitely see him being a pain in the ass to the GaoRangers. I did love all 6 of them using the combined weapon together that was awesome. Tetom vs Tsuetsue was pretty awesome too. She had a great finale even if it was full of betrayal. I hope they can save Tetom.

ToQger (as it comes out) Gingaman (trying to get through the first batch before starting anything else) Ohranger (plan to start once I'm where I want in Gingaman) Megaranger (I started this, but realized I can't watch it without ending up on eBay looking for an Astro Megazord. I'll watch it when I'm ready to buy one or I'm never going to get through it). Also, I've decided to start buying Red Ranger Keys to the series I'm watching (If I don't have them). Just a fun way to build a collection slowly while watching. |
I had that same problem with Megaranger! :lol
I was looking for both a Megaship and the Mega Voyager. |

And yeah, I bet :lol |
GaoRanger 43: Rasetsu continues being a jackass, I miss Ura so much. The Shadow Rangers were pretty cool and a cheap ass fight Dorodoro was full of insanely cheap ninja moves. Though I love how he got defeated because Yabaiba reflected his technique and his own move defeated him. Loved that Tetom's prayer helped empower the Power Animals and created GaoCentaurus which is a totally awesome formation. Can't wait to see what happens next.
GaoRanger 44: Wow bugging GaoRed was a cheap ass move but it makes sense. I am so happy Rasetsu was defeated he was annoying, destroying the G-Phones and Gao Rock was insane I'm glad the Power Animals saved the day there. Gao Deers is pretty awesome with its healing powers. GaoCentaurus is totally badass and I love the attack name of Dance of the Beast King. I love GaoRed's rage in this episode it was great when he shows his passion, I love how they all get scenes and dialogue when they mention some of the big moments. I am wondering who the next villain is. GaoRanger 45: That was the best Clip show episode I've seen. Well along with having all the silly parts of trying to put Gao Rock back together, and the Yabaiba making GaoKing dance was hilarious it reminded me of Kyoryuger. Also them trying to Moonwalk and failing was hysterical. Also Gao Silver watching them dance from the outdoor bath was hilarious too. I love how Gao Silver basically beat Yabaiba with a tap from a bowl lol. I loved them singing the theme song Karaoke style at the end that was hilarious and great. I do feel bad for Yabaiba being alone right now. I also loved them trying to come up with all the different combinations for the Power Animals. I am intrigued to see what happens next. GaoRanger 46: Another fun episode with trying to find the Orgs' base. Yabaiba was surprisingly effective as a leader here, weird that he couldn't do that before. New Year's Org was fun with the games and the GaoRangers exploding. Always great to see Gao Silver's finisher and GaoHunter. I am intrigued to see what happens now and intrigued that we don't have another Highness Duke or Master Org yet but it will be interesting what happens. GaoRanger 47: Wow the final Org was pretty powerful. Yabaiba really was brilliant this episode going far lengths to attack the last org to help save Tsuetsue. I really loved GaoIcarus Another Foot and Arm lol the naming conventions are so fun in this. Still the combination of GaoFalcon, Bison, Hammerhead, and Wolf with the Ligator Blade was totally fucking badass. Probably my favorite combination because it combines some of my favorite parts of GaoIcarus, King, and Hunter together. Wow Shuten, Ura, and Rasetsu apparently coming back with Tsuetsue at the end definitely feels like something else at the end here. I can't wait 3 episodes left and I am excited. GaoRanger 48: I enjoyed seeing what the GaoRangers would do after winning the battle against the Orgs a bit somber though. Though I like seeing Gao White wanting to travel with Silver. I love Black and Blue's ideas. I wonder what Yellow will do though. I love Yellow telling Red he's become a good leader too. Ura, Shuten, and Rasetsu are just as deadly as I imagined they would be together they definitely bring the strength and fear main villains should. Tsuetsue has gone a bit nutty with her loyalty here and Yabaiba I think is second-guessing everything after the Org Master revelation. Can't wait for more. GaoRanger 49: I love the GaoRangers even more now going to fight against the Highnesses when they were beating up and then succeeding was totally brilliant. I really loved GaoRed in this because of his self-doubt as a leader then getting over it I loved. I loved Gao Blue inspiring Gao Black, Gao White inspiring Gao Silver, and Gao Yellow inspiring Gao Red and with that help Gao Black, Silver, and Yellow helped hold back each of the Highnesses for the barrier to be destroyed which was awesome. GaoGod and Tetom were ready to kick ass and that was awesome. Though Tsuetsue has definitely used her new powers to help out turning the the 3 of them into one ultra org now, I can't wait for next one. GaoRanger 50: Um wow...that was dark, melancholy, and utterly saddening to see all the Power Animals destroyed, Sky Island destroyed, and GaoGod destroyed...Senki is one hell of villain but combining the destructive power of Shuten, Ura, and Rasetsu would create one of the most powerful villains ever. I am really sad right now and teary eyed. Alright one more episode left, it's time to see how this wonderful series ends. GaoRanger 51: A beautiful and kick ass ending. I loved them fighting without powers to reach Senki and try to defeat him with their one last sword. I love that their spirits called out to all of the other Power Animals and restored their powers and combining with all of the Power Animals and using the Beast Blade to destroy Senki was amazing. I also loved that they all said their real names at the end that really was a great moment. I love how they all went back to their normal lives but stayed friends at the end I was surprised when Yellow showed up at Red's Vet office that was great and them all hanging out on Sky Island again with Tetom and Fuutaro was totally awesome. This is definitely a magnificent series one of the strongest Sentai's out there. I loved the entire team Yellow and Silver were my favorites but the entire team is going in my signature after that ending. I will say Ura is one of my favorite Sentai Villains ever and combined into Senki is totally awesome too. Yabaiba and Tsuetsue's ending was good for them but a little anticlimactic but still makes sense. GaoHunter and GaoIcarus are my favorite Mecha ever right now. Also back in 2001 GaoRanger and Kamen Rider Agito had to be one of the best Super Hero Time's they ever had with two extremely strong shows. Well I might go start a Battle Fever J rewatch after this but I am group watching Sentais with my friends and usually like watching with them so I'll be sporadic here. Is there a limit to how long posts go? lol GaoRanger vs Super Sentai: This was brilliant, I absolutely loved the returning Rangers in this movie. I think Gouki and Daimon stood out to me and I really want to watch all of the Sentais they are from. Well Big One was just amazing that man is absolutely magnificent. MegaPink is very interesting and I loved how she helped Gao White and explaining all the different Costume changes that Females used before. Ginga Blue helping Gao Black was great and I loved seeing all the Strong type of fighters throughout Sentai. Go Yellow is totally insane and great, I love his Milk Tornado Drop move and I love him teaching Gao Blue to get past his self doubt and seeing the clips from all the Rangers that used Techniques was great. I love that Gao Yellow got trained by Red Falcon because his type of character feels like he could have been a Red himself. I love them showing the clips from the swordsmen of Sentai was awesome too. I also really enjoyed seeing Red Falcon too even if it spoiled a bit of Liveman it was still great. I loved seeing them team up and fight together. All the Red Rangers coming back and all of the Red Mecha coming back to attack and fight was brilliant I loved the Super Sentai Spirit and the GaoRanger attack at the end. It was a great movie, I wish this would have happened later with Gao Silver but still a fantastic movie. Better than 10 Posts right? GaoRanger the Volcano Roars: Nice short movie here. GaoKnight looks really awesome for a different version of GaoGorilla creates a really awesome Movie Robo. Gao Kong was pretty cool too. I loved Gao Silver piloting Gao God I was waiting for that in the series, so I'm glad it happened somewhere for them. I loved the designs of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades Orgs they were really cool. Nice ideas in this movie I definitely could have seen this go longer but still nice movie and GaoKnight's finisher is badass. Well now I am out of GaoRanger. Hurricaneger vs GaoRanger: It was great seeing the GaoRangers return they got along really well with the Hurricanegers I wish it was fully subbed so I could watch that too. The villains turning into the GaoRangers was really cool and much better than the GaoRangers going evil. It must have been fun for the actors to play evil characters than who they are used too. I really liked all the team ups like Gao White and Hurricane Blue, Gao Silver with both Shurikenger and Kabuto Raiger was badass. Gao Blue and Kuwaga Raiger was fun and so was Gao Black and Shurikenger. Gao Yellow and Hurricane Yellow was a great team up and so was Gao Red and Hurricane Red too. I love the GaoRangers a lot and love that the Hurricanegers got their message of Never Giving Up and being pumped up. I am also happy that the GaoRangers finally destroyed Tsuetsue and Yabaiba that is great closure there. Also I loved that the Power Animals were able to combine with the Shinobi Machines too that was great to see a combination Robo. A very good team-up movie. Well I want more GaoRanger but not sure what to do now. |
Just got to Tsubasamaru's episode in Kakuranger (Just as a note: I'm not moving through the series that slowly. I've been watching one episode a day, and took a week long break at that :lol)
That was awesome. It's also quite the surprising ending for the episode. I'm rather used to episodes where rangers getting a new power means an utter steamroll and an ending with happy, smiling faces. While the MoTW was steamrolled like a bitch, it ended on quite the shocking note. Tsubasamaru is amazing. I absolutely loved his introduction (And I'm so glad I have the white Falcon zord now :lol), with the dodging and weaving and I've always loved his gun wings. Next episode is the turning point of the series, with the whole "End of Act I" thing. I don't know how it's going to go down, but I decided to write my feelings on things before watching it. I'm rather surprised at how much I enjoy Kakuranger, despite the comedy being incredibly sophomoric at times. It was already my number 2 series (Geki being 1) for the incredible action and, when it wants to be, intense moments. However, one of my biggest complaints was that only Sasuke and Jiraiya has what fells like actual characters. I'm hoping the Act II of this show fixes this problem and gives more character to Tsuruhime, Saizou, and Seikai, since the latter two only feel defined by their gags and once they slowed down on the character gags, they really felt lacking. So, as it stands, Act I was great. It had it's issues, but I'm hoping for Act II to fix them. Nin-Ninja! Nin'Ninjer! |
I finished Kakuranger and Jetman. Both were great with really good finales. I have started Dekaranger and Bioman and I am still crawling through Magiranger.
I know MillionFold Curiosity is subbing Gingamna and is through episode 30 or so, so I will watch that as it comes out after this new block of sentai is done. Anyone know where I can find Carranger and Ohranger? |

Okay, just got through the episodes of Kaku where they had to search for the Kakure scrolls. That was a pretty nice set of episodes. It was rather surprising that they were more than just physical trials and they had to learn something along the way (Though Seikai and Saizou's "Don't give up hope" lesson is painfully generic).
I was also caught off guard on how they presented the episodes. I thought they paired up Seikai and Saizou so they would only have to have 4 episodes of them searching for the scrolls, when they instead decided to give Jiraiya 2 episodes. I'm kind of split on this, honestly. On one hand, Jiraiya is awesome and can carry two episodes easily, and I'm glad that they didn't force these two episodes into one 20 minute chunk. It would've been way rushed otherwise. On the other hand, Seikai and Saizou still don't get to do jack. Even Seikai's willingness to sacrifice himself still seemed more odd than noble, and I think splitting them up and letting them each have a more dramatic episode would've been best. Otherwise, these recent 5 episodes were awesome. The beasts are awesome (Though the CGI on God Ganma was pretty horrible) and having the characters grow is always wonderful. |
I'm getting into Dairanger now, up to episode 4 as I post this. Not a bad series so far. Getting that nostalgic feeling from the mechs, loved the thunder megazord.
|
On with Kakuranger! Now in the 30's!
So, count me as incredibly surprised. I didn't expect Sandayuu to actually die. Mainly because he always seemed like the kind of character with a trick up his sleeve. I guess current day tropes are starting to get to me. However, 20 episodes left, so we'll see. The other reason was because he was the closest thing to a mentor character we had so far, so for him to die at the halfway point is actually surprising. Anyway, for the episodes itself, I'm up to episode 31. Tsuruhime's father is apparently a traitor who turned on humanity, Prince Junior/Gashadokuro is defeated in battle (And it seems like Dr. Yugami is gone, too), and now Daimaoh has finally arrived. It's actually kind of saddening to see Junior gone, not out of sympathy or anything, but because it's rare to have such an active main villain. I guess after enduring villains who sit around and do nothing like Kyoryu's Chaos, Gosei's Mon Drake, or Gokai's Warz Gill, someone like Junior was a breath of fresh air and fun to watch. He may not have been the most efficient, but he was awesome. Additionally, the Kakurangers received Kakure Daishogun and Super Kakure Daishogun, as well as the Thunder Sword, Hikarimaru, from Tsubasamaru (Damn, at this point, Tsubasamaru might as well be a Kakuranger with all the work he's putting in :lol). So these two episodes have been major turning points, with the Kakurangers receiving the final mecha of the God Generals, the loss of an important ancillary character, and the shift in power for the villains. A few final thoughts, I still doubt Tsuruhime's father turned. And, despite being one of the few on the planet, I still think Kakure Daishogun looks way cooler than Muteki Shogun. http://i.imgur.com/TRBzImS.png |
The only things I did not like about the search for the Kakure scrolls arc include that Sasuke ended up being the only one to truly do everything on his own and that both Sekai and Saizou did not get their own individual episodes. It just shows how bland those two really are, which is unfortunate. That Jaraiya 2 parter though, DAMN!!
Junior is one of my favorite Sentai villains of all time, so I to was saddened by him dying so soon, but he was magnificent every moment he was on screen and I'm glad they killed him off when they took him as far as they could rather than just let him linger on as a lackey for the remainder of the series. |
When my wife watched the Jaraiya 2 parter with me, she was glued to it the screen. Before I started part 2, she was happy that she wouldn't have to wait a week for it to conclude. Also, that fight with his sensei was crazy!
I like Saizou, but I do agree he is pretty bland in the grand scheme of things in the show. Him and Seikai were both the comic relief, but also had random serious moments. The really only wrote 4 characters for the show. That is my only gripe for Kakuranger...seriously. lol |
I was kind of disappointed that only Sasuke got his scroll without help by the team. Tsuruhime's made sense, since her trial wasn't finding the scroll, but becoming a leader, so the dolls fit, but the others didn't have the same excuse (Especially as Jiraiya walked off alone. Sasuke randomly showing up was kinda shoehorned in).
I guess having Junior killed off at this point was better than turning him into Daimaoh's bitch and being nowhere near as fun to watch. Still unfortunate. As for Saizou and Seikai, the problem is that they put way too much focus on their comic relief. Their serious moments were always surrounded by a sea of comedy, so it stood out, but it didn't change that they were still just dicking around for 15 minutes of the episode...I wish they got to do more, but I guess the three who got to be actual characters are fine enough. |

Every season does have one or two characters that just get kind of left out after a certain point.
|
Well, just hit the episode that marked the debut of Ninjaman! And he's pretty fun. Like, a complete inverse of PR's Ninjor. He's not the wise leader, but a warrior who's mistake cost him big time.
There isn't much to say about him, really, as I learned much about him thanks to Gokaiger, and his design has always been great. I'm only really making this post because this episode also confirmed that Tsuruhime's father didn't actually turn (Which now leads me to question whether Sandayuu is truly dead). |
Holy shit, that three parter was intense~!
Just finished episodes 43-44. So much happened that I don't even know where to begin. Daimaoh spawns Daradara and absorbs Ninjaman's powers and subsequently transfers any pain it feels to Ninjaman, forcing the God Generals to retreat. We have Hakumenro reveal to Tsuruhime his intentions and get found out by Daimaoh. Daimaoh then sends the Flower Kunoichi Gang and Daradara against the rangers and thoroughly defeats all 5, Sasuke escaping by the skin of his teeth. The God Generals following Spock's logic of the needs of the many in a shocking scene. We get the revelation of what happened Taro and Jiro and who Bun really is, as well as another Sasuke to the rescue in an awesome scene. It also seems that the Daimaoh is starting his endgame plan. Man, this three parter was amazing. It did so much, and I'm so, so, so glad they split it up into 3 episodes. With everything that went down, I'm so glad they didn't try to cram it into 2, or, god forbid, one episode by trimming a lot of it down. It was awesome! Next episode seems rather throwaway, but I guess after everything that just went down, they'd need the time to calm things down a bit :lol |
What did you think of the Punishment Sisters episode?
|
Quote:
I certainly wasn't expecting that. It was pretty off the wall, with Tsuruhime apparently being both a ninja and a magical girl. I think it was pretty awesome~ It does lead me to question how far they took punishing bullies when they were younger considering they had explosive batons :lol |
Annnnnnnd done. Finished Kakuranger today.
For the finale, it was okay, but actually something of a letdown. The big climax occurred in the episode before, basically. This one was just pushing Daimaoh into a door... But it wasn't bad. I do like that it changed things up, and the villain was wanting to be killed and the rangers had to be talked out of destroying him. It's just a little disappointing that they didn't get a big final fight against Daimaoh and the possible climax against the Kunoichi Gang was nonexistent (It was kind of disappointing that there was no true final fight against the Kunoichi, villains who had been in the series longer than both Junior and Daimaoh). Anyway, onto the series as a whole. Wow, that series was awesome. When I first started Kakuranger, I was expecting a comedy before becoming a needless drama series during the last 20 episodes. Instead, I got a series that handled both the humor and the serious moments incredibly well, to my surprise. You could feel tension during the serious moments, and when the stakes were raised things actually got tense. The comedy, while admittedly not always hitting on it's mark (Which I'm willing to forgive, since it's a children's show in another language), didn't feel like it was intrusive as it was something present from the very start. While the later episodes did feel a little forced as breather episodes, they were still fun (To an extent). Concerning the characters, the ones who got fleshed out were great. I loved Tsuruhime, Sasuke, and Jiraiya. Their episodes were always highlights and great watches. Tsuruhime's and Jiraiya's episodes tended to focus on their past, where we got to learn why they became the people they are now, and why they tended to be the most tense. While we didn't learn much of Sasuke's history, he had the most growth, going from a slack off and a jackass into a true warrior and hero. Unfortunately, much like almost every other Sentai, not all the characters get to grow, and that's where Seikai and Saizou fit in. While they did become more serious like Sasuke, it wasn't very gradual. As the series became more serious, their comedic elements only appeared on episodes centered around them, as because they were defined by their comedy, they basically just became extra swords in battle and that's it. It wasn't helped that they were almost always paired up, so they were constantly sharing the screen. As for additional characters, there isn't much to talk about, which is rather strange, since these additional characters were a vital part of the series. Hakumenro was a big player, but he spent almost 10 episodes straight as nothing but set dressing (And no, I'm not referring to the part when he was turned to stone). Once his plan was revealed, he proceeded to spend time as literally nothing but part of the set. Taro and Jiro only really got three appearances, despite their disappearance playing into why Tsuruhime became how she is, and Bun...Yep. He existed too. Sandayuu really did die, sadly, not even getting to pull a force ghost or anything in the finale. It's unfortunate, since I really enjoyed him. The only other character of note I can remember is Jiraiya's former teacher, despite only appearing in the two parter, because of his integral part in his backstory as well as his tragic history as well. In terms of design, Kakuranger has some of my favorites. The sleek, simple outfits fit the ninja theme perfectly, and watching them in action is always a plus. The mecha are also amazing to look at, despite going with a shogun theme rather than a ninja one. I loved Muteki Shogun's giant castle look and his huge, imposing design. But the personal favorite of mine was Kakure Daishogun, because he's awesome. Much closer to the ninja theme, it's sleek and thin, but considered the more powerful of the two, ironically. Tsubasamaru always had a great look to it, thanks to it's large wingspan and awesome combination. Ninjaman (Who I decided to list with the mecha, since his character is just a little kid playing grown up with a trait of getting angry when called a novice) has a nice design to him, too, though his Samuraiman form never wowed me, neither as a kid or now. The yokai were hit and miss. While some MOTW looked amazing, others just looked like complete trash. I did like the idea of the yokai being modern day incarnations of the demons from traditional Japanese history (The one thing the narrator did that was useful was describe the yokai, but I'm not going to lie when I say that I couldn't stand that guy. Forcing his way into the episode mid fight sequence just to tell me that the trash yokai lives in trash? Thanks...I was so happy when he was finally cut from the series). However, the yokai that will forever stand out in design Gashadokuro, one of the best looking villains in the franchise. Speaking of Gashadokuro, the villains were wonderful! ...Up to episode 31. One of my biggest complaints about Sentai is that far too many of the villains just sit on their throne and throw tantrums when their minions die. Prince Junior was amazing because he did far, far more than that, actively getting involved with plans and actively aiding minions (Well, not joining them in battle, but still, he'd help in some ways). He was energetic, too, so when he was in his fortress, he was doing far more than sitting around, like rocking out with his guitar or piano. One he was axed off, it was incredibly disappointing that his replacement, Daimaoh, was the exact kind of villain I couldn't stand. He wasn't terrible, but he was just such a massive step down from Junior... However, while the leaders had their ups and downs, one group of villains were always great, the Flower Kunoichi Gang. While I'm disappointed that they didn't get an epic final showdown, their prolonged presence made it clear that they were far stronger than the generic MOTW format. So, yeah. Kakuranger was an awesome series that, while I don't think is perfect for everyone, is definitely worth a watch. I'd definitely rank it my 2nd favorite Sentai, behind Gekiranger. |
I'm watching Liveman.
|
To be fair, it's not like the Daimaoh costume allowed them to really do anything with him. And KakuRanger is my second favorite Sentai with Dai in 1st and Geki in 3rd. :lol

Go-Busters 18:
Jin is SUCH a troll, the way he got Hiromu to stop asking questiosn and "go with" the plan. Though, I guess it makes sense, considering he's been stuck in cyber/subspace for 14 years... So does that make him a literal incarnation of an internet troll? |

I just finished Episode 35 of Abaranger. Mikoto Nakadai is a bastard.

Abaranger 1-8
Yay, it was a good choice to get back into watching Sentai with that one. Abaranger is so much fun and the characters are lovely. It sure has some weirdly paced moments as well, but overall, I enjoy the show a lot. |
OhRanger 5-9: This was a total blast, even the tonal change in episode 9 I'm perfectly fine with it was totally exciting and fun. I am loving Yuuji (Blue) and Momo (Pink) a lot they are my favorites from this season. Yuuji's focus episode was really good and so was Momo's and Juri's too. The Mecha were awesome too. Very good series I want to watch more of it.
|
Liveman. I've mostly put off watching any more Flashman because of this. I love how fluid the show has been so far, there hasn't really been anything that bothers me too much here. The second episode does have have a few jarring cuts, such as all of a sudden our three heroes having scuba gear and arriving to their underwater base. No establishing shot of them grabbing the gear or anything, just them arriving. Episode 3 also has some flimsy as hell logic from Joh that basically boils down to "He saved a puppy once, that makes it okay that he murdered someone." It's practically a Hitler ate sugar argument.
Episode 6 was honestly outright cringe worthy, but 7 more than makes up for it. I was almost dreading 7 since it was a second part of 6, but it was really good and had some legitimately sad moments for something that's a rather goofy looking rubber suit. The writing(Aside from ep6) is really strong and enjoyable, most everything else are just minor blights on otherwise fantastic episodes. I like the characters, and Colon might be my favorite of all Sentai robot buddies, if only because she actually does things outside of the base. She might not be a great fighter and bit slow moving, but she can sure as hell run your ass over with a Jeep. The thing that probably sticks out most to me from a visual standpoint is just how well the SFX are done. I love when Zords have complicated or unique movements, and Land Lion is a great example of that. It's not that different from the later Saber Tiger, but this looks incredible for 1988, and most of the others look great too. Live Robo is okay, it's not as great looking as say Flash King, but I do like the design. Some of the make up is great too, the burnt looking skin that pulsates in ep3 is really fantastic and a bit disgusting. Even if a particular design isn't all that great they usually do something good with it in another way. The dinosaur Gon in episode 6 and 7...it's not a great costume, not a good one for that matter. But the writing combined with other visuals actually make it worth something. Doctor Kemp looks like a rejected Furby, but the transformation sequence is horrifying and is done simply by having sped up head movements and a blur effects, it's slightly disturbing, looking almost like a violent seizure. And while Live Robo might not be a bad design, I enjoy how they use it even more, mainly in that they remember they have a giant lion chest cannon and use it regularly, which works great from both visual and writing standpoint. Oh, and the ending them is catchy as all hell. |
I'm up to episode 23 of Dairanger, just had Wong tiger introduced. The series is chugging along nicely.
Gotta be honest though Kou's character was really starting to annoy me until they introduced Akumaro. |
Going through Kyoryuger now. I'm finding it quite enjoyable. It's definitely bright and light-hearted, but the emphasis is on action and general ass-kicking as opposed to comedy. I just wish there was more tension among the Kyoryugers. Everyone gets along with each other so well, so I'm afraid that there could be moments of flatness when they interact. Not that there's anything wrong with being buddy-buddy, and at the very least, it's not like the Super Best Friends that exist in, say, Maskman or Zyuranger. My favorite shows so far have tended to be those where the personalities conflict with each other in certain ways. Tension doesn't always need to be angry or angsty, after all. There was plenty of tension in Shinkenger, Gokaiger, Liveman, and Hurricanger, even though everyone got along very well otherwise, as opposed to something like Jetman, where half the team were at each other's throats.

Planning to start Megaranger when I get home later today.
