I highly doubt gender play that much into how a starter preforms. Plus when Popplio fully evolves it has a really good Special Attack stat eitherway.

I bred my Dartrix on Moon and put the newly hatched Rowlet on GTS for a Female Popplio. I got the Popplio about 20 minutes later. Sadly, it had a terrible nature. I bred about five more and hatched a female Popplio with a Quiet Nature.
