I'm actually fine with the month still being October to be perfectly honest.
|
Man that trailer looks great, I really can't wait to see this movie.

So what was everyone's thoughts on Battlefront 2 if anyone played, it'd be interesting to know given what's going on with it since it's release. I'll divide my opinion into multiplayer/arcade and campaign:
Multiplayer I'm not much of a multiplayer kind of guy (mainly because I'm not really competitive and I don't like to spend a lot of time "grinding" or playing online and would rather do something else, so it didn't really bother as much. I tried Arcade a few times but that was kind of bland. Apart from different maps, it just felt like the same thing over and over again only with some changes, so I got easily bored. The stuff with micro-transactions and loot boxes were fairly obvious and kind of expected so I wasn't surprised by all the outrage about it. Campaign Oh boy, the campaign, I have a lot to say about this and I'll put spoiler covers on anything i regard as a spoiler just in case. Short and boring. You could tell how short it was in some parts because in some "missions" they would open with a cutscene then you spend about a minute or less walking around as the characters discuss "things" then it goes back to a cutscene which would either continue or summarise what the less than 1 minute in-game conversation was about. Just make the whole thing a cutscene. Iden wasn't interesting at all. I wish they built up her (and possibly Del's) struggle with realising that the Empire isn't all that great and the Rebellion are fighting for what's right but the game does that too quickly (1 maybe 2 missions and a cutscene, if I remember correctly). Also, the shoe-horned romance at the end of the game between Iden and Del. Like, where did that come from?! I was genuinely surprised and confused when they kissed. It was Kyoryuger Daigo and Amy levels of out-of-nowhere romantic coupling (Daigo-wise). Hask is a terrible "villain" (I use "villain" lightly as he does close to nothing to earn that title as he really doesnt add anything to the story) and so was Garrick. Most of the returning Original Trilogy characters were useless as well: Luke's mission was to foreshadow Force Awakens and have Del question the Empire, didn't care much for Leia's mission, Han's was another connection to Force Awakens (in terms of characters and location) and to foreshadow potential DLC regarding Kashyyyk and the Wookies, and Lando's was another boring mission. And each of them had Iden and Del involved in it, mostly for minor reasons (possibly to remind you that they exist and are in the game) Also, the objectives of each mission were lack-luster and didn't really provide a 'variety' if you know what I mean. For example, in the original Battlefront II 2nd level "Mygeeto - Amongst the Ruins" the main objective is to take down an energy collector at the northern section of the map. To achieve this objective you have to perform several other acts/objectives that connect to the main one: capture the enemy command post at the other end of the bridge, take out the turrets so General Mundi can arrive, get past the shielded barricade, capture another CP to serve as a lookout, go back to getting past the shield, destroy the core's shield, take out the core, and collect the core samples and return to the first starting point and deliver then to a drop ship. There's a variety, it isn't essentially the same thing over and over again repeating itself or not adding to one another. Each "smaller" objective had its own or similar challenge/s (you couldn't really charge in by yourself to take the CP at the end of the bridge, you had to minimise enemy forces in order to get your own troops to help take the CP). And most objectives/missions would sometimes force you to change character classes to achieve quicker or better results (e.g. I would use the standard trooper class for almost every mission but every now and again, i would change class if the trooper wasn't suited for the job at hand. Using the aforementioned Mygeeto level, changing to a Clone Heavy Trooper to take down the turrets due to using a rocket launcher as a weapon. Now using the 4th mission (The Storm) of the current BFII, there are two main objectives: 1st retrieve Protectorate Gleb (where you essentially do nothing, you walk and talk for this objective), and the 2nd is to escape (which has smaller objectives in it that actually connect to this main objective). There isn't much of a variety in the 2nd objective (escape, take an AT-AT, shoot stuff, help civilians and crew escape). None of interested it me, and unlike the original BFII, I didn't feel like I wanted to go back and play that mission again for enjoyment. Also, having regenerating health was dumb. In the original Battlefront games, it kind of made sense not to regenerate health as you played as expendable soldiers that can be replaced by another and if they needed to be healed, there was health stations or packs littered across the map to help you (and for most objectives/game modes if I remember correctly, you'd be limited in number of forces so it was overtly encouraged not to die). In this game, there really wasn't a sense of urgency or threat if you could just hide and regain health (or used campaign star cards that assist in health). In the last levels (I dont remember if this was by default or a star card i selected), one of Iden's abilities is to have her droid replenish her health and increase it for a short duration or until depleted). The threat of death or failing the mission and having to start again from your last checkpoint is gone. In the last Jakku level, I spent most of the time traversing on the side of the Star Destroyer by running and using that health ability. There's no challenge if the game provides you with an easier alternative. Granted, I chose to do that but why have it there in the first place. It's the end game and the setting implies that it is, so it makes you think time is of the essence but it really isn't. Also, I heard you would've had to read a book or a comic to understand some of the "new characters or what happens to them after or during the game. This is the same problem I had with Halo 5: Guardians; (too much) reliance on expanded material such as books/comics/shows/etc. Because BFII isn't a direct sequel (in regards to story/plot) to the first BF, any character that isnt from the original (or prequel/sequel) trilogy that we know already, is obviously a "new" character so players would have no idea who they are or what they're like. Granted, you dont want the game to be full on exposition to understand the character but at least "reveal" who they are and how they fit in the story. When I played the campaign, I didn't feel like any of Inferno Squad were integral to the overall plot of Star Wars or at least this game. If I read the book/comic, I might have a better understanding of who they are and how they fit in the story/theme but I doubt it would change my opinion on the game. Iden wasn't interesting for me, nothing she did or say or her overall "importance" to the plot garnered any reason why I should like her as the main "protagonist". Same with the antagonists. Garrick and Hask are generic antagonists. They're with the Empire which is bad, they want to enslave and/or kill people which is bad. But these are generic reasons to hate an antagonist or want them to fail. Overall, really disappointed with the game. Didn't care much for multiplayer but campaign was a huge disappointment. I was happy that there was an actually campaign in the game but they could've done much better IMO. |
So what was everyone's thoughts on The Last Jedi? Here's a link to my thoughts since I don't wanna take up space in the thread like with my Battlefront 2 opinion. The link should work. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...it?usp=sharing

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Even though one thing really upset because of the timing of it all happening.
|
I personally like Last Jedi and I felt like it was a improvement over Episode 7. This movie took some risk to do something different while Episode 7 is lazy, shallow, and reliant on nostalgia-porn.
|
definetly has some slow parts, but deffinetly a good movie

If they had a proper progression system that didn't rely so heavily on microtransactions, they would've made more money than they did, and the sad thing is: they would've easily had a game of the year contender too. |
So saw that Star Wars 8. Middle part was boring but thankfully the movie redeemed itself the moment when Emo Vader Ben revolcane'd Snoke in half with good old jedi skills and they basically gave us a double rider homage with Rey and Ben.
The third act redeemed itself for me from being a boring film and I overall enjoyed what I saw. And now I want a Kylo Ren figure. :lolol |
I still think Rey is a dull character. I personally don't care about her that much compare to Luke and Anakin in my opinion.

After Episode 9, I will probably where I tap out of these Disney Star Wars movies. I will see Episode 9 just to see how the story ends and I can compare them to the prequels. I have no plans on seeing the Young Han Solo movie. That movie is just a whole galaxy full of no.
The only spin off movie that I want to see a possible Boba Fett movie if it is done in a style reminiscent of a cross between Spaghetti Westerns and classic film Noir. |
Random tangent. Rogue one is the best Episode 3.5 there ever was is and will be.
|
Agreed, Rogue One is fantastic, probably tied with Empire for my favorite SW film. Or it was until last week.
I LOVED The Last Jedi. It's possibly my new favoritest SW film. I'm not sure yet. I'm going again tomorrow with my wife and oldest daughter. I'm very excited to see it again, and decide if I like it more than, or the same as, Empire and Rogue One. |
Watched the last Jedi last night.
...I dont fully understand wht people hate this movie. |
Ehhh. Gonna put it out there and say I didn't like Rogue One. It's not prequels bad by any means but hardly a film I want to revisit.
I thought the tone, approach and ending were all great, but I disliked pretty much every character except K-2SO so was just uninterested in the entire thing. |
Yeah it was great, and looking back I probably fell asleep for a bit during the middle of the movie due to the casino scene being longer than it should be but also cause I was a bit tired when I went to go see it and the theater was toasty warm. :lolol
But this movie was one of the few rarities where the third act was satisfactory. And like I said, Rey and Ben's double rider moment was AWESOME. |
Rouge One was great when I first saw in in theaters. But I find that its flaws become much more apparent on the second viewing, and doesn't hold up as much. I like the characters just fine, it's just a damn shame that they can't really do anything else with them because of well...spoilers. It's just hard for me to get invested in the movie a second time knowing it does not end well for them.

So who is part of the "I will buy Last Jedi on DVD or Blu-ray" club?
|
Probably when the movie is on sale for $10 at Target or Wal-Mart later in the near future.

With Disney owning Fox, it will be a matter of time when the original versions of Episodes 4-6 get a proper HD release. Disney should let Criterion restore the original movies on Blu-Ray because they would do a perfect job on it.
|
That's something I've discussed with people several times. I have been surprised that Disney hasn't already released the theatrical versions of the Original Trilogy.
But then recently, somebody reminded me that the original negatives were modified to make the Special Editions. I haven't seen the old SE documentaries since 97, but I THINK the new special effects were added to the original negatives, so Disney can't just slap it on BluRay/digital and release it. They'd have to do some work to re-edit the negatives, remove the SE footage to return them to the theatrical version. Maybe that means they wouldn't have to do some of the audio/visual clean up that people want, but still, it's apparently not a trivial thing, or I'm sure they'd have done it already. I mean, I still think they will, but it could take some time. |

Yeah I am planning to buy it on the first week if possible. Other than the casino scene I enjoyed it. The decisive moment where Ben wi-fi sliced Snoke in half and took over was pretty much the thesis for this film for me. It was a bold statement and made quite an impression. |
Oh, that is absolutely my favorite part. The last showdown with Kylo Ren at the end is also pretty great, but that Throne Room scene is definitely the best.
The casino bit is by far the least good part. In fact, I watched it a third time yesterday, and was kind uninterested by the entire Resistance thread of the film. I don't dislike it, but it's SO much less interesting than the Rey and Kylo Ren stuff. I kinda want a fan-edit of the film that's just all the Kylo Ren and Rey parts of the film, adding the resistance stuff in once the First Order starts firing on the transports. :D |

Actually, all the best scenes of the film didn't really happen till the third act. The kamikaze hyperdrive is easily the best part of the movie. |

I needed a few days to process this movie but afterward, I came to the conclusion that I liked it, although it was way too long and had too many things going on. But them doing something new is really refreshing.
I really can't understand the people who are so upset with this movie. I'm in fact currently reading some EU-books again, the ones that play in a similar timeframe as these new movies and I asked myself what I enjoy more. And I like the answer that I found: That both exist. It's so much fun to have both. Both have their weaknesses and strengths but ultimately I like that the new movies are so different. Although, having two Ben's is a bit weird :lol Going back to the movie, the MVP for me was the Yoda-scene. It was so good. I hear many people talking about the fighting scene in Snoke's throne room but I gotta admit, at that point, I was already too exhausted to really process what was going on. I'm really looking forward to seeing it again at home. Quote:
@Topic: Was I the only one who was massively disappointed that the racing track on that resort for the rich people wasn't used for pod racing? I feel like that would've been a super neat way to throw fans of the prequels a bone. I mean the little slave children are incredibly important for the message of the movie but couldn't they also just have been used as labor forces for the racing equipment and machinery? I don't know, maybe the Anakin Skywalker-analogy would've been too strong, not that there would be one but people probably would make that comparison themselves. |
so a friend of mine shared this and i found it to be quite ironic. So if anyone can't see it clearly or it doesn't pop-up, it's concept art of Rose, and Rian Johnson stated that for Canto Bight/casino planet, originally Finn was gonna have Poe join him but Rian Johnson thought it was boring and wanted Finn to be accompanied by somebody that would challenge, push, and contrast with him, hence Rose was created for that. What I found ironic is that he thought Poe and Finn doing the Canto Bight visit was boring and the irony being is that the end result with Rose and Finn visiting Canto Bight was that it was also boring.

They also had Lando as the code breaker in early scripts but I'm glad they changed that.
I agree with you though, the Canto Bight trip wasn't the best part of the film for sure. |

I don't care what anybody said. I consider most of this video to be canon. :D |

Well, Episode IX has started filming. I wish I could say I was excited.

And that, friends, is why Leia flying through space and surviving was absolutely dumb. |
