Journey to One was...pretty average. I hope the two other episodes impress, but I'm not too hopeful. I didn't dislike it I guess, I suppose anything is better than the shorts from last year. But...eh. It's a good thing my expectations weren't particularly high.

At least the voice acting felt pretty decent in general. I like Onua's voice, at the least.

Boy the writing in this show is awful. I feel bad for the VA's, because they really sound like they're trying to give a shit, but it's so... bad.

It's pretty bland as a whole, Umarak's powers are cool, Pohatu's relationship with his creature is incredibly childish but relatively amusing and Lewa is fairly cool all things said.

But most of it was... really generic and predictable, it feels like a step down from the episodes I've seen of Ninjago, even Hero Factory tended to fare better.

So have any of you seen the new trailers for JtO? I'm personally pretty excited for the next two episodes and seeing how much is packed in there.

I'm sure I'll watch it, but I'm not entirely crazy for it. We already know what happens, after all.

I'm guessing you're saying that based off of how JtO ended? Don't have Netflix now so am only going off of what I've read, but it does sound quite... conclusive.

Which makes there being a physical Mask of Ultimate Power in that "build Makuta" contest video a little confusing. Because really why make that if it was ending? I guess plans change, but it seems like we indeed were at least going to get some sort of Makuta set for it...

G2 as a whole was a huge letdown for me. I barely even bought the sets, though of course a part of me still wants to go finish picking them up. The minimalist approach of the theme just couldn't grab me anymore. :/

I'm disappointed but not surprised. I'll be honest, what really grabbed Talinugget all those years ago was just how deep the Bionicle universe went. Granted I was an oddball of a child, but I have to think that at least part of G2's failure was because of how incredibly simplistic the approach was. I'm sure they would've built upon it, but... too little at a time.

That's the issue, it's an issue of "Tell, Not Show." They just told basic stuff and expected it to work. But you need to make us care, to make us want to explore the world. Le-Koro wasn't just "jungle tribe," they were musicians and airmen with squadrons of giant birds they flew in battle. Ta-Koro wasn't just "fire guys," they were a orderly fortress with a military guard and a wise sage leader like something from an RPG. Onu-Koro was a mining civilization that raced crabs and invented gadgets like the Boxor, Po-Koro where artisans and athletes who trademarked the island's pastime of Kohlii, Ga-Koro were a seafaring people, with sailors, astronomers, weavers and fishers and lived on giant lilypads, and Ko-Koro was a monastic retreat high in the icy mountains where scholars discussed philosophy and worked toward a sense of inner peace in a quiet glacier.

2015 failed at world-building. It tried to go simple like Hero Factory which failed because Hero Factory was just about Robotic Heroes fighting threats as a galactic peace keeping force. There didn't need to be much world building because it was just "we build heroes to fight any villainous force that shows up." It was like a police drama, you don't world-build a police drama, the world isn't the interesting part.

But with a mystical epic like Bionicle, world-building is everything. If I don't care about the world, I won't care about the story.

Man you made me missed the days of the great Metru Nui stories, my favorite lore during the original bionicle, runner up would be the Mahri's.

I really enjoyed the way the sets looked this time around and I was looking forward to where the story was going to go from there. It sucks that there won't a Makuta of MoUP released. Had they announced those I would be satisfied.
