Thanks again. I ordered from walmart online. They didn't have the low odor, but they had the normal clear coat and some testors. Going to pick it up in store this afternoon.

One word of advice, some stickers will refuse to stay on (claws) and others simply look bad (sword), so use only the ones you think look good, otherwise it'll become a stickered mess.

Im debating getting into Minipla building, decided DX mecha is an unsustainable hobby along with transformers, Lego and Play Arts Kai, so my question is, is there a particular line that people recommend starting on? I was tempted by Kyoryuger as its the first sentai ive really gotten into from the start, but Gokaiger and Gobusters still have a fair bit of appeal.

Well, out of the three of them I would personally recommend Go-Busters minipla the most, it looks excellent and has incredible poseability (this is where Kyoryuger, apart from Plezuon, falls down), particularly Ace. Plus, if you're going to try to collect whole lines I think the Go-Busters far outstrip the others as a whole, as you can combine them in new/regular ways much more easily/successfully than other minipla if that's your thing, which is where Gokaiger isn't so great for me. That said, Goujyuzin was my first minipla, and quite possibly still my favourite.

Outside of that, Goseiger is great if a little hard to find outside of Mandarake occasionally (in fact I think there's a decent set on there at the moment). Go-Onger is also great, but tends to be a bit expensive, and the same with Shinkenger.

Kinda disappointed (Though not dissuaded) with my first attempt.

So, I opened box one of Bragigas and went the sticker route. I then used Krylon matte spray clear coat after.

Next up, I opened box 2, did some painting with elmer's painters pens and really liked what I saw. Then I did the clear coat.

In both cases, the clearcoat muted the colors, and while it made the raw plastic look better, I don't think it did much for the stickers or paint. I think I'm going to go into the next one doing 100% paint and no clearcoat and see how that turns out.

Another suggestion for a beginning MiniPla collector: Gekiranger. There were some good designs in that series that were too static in their DX toy form, but are fully posable and dynamic in their MiniPla version.

There is Gekiranger Minipla? Jungle Fury is my favourite Ranger series, and they had some awesome Zords in that show.

Yeah man. Minipla goes all the way back to the 90s'. Though they only had good articulation from Boukenger onward.

I have Gekitouja(Jungle Pride) and it's pretty cool. It's the only release I know of with alternate hands.

I'm gonna have to keep an eye out on Mandrake!

Anyways, Dom's megazord (SaiDain in Gekiranger) is often in Mandarake, so keep your eyes open, I also saw GekiFire/Jungle Master once, but that one sold out fast.

Jungle Master is on there for 4000 yen right now, if you want him man, grab him. I'd hate to come and steal your thunder.

Cheers for the advice gents, was thinking Go Busters as i could get the full set on Jungle, but the cost of postage was going to be so high it wasnt justifiable. Going to try my hand with one of the recent sets for Kyoryuger and then move on to Go Busters and Gekiranger once i can track them down.

Besides I only care about Touja/Pride, and I'm not in a rush.

So, for the last part of the set (the front legs), I decided to fully assemble (vs painting while still in pieces like on kit 2) and then paint with my wife's acrylic paints. I finished it off with a gloss clearcoat (spray).

The gold doesn't match DX bragigas, but overall I think it looks better than the back legs, and definitely the head (kit 1). I got 2 more full kits, so I think I'll pop open another and do it up like the last one.

I promised myself when I started watching sentai I wouldn't buy the mecha's but after looking at all of your mini pla....dammit I want to collect them all XP I love their size and the fact you get to paint/detail them(was an arts and crafts person as a kid)

My main goal is to collect all of the Kyouryuuger mini's but since most places seem to be sold out of them it'll probably be a while until I try to find them on mandrake because with all of my preorders for the first few months of next year I don't know if I'll have the spare cash.

I did manage to grab me a Bragias set on Premium Bandai(through shopping mall Japan) when I preordered the beautiful golden Raiden Kamitsuki Gattai Raiden Kyoryuzin.

I just can't wait to get him, though before that I need to get some paint and practice before getting him. I'm pretty confident in my painting skills but I've never tried to paint plastic before.

What would a complete Kyoryuzin set me back?

Anywhere from 600 to 2400 yen, Minipla is rather inexpensive in nature, most of the time the problem is finding them.

I don't see it in mandarake, so ebay may be your best choice.

The instant I viewed this post(the one by kamen rider ooo, with the shiny silver paint) I immediately damned my inability to paint. curse you, you wonderful, wonderful man.

So what's the preferred setup for painting? Airbrush? Paint brush? Does anyone have any stands or anything to hold pieces on while painting?

Gah, I really need to order Bragigas once all of this slow xmas time postage nonsense is over with. All of your guys' look amazing.

I just use a paintbrush. I'm also kinda lazy (in that I want to get it done as quick as possible, with as little extra faffing as possible too) so I'll just hold it myself, and then when it dries paint the area where my fingers where. Not the best method but it works for me =)

Finished up my Brickgigas earlier today, thus completing my Kyoryuger minipla collection. Decided to go on show/DX colours rather than an all-silver look, kinda wish I hadn't used the foil stickers because they suck but c'est la vie.

Overall the Kyoryuger line goes out with a complete whimper. This isn't just a barely articulated brick, but it was a really boring build made up of most giant parts with about 4 steps per box. Out of the four minipla lines I have this is by far and large my least favourite.

Hopefully Tokkyuger will reignite my love for the line again.

At a guess? That the kyoryuger line has been pretty meh, and that hopefully toky... However it's spelt will be better.

Either way, nice job as usual Zeo. The minipla do look good but, apart from Plezuoh imo, they really do lack that Minipla sparkle.

I hope so too. So far the DX Tokkyu-oh has been EXTREMELY underwhelming and I dont see how the Minipla can really make it any better but I really do hope for a quality line up.

Where do you get specific kits? I've heard people say Mandrake, but when I search for a mecha by name, I get little to no results.

Yeah the only ones you can get from CS toys right now aside from a few left over Gobuster ones are Bragigas, Parasagun, and Zakutor.

I really should've gotten more of the Kyoruger ones when I had the chance…especially now that I've been kind of in a minipla mood lately.

Yeah. If you wanna search Mandarake, it's gotta be in Japanese. You can use the phonetic translate function on Google Translate to get the right characters.
