No trailer at Power Morphicon is somewhat worrying.
|
tbh I'm VERY curious how this movie will go. It seems like it's stuck, as people will think it's just for kids or an Iron Man ripoff
|
That's because it is, and it's Power Rangers; thanks to the stigma from the original show (I can't even say nostalgia since it's getting equal marketing to the current airing show for some reason), the bad acting combined with nonsensical dialogue during the gymnastics portion, it's not surprising adults aren't looking in a less than stellar light.
|
I don't get how people will say something like PR has a bad stigma and yet TMNT and Transformers but does not. How come those two can be view as something seriously but not PR. I mean humanoid turtles that fight crime and eat pizza is no different than teenagers fighting monsters.

After 2007, Transformers was taken more seriously seeing that we got bigger budget video games like War for Cybertron and Devastation. Not to mention more comic books as well. Before 2007, Transformers was mostly remember as a cartoon from the 1980's then the movie was a huge hit in 2007 that got non fans into the franchise. I hope the new PR movie will do the same thing and the bad stigma for PR will be gone.
I know Power Rangers will always be for kids, but I do wish it was a IP that more people would take it for more seriously like we do with TMNT and Transformers. |

And sorry but considering the fact that the studio isn't putting much effort into this *the blatant Iron Man ripping off* I doubt it. Why? I mean I get wanting to get more people into the franchise but what's wrong with people just seeing it as a goofy kid's show*which it is*? |
It's fine that PR is a goofy show for kids, but so are Transformers and TMNT. I wish people view PR beyond just being a silly show. I don't mean make it dark and serious. I mean look at the universe and stories and do more with it. With Transformers, the franchise has grown a lot after 2007 with more stuff added to the franchise.
|
In the case of TMNT let us not forget that the source material was considered dark and it was the cartoon that made it the light-hearted daily adventures the majority know.
|
Yeah and yet I still don't get how teenagers who fight monsters in spandex is view as stupid and cheesy while mutant humanoid turtles who fight crime, eat pizza and have cheesy one liners are is more acceptable to general people. Same with Transformers with Mega Zords being mock at for being stupid while Transformers have giant robots and people are cool with it.
I want the bad PR stigma to be gone because I want the PR series to be a franchise to be enjoy by everyone. When Transformers Prime aired on TV, it had both kids and adults watching it. Even Combiner Wars is market as a TF show for the older fans. I still hope the new PR movies does well that it can become a bigger franchise and move on from just a nostalgic TV show. |

It's kind of like the Aquaman curse.
Everyone looked stupid in Super Friends, but all people remember is Aquaman appearing to be the worst because of his particular powers not being sexy enough. Batman went through a whole time period of disrespect before the Dark Knight movie, and yes, people didn't care as much when Batman Begins first came out, with most people realizing it existed after Dark Knight came out (at least in my experience talking to people). When people try to bring up the cool stuff Aquaman has done, they're either laughed at, told that those don't matter or count, or ignored in general as the people go back to watching whatever previously ridiculed show or comic they enjoy. Some things survive the fickle crowd that is humanity, and some things remain Aquaman. Hopefully Power Ranger will avoid this fate (but I only care until a possible Time Force movie is released, then my concern evaporates). |

There's a pic floating around that allegedly says the trailer will come out October 10.

All right everyone here we go first trailer

Whoooooooooooooooohoooooooooooo YEEEEEEEEEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
|
...meh. Looks like what I was expecting.
|
Looks really good. There are some cheesy moments like the fighting on train, but overall it'll attract audiences.
|
I'm excited and all, and I'm still not expecting a whole lot out of this movie when I go to see it, but that trailer wasn't half bad. Not sure I like the idea of them getting powers outside of the suits though, it makes the suits seem a bit redundant.
As far as the trailer itself, it needed a bigger Ranger punch at the end there, like maybe a quick full team shot? |
Remember the old Transformers: Generation 2 tagline to the first issue: "This is not your Father's Autobot!" Surprisingly applicable to more than fathers and Cybertronians.
THIS IS NOT YOUR OLDER BROTHER'S "MORPHIN' TIME" RANGERS!!! Each one isn't the poster child the originals echoed. Instead, we get the "social-outcasts-band-together" in much the same way as "The Breakfast Club". Will the principal get a re-do and keep yelling at them? This went out of its way to NOT GIVE ANY REAL ACTION OR SUSTAINED FOCUS ON VILLAINS!!! However, we do hear Rita say a "Not-the-same-cheesy-Rita-from-the-'90s" line which suggests that this universe, without question or fan-fiction, did have a team before the "originals". All that said, I KINDA LIKED IT!!! It has broad appeal and could do better than we expect. As odd as this seems, I think there is still a chance!!! |
Looks alright. I figured we wouldn't get a ranger shot.
|
Looks fine. I am sort of stunned that they are using a Breakfast club-eske set up to get these characters to know each other. But whatever.
I hope them learning their powers is a good part of the movie, because I think those are the best scenes in the trailer and would be really good character development. And Rita's implication of previous rangers... I assume it's Rangers from the ancient past that tried to fight her? And not just TV show continuity rangers? |
Not sure I like MM era Rangers having powers outside of their suits.
I know it isn't to bad, as they're weapons are likely still something they can only pull out from their suits (unless they go Heisei Rider's on us and just whip them out anyway), plus I'm sure that monsters hit harder than whoever that bully was, so the suits likely will be necessary if the teens with attitude get to cocky in front of Goldar. Like I've said earlier, I'll support this series till I get a Time Force movie, but this trailer suggests I'll like this movie just fine as it is. Though I am a bit tickled everytime I see some movie pulling off Spider-man "I got abs now" moment. |

But seriously, if this movie is successful, they're gonna keep using MMPR as long as they can. They'll probably use more than 3 movies to get through 3 seasons of MMPR equivalent material, given that there's some arcs within those seasons that they could specifically draw from (IE Green with Evil, Alien Rangers). Transformers is the perfect example of this, they're never gonna deviate from G1 stuff even 5 movies in. |
Quote:
I have no doubt that they'll extend the MMPR series for more than just 3 movies, as with no Tommy in sight in either this trailer or all the info released so far, they're going to likely save him for the next movie (you don't make a MMPR adaptation and leave out the Green Ranger, that shit got everyone jumping). But are we really pretending they'll not do Zeo or (as much as I couldn't care less), Turbo? Making a Power Rangers movie now is likely because of a few reasons. The first one is that superhero movies are hot right now, so get in while the interest is there. The second reason, connected to the previous one, is that studios want what Marvel has, the whole connect universe approach. To do that, it would be best to show the other teams, not just MMPR. Otherwise, why have Rita mention other (dead teams) if all we're going to focus on are Jason and crew? Unlike Transformers, where it starts becoming like Gundam with newer series being either alternate realities or remakes of the original series (the Armada Trilogy, the Aligned Continuity, even the Animated series that was heavily based off of the movies). Transformers is a shit example, because most series have tried to either just be their own take on G1 (like IDW's comic run or Platinum's Transformers Devastation), or just not stray to far from what the loud fans want (no one wants a repeat of 'Trukk not Monkey!!'). I'm not saying that their going to adapt Dairanger fully and do a Power Rangers Go-Busters movie adaptation, I'm not that blindly hopeful, but if they're planning to make money off of this franchise and the first movie does well, staying to long on MMPR is going to be the stupid move. Most people are tired of seeing Spider-man's origin for the upteenth time, the Wayne's death is now literally a montage reel (since Gotham premiered), and staying too long with just the first season of Power Rangers characters would even be lying, since Rocky and the others replace Jason, Trini, Zack and Kimberly before to long. Also Transformers is directed by Bay, who blew up Cybertron (their god and home) and hasn't hinted once to Unicron, the guy who would fill in seats no matter how done people are with Transformers movies. Comparing the two franchises isn't fair or accurate. You'd have a better chance if you compared it to Star Trek, since there's no talk of them doing Next Generation or Deep Space 9 movie-wise so far. |
I think with the movie, they could improve on the original show like better character development on the heroes and villains. I think MMPR is a pretty bad written show. Watching the show now is like drinking rotten milk that has been left out for many years.
For future movies, I think they could have Lord Zedd and Master Vile as bigger and serious threats too. |
Quote:
Powerman's right if this movie doesn't bomb like hell we'll just get more MMPR movies at best they'd eventually change the characters in the suits. Anyone thinking They'll make Zeo,Turbo,In Space whatever movies are deluding themselves. |
I hope we get at least movies for Zeo, Turbo and Space. Since in the original series those go along with MMPR to form a complete story. It just wouldn't be the same to me without it.
I doubt it'll happen though. |
I think the biggest problem with doing all the other series is that people will feel insistent they change up the cast. If this movie does well they certainly aren't going to just throw out three leads just because the source material deems it so.

I can see them adapting different seasons if it's popular, more toys to sell after all

The general public didn't know shit about Guardians of the Galaxy or Suicide Squad, but Guardians did great and Suicide Squad's fans both old and new still defend the movie regardless. People not knowing about the later bits of a franchise doesn't stop it from happening. As for changing the characters in the suits, doing so past Rocky and his group and not just making it Zeo would be stupid. People bitch when they change whoever Ironman or the Hulk is without even reading the comics, so it would be worse if a movie most people watch just chucked aside a kid to be the same Red Ranger each 2 or so movies if it's the same suit. The reason Hasbro and others focus on the first installment when adapting it is obviously because it's best to start at the beginning. The reasons why they don't go farther are different and varied depending on the quality of the adaptation. How much are the Michael Bay movies like G1 right now? (Autobots being hunted, no Autobot City, no mention of Unicron, Quintesson, Primus, so on). How similar is IDW's Transformers, now that Hasbro is going all shared universe with G.I. Joe and M.A.S.K.? Maybe I won't get my Time Force movie, but for this film to not make it to Zeo at the very least, it would have to be too shitty to continue on. Or are we forgetting that series like James Bond, Star Trek and Dr. Who thrive all the while getting new characters and actors regularly? |
