So much hype right now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsCSKgDRXeY |
I watched Grave of the Fireflies for the first time last night, and it was quite an interesting experience.
While I won't deny the film is bleak as hell, from the way people talk about it I was expecting the whole tragic element to lie on the fact it was set during wartime. However its just as much about human error, the cost of stubborness and the main character bringing a lot of it on himself as it is them being stuck in a difficult time period. |
Oreimo and Devil Survivor.

Just finished Shakugan no Shana Second. My god I love this show! It's definitely going in my top 5 favorite anime of all time. My list basically goes like this:
5. Shakugan no Shana 4. Solty Rei 3. FMA (didn't really care for Brotherhood) 2. Madoka Magica 1. Eureka Seven |
I'm watching my favorite anime of all time on Nick, Digimon. I feel like a little kid again watching it.

"It's the best movie that I never want to see again." Though, it was interesting to learn about it through Sage's analysis. |
Well, I know what I'm looking forward to watching. I'll make a diary of it... a future diary.

Just started Shakugan no Shana Final and all I can say is... damn.
To: Klonoahedgehog Let me know when you finish season 2, because there is an ova series called Shakugan no Shana S that takes place in between the two seasons and has an ending that sets the mood perfectly for final. |
Um... I think Nyaruko-San broke me...

Finished Macross today. Such a great show, but my god the animation is dated and I never realized how cheap they were at times. I mean, it seemed like they just didn't bother to animated every frame at times, making the movements look choppy and whatnot. The story is still so good though, I love how they developed the relationship between Misa and Hikaru throughout the entire thing instead of it just becoming an over night romance. My only complaint is how quickly Max and Milia's marriage was done though. I mean, he sits down to tell Hikaru they are getting married, Hikaru tells them to talk to Gloval, and then they are at their wedding. They should have spaced that out more as it just felt rushed and there could have been built up. I mean, why were Exedol and Britai watching it anyway? HOW were they watching it? Of course, you also had oddities like Kamjin being told the men were mutinying 12 minutes before they mutinied. Ooooooooooooooooookay.
Nevertheless, I love how the show was done as a whole, especially that the story did not just end when the Earth was blown up, we got what was essentially a 9 episode epilogue, which is a rarity. With that said, I'll probably watch DYRL on Friday, but other than that, I don't admit anything else related to Macross exists because they are all extremely subpar at best. Others, such as Frontier and Zero, are down right terrible. |
just finished "Mysterious Girlfriend X". it was...... something, but it was a good "something".

How exactly are the rest of them terrible? |

7 is just the same episode over and over again. Plus takes way too long to do anything and does not have any pay off in the end. I will say that the movie version is vastly superior to the OVA version. II feels like it should have been a 13 episode series condensed into 2 hours. I stopped watching Frontier after 5 episodes. It was the worst thing I have ever seen with the name Macross on it. The other problem is all of these series just don't fit with the original show. The Macross was destroyed at the end, and yet, sometimes it is still sitting there as if nothing happened. Exedol looks nothing like he did in the series in Macross 7. |

Look, I was bored to death and I don't recall anything about Protoculture in Zero. I recall them talking about a bird race, which was what they thought the Valkyries were, but that was about it. It was fantasy instead of Sci-Fi, which is what Macross is. Of course, it also didn't help that the episodes came out far far apart from one another, so that also killed my enthusiasm for the show.
I do agree that 7 is different, and I did like that. I did not completely hate 7, but there was no need for it to be 52 episodes with additional OVA episodes (although, the one with Jenius' other siblings was funny). Basara was cool, but he sang the same song for like 20 episodes straight. As for Frontier, maybe I'll give it another shot if it ever comes to the US, but I just have no desire to go out of my way to watch it. I just found the characters to be annoying, especially the girl who was worse than Minmay annoying. EDIT: Watching DYRL today and I don't really like that movie now that I've rewatched it. The animation is pretty awesome, but I hated the new designs of the Zentraedi and I hate how the movie just shows something and you really wouldn't know what the purpose of that scene was if it weren't for the series (such as Max and Milia meeting for the first time). I also don't like how they separated the Zentraedi and Maltrandi into difference races, and then for some reason had the Zens join with the Macross to battle them only to have Bodolza decide to attack the Macross at the same time as them when Britai and his crew just suddenly decide to help the Macross, uh... it's way too complicated. Honestly, the animation is the only reason to watch the movie, especially since the Valkyrie's look so bad ass. Of course, it doesn't help that Max and Milia are my two favorite characters from Macross and they have little to no screen time at all, and what little they do, makes little sense. |
I've started watching Avatar: The Last Airbender, keeping in pace with Doug Walker. It's really hard to not rush ahead, since the series is so good.

But the difference is that we don't treat "Toku" and "Tokusatsu" as 2 entirely different classifications.
I'm generally playing devil's advocate because I classify "Anime" and "Western Animation" as different (And so I can parade around saying I hate anime :p), but the lack of a proper definition rather irks me, because oversized eyes and stupid hair is universal, not limited to Asian animation :p |
So in short everything is Anime because it's short for Animation.

And there are a few examples of Anime that I like. But I honestly don't think you'd need more than 2 hands to count them all. |

Anyway, Gurren Lagann episodes 4 and 5: They were pretty good. The "Black Siblings" showed up, and I must say...Kinon is freaking cute. It was interesting to see someone almost as crazy and loud as Kamina. Episode 5...it was interesting to see that there's a group of people who worship Gunmen, and we got another Team Gurren member; Rossiu. EDIT: Episode 6... I AM KAMINA...KING OF THE ROCK! Yeah, it was just filler more or less. |
