And come on, Cadence is a god damn Alicorn for crying out loud! I thought the reason for Celestia and Luna being the rulers of Equestria was because they were the only two Alicorns in existence. If there are others, then who selected Celestia and Luna to rule? Cadence could've easily been a regular Unicorn, she really has no reason to be an Alicorn.

Take for instance the Grand Galloping Gala from Season 1. That was brought up and was very prominent in two episodes before the event actually took place. There's a sense of progression and that the Gala actually has weight to the characters and we know why they're actually going there. Maybe Twilight could've gotten a letter or something from Shining Armor every now and then in throughout the second season. I know Shining Armor and Cadence were created for the season finale, and while I do like them, that still doesn't excuse the fact that they came out of nowhere with barely much of a song to act as an introduction.

I know I'm sounding cynical but that's just my view on the issue.
