Not sure what your point is. I'm not an idiot, I knew it was going to be an AU retelling since it was announced.

But the fact is it's still a retelling, mainly to capitalise on the anniversary and therefore nostalgia. In which case, why the strip it of everything but the bare bones? Ash and Team Rocket are still around 20 years later, so why forgo the characters people might be actually excited to see return.

It's a matter of expectations.
Initial teasers led people on that it would be a retelling.
With the new trailers, we now know it's going to be more AU, with multiple cast changes.
So the people who wanted the abridged retelling, skimming away the filler and pointless plots won't get what they wanted to see, and interest wanes since now the cast is Ash, Team Rocket, and yet another bunch of movie characters that will never appear be relevant after the movie.

You have to remember though that alot of those 10-20$ carts online are bootlegs.

If those were legit carts 35$ isn't bad.

Also Emerald was a late Gameboy Advance game, a lot of those got expensive, same with the HGSS and the generation 5 games where they were released when the 3DS was coming out so they got expensive quickly.

Well it's been 10 years since Diamond and Pearl came out in North America. It's so hard to believe it has been that long!

Here's hoping we get remakes in the near future.
