Being super sensitive with spoiler tags here because I know someone else is watching Ryuki.
Kido just died. Uh, that really sucks. And it was really fucking sad, and I don't see how it can be undone. Ryuki, Zolda and Raia were the only characters I really, really liked. Like, that was really gut-wrenching. Really sad and well done, with Ren finally breaking his cold-hearted facade and being a human being, and it was sad. Like, that was on the level of W's second-to-final episode, except I don't see how this can be turned back. (and I kinda hope it doesn't) |
Okay, finished Ryuki, and I have a lot to say, so I'll spoiler tag the whole thing in case anybody reads it.
Let's just say as a finale, that was nearly perfect. NEARLY perfect. Why nearly? I think anyone who's watched it knows. What the fuck was with that ending? The episode itself was great bar a few tiny bits. As much as I ahte Asakura, that was an EXCELLENT way of capping off his "character." That's exactly how it should have been. Same with Kitaoka and Gorou. That couldn't have been better. I was actually getting choked up when I saw Kitaoka on the couch like that, Reiko still waiting at the resturant. And Gorou becoming Zolda was perfection. Though I'm not sure how that works, then again as we've established Magnugiga is a pretty laid-back guy (my he rest in peace) so I'll believe it. But that's who Gorou is. He'll do anything for his Sensei, even after he's passed on. Ren, as much as I found him unentertaining, really had a great "end." Yeah, it's an ERRYWUN DIES ending but it was really well done. Even teh sappy bit with Yui and Shiro, I'll take it. No, it's the actual end that sucked. The second we got back to the Ore Journal I knew what had happened. God. Dammit. You know, if anyone wonders why I'm okay with how W really ended, it's because Phillip came back under his own own power. Using established continuity and abilities Phillip has demonstrated, it seemed very plausible that he could use the Xtreme memory to return. Narrative significance aside, at least it made sense, which allows me to accept it. This... this was LITERALLY the reset button. It LITERALLY made the show pointless. Everything was undone, everything that happened, rendered moot. Everythign that was gained and lost just erased. The chess game ended and the pieces were put back. Nothign was achieved, nothing was learned or gained. What a load of shit. 19:13. That's the time in the Youtube video I was watching this episode when the the screen went black before it cut back to the journal. I'm going to remember that should I ever rewatch the show again, so I can have a proper ending. But seriously, overall? Ryuki is just okauy. When it's good, it's REALLY good, but when it's bad.... it hurts. The story is painfully drawn out, far beyond normal Rider fare, and the characters are hit and miss. Ryuki is alright, which isn't really a good thing to say about your main charatcer. But he was good, an idiot beyond redemption, his death was touching and he had good morals that despite adversity, ultimately he stuck to. Zolda is by far the best character. He's multi-layered, charming, dispicable, nobel, sleezy, humble and selfish all at once. He's really genuine and everything he does feels real. Gorou was the ultimate bro of all Kamen Rider. I seriously might get Figma Torque to represent him, since charatcers that awesome deserve plastic representations. Raia, even though he died long ago, I still remember as a strong moral character. He felt like Ryuki should have been. Someone who fights to not fight. He took that oxymoron of a motivation and made it seem real. Tiger was a greta villain, short-lived but very well realised as a mentally damaged self-styled hero. He wasn't cartoonish, he wasn't outrageous. He was almost tragic. He had these methods he was taught to use, but they never worked and only caused him pain. On the side of not so great characters, well, let's start with Knight. Knight was UTTERLY POINTLESS. Even in the finale he felt tacked-on. While he was annoying early on, he really just became bland, and even though he was good in the very end, it doesn't make up for him largely being an addition. Ouja... was the single worst villain I've seen in a rider show since the Phantoms in Wizard. There was NOTHING to him, he was just a bully and a really bland one. Nothign about him was entertaining, NOTHING about him was threatening. He was just dumb. The point of the character wasn't the proble, if you want to write and unstoppable rage monster, you can, but they didn't. They wrote a Gary Stu. A character who exists only for other characters to talk about when he's not around and do the impossible to seem "cool" and "badass." Though he went out perfectly, he was a huge dissapointement. Imperer wasn't bad, but he was also pretty pointless. Alternative was cool, and his story looked interesting... but then he died and we didn't get to really explore his family connection. The Kanzaki's were bad actors and I didn't like them. Ditto the Ore Journal crew. While I'm certainly not dissapointed I watched Ryuki, it gave me Zolda and Gorou afterall, it could have been so much better if it just stopped to think about how things should happen. I'm positive the end was mandated from higher up, but that doesn't excuse it. But still, Zolda and Gorou are some of my favourite Kamen Rider characters ever now, so overall I'd consider Ryuki a success. |

It's undeniably flawed, much like every Rider series, but it's a great series and one of my favorites. |
It really comes down to Zolda for me. Everthing else is good to okay to ew, but Zolda was a great presence.
The thing with Ryuki and Agito is, Ryuki didn't just faff about while building the mystery. Shit happened and there was a story outside the "mystery." Agito just had people run around and ask questions and never answering them pretending it had anything at all worth watching. |
And Den-O might be getting even better, other than the fact that apperantly Airi is now there for something more than be spaced all the time. Oh and Im pretty sure shits about to hit the fan.

I loved Kiva, time paradoxes and all. My only question is when did Otoya have time to procreate with Maya?

I know I ask this all the time, but I never get a solid answer: is Ryuki's movie (episode final) worth checking out? Is it good? Does it have a better ending? Does it do anything worth seeing?
|
Wataru gets no love because he's just boring to watch. Simple as that. He's a dull character. We've had whimpy protagonists (Den-O), we've had protagonists who were unsure of their ability (Ryuki), we've had protagonists who was unsure if their resolve was enough to solve their problems (Blade).
Wataru is just boring. And I'd say check out the Ryuki movies. They're not all that long, and you'll get to see the 3 remaining riders in action. |

It's a show that's worth watching, but don't go in with much in the way of expectations. Quote:

And I just finished Den-O. This was a great series, and I think Ryotarou might take Eiji's place as my favorite Rider. He grew more than Eiji did in my opinion. But man this was a great ending. Still have no idea what the hell purpose Kai served, but the fact that Airi has apperantly remembered this whole time is cool. And now to watch the Trilogy movies :lol

Starting in the Den-O and (about 5 minutes of) Decade movie, Ryotaro starts being played by the kid who was young Ryotaro in the new Den-O movies because his original actor wanted to move on to other things.
Additionally, only one of the Trilogy movies is about New Den-O. Episode Blue is New Den-O, Episode Red is about Zeronos and Episode Yellow is about Diend (from Decade). But it is better to watch The Final Countdown before the Trilogy movies. |

Lucker Clover is the best thing to happen in 555. It's kind of like Hibiki, but less painful. To Locke, yes, the Ryuki ending does the reset button the Japanese love to do, but that still does not mean the series was pointless. In fact, I'm more disappointed with the ending now than I was ten years ago because I did not know how much that ending is used in Japanese shows at the time. BTW, not related to shows, but I ordered the OOO belt an coin pack from AmiAmi earlier. I cannot wait to get it. Quote:

Don't believe the Wataru haters out there. He has some of the strongest development out of any of the riders, especially since Agito, as he goes from a whimp that hates who he is into a man who wants to protect those around him. He grows as a character, which is something ALL series should be doing. He is not an asshole like Decade. He is not an idiot like Shinji. He is just a shut in who learns to be outgoing. In fact, Kiva is completely full of great character development for nearly every main character. There are some issues plot wise, but the characters more than make up for it. |
I find it funny since I'm one of the ones who defended Kiva and was willing to stick up for the series as a whole. Now I'm labeled as a hater.
But there is no excusing Wataru. I found him dull to watch. He and Haruto are two examples of extremes. Where Haruto grew and evolved so slowly it was difficult to notice and hard to tell, Wataru just...Changed. One episode he was crying in his tub like a bitch, the next he was suddenly more of a man than King and didn't take shit from no one. It was jarring, it was contrived, it was boring. |

Alright I watched Blade 31-39 over the last couple days and here are my thoughts. King form is bad ass I absolutely love it. I love the intrigue with Kenzaki and him having too much power. Tachibana has been intriguing I understood his motivation and enjoyed there was a bit of conflict with him and Kenzaki with dealing with Hajime. Hajime is just one of the most awesome characters ever and I've loved his arc throughout the story so far and Wild Form looks amazing. Well the trials have been pretty cool and interesting, it's nice to see the story evolve. I am kind of tired of Mutsuki right now I'm still not figuring out if he is in control or if it is the Category Ace Spider. Still he has a very cool look. Can't wait for more. Also I love the second opening of the show.

Don't believe them, Wataru is one of my favorite characters and his development is amazing. Also he has two of the most awesome Rider suits ever. Also he has Kivat so your argument is invalid. |
Or you guys could let people form their own damn opinions.
I personally find Wataru's growth to be quite well done. I completely disagree that Kiva is a horrible show. But regardless of our own opinions, you shouldn't be trying to turn off those interested. Give them a chance to see what they like. Matrixbeast doesn't like Decade; this is well known. But as far as I'm aware he's not about to stop people from watching it. So give it a rest with Kiva already, Switchblade. It's rather tiring. We know you don't like it, but it's just your viewpoint. |
To be fair, there are four series in Toku that people should be dissuaded from watching. Decade, Goseiger, Dynaman, and Go-Onger. :-p
Other than that, I think anyone should be able to enjoy or suffer through any series out there. |
I actually encourage people to watch Decade. It's the perfect example of "Style over substance" and the perfect example of why you shouldn't let flashy action carry a show.

Jeez. Of all the PR series I'm rewatching, that one is just a chore to get through... |

Also, what's wrong with Dynaman? |

They are on the list, though. |
Well okay I might have said it wrong, all I'm doing is standing up for Wataru and like to add that Kiva is a great series that deserves a chance. Also I think you should watch Decade first then as you watch the other series you see how bad each episode really was. However Decade, DiEnd and Kuuga are great characters in Decade and it makes you want to watch other Kamen Rider series even if the episodes are horribly wrong.
