Yeah, I remember most of them getting destroyed by Neo Zeon, and I think there were some fake nukes in there too.

I've heard people complain how the repair of Gryps 2 in Unicorn creates a giant plothole in Char's Counterattack of "Why didn't the federation use Gryps 2 to destroy Axis?" But I don't think Gryps 2 would have had the power to have destroyed Axis even if the federation had lined it up in time. We see stuff like Colony lasers destroy fleets of ships,but those are miniscule compared to the layers and layers of rock and renforcement Neo Zeon probably put into Axis

Yeah, Industrial seven was weak enough to have its wall punctured by a MS meltdown, it wasn't especially robust like a giant ass solid rock would be.

Plus it was a static target, Axis was moving.

Also helps that the Neo Zeon was all conveniently gathered in one place, the Neo Zeong could have gotten eradicated in one shot if no one was able to stop it, and the Federation probably wanted to destroy proof of the box after everything.

"Probably" nothing, that's the entire reason they wanted to destroy Industrial seven. The box hadn't yet been made public, they were going to eradicate everything.

So I finished the Origin manga last week. The final volume was great, and a good end to a great adaptation. This manga really sort of ignited a passion for 0079 era I never really thought I had, but now I am much more interested in the One Year War, the history of the Zabis, e.t.c.

The only real problems I had with the manga were two things, which both came from the last two volumes funny enough. The bigger one was that whole segment with Sayla getting captured by Zeon and the head guys keeping the grunts from raping her, and when she revealed she was Artesia, oh now they respect her. I know it's realistic for stuff like that to happen, but seriously, there were no women in that entire cout de tat group at all to protect her or say something? It was just kind of out of place and demeaning, and didn't really show Zeon in an equal light to the federation. Gundam has done a good job of showing both sides as equally just and evil in their desires and how they achieve them, but in the context of this manga, Zeon looks a lot worse then the Federation.

The other is Char blowing off Kycilia's head, leading to an asinine chain reaction blowing up the fearsome Dolos. Although that came from the original show, but the author not taking time to change the scenario like he did for a lot of others was weird to me.

The 3 sidestories at the back of the book were interesting. The two after the OYW were okay at best, but I took a very deep interest in the one set in 0057. Granted, the scenario seemed kinda contrived, but it was interesting to see even further into the past of what the relationship between the Zabis and Zeon Deikun was. Degwin being head of the Zeon academy prior to Dozle in the Origin was an extra tiny bit of lore that caught my eye, but the Zabis standing up for Deikun when the investigators came was the highlight for me. Also, seeing more Sasaro Zabi is always fun since he's never around.

I see the parrallels but I don't think they're just Nazis in space. Okay, so Gihren is sort of like Hitler, zeonites say "Sieg Zeon" like "Heil Hitler", the Zabis kinda have that going on with how they dress, the spacenoids kinda have a superiority complex and maybe you could compare the quick work Zeon did early in the war to the "lightning combat" of the Germans.

The parrallels to me aren't just there for visual shorthand for "Look, evil people who are racist!" They take the parrallels and use it to make Zeon more distinct within its own world.

Tomino himself has said he based them off Nazi Germany*Char was inspired by the Red Baron,the colony gassings being based off Nazi gas chambers and the human experimentation* and that you weren't supposed to root for them. What he intended was for Zeon to have sympathetic characters to show not every soldier on the "wrong side" of a war is evil that most are just ordinary people.

Zeon itself being neutrally portrayed is just a fanon misconception Bandai's exploited to sell merchandise.

The only series that portrays Zeon and the Federation somewhat equally is 0083.

Well, this wasn't the beginning of an epic finale I thought it was going to be. Carta got herself saved.... again. By Galieo's fancy new Kimaris configuartion. How did all that water get inside of her cockpit though? And I wonder if she's in as bad of a state as Ein was given her being all bloodied up.

Though Ms. Merribit's concern over the kids getting so into revenge makes me wonder if it'll just end here or carry over to a season two. It's interesting, but I'll doubt she'll do anything about it considering there's two episodes left.

The most interesting thing about this episode was Ein. The mystery behind Ein's appearance makes me wonder if he's actually fused with this special Graze unit or that they're just waiting until next episode for the reveal of how many Alya-Vijana whiskers he has.

Either next episode will actually be that, or there won't be a major cliffhanger before the break. Gaelio saved nothing, fading eyes means death, the only thing he did was learning how expendable they are to Fareed. Her cockpit was damaged and the boosters of both mechs had started to melt the snow, when Mika is about to execute her you can see the Barbatos is wet too.

Unless she bites the bucket, yeah, it'll be season 2 material.

He seems fused, but if there's any way to get him out I assume it'll be some Thunderbolt level of missing limbs on his end.

People have been joking that Daryl and Ein are much closer to being Gundams then Setsuna ever was lol.

The one part where you just see the one blood splatter in the show where the dude's body was is just so dark and appropriate for the show. Barbatos is cruel. But anyone notice how the way the ice melts, it makes it look like Barbatos is crying?

Mobile Suit combat was designed to be extra brutal in this universe, and Mika's preference of blunt weapons makes it even worse. Barbatos and co being named after demons instead of something nicer makes so much more sense now.

It was a really efficient slap, Tekkadan wasn't the nicest group around, but the young ones had enough scenes acting like kids that one forgot about the heavier stuff. Now they reminded us how screwed everybody is.

Since Amazon upped the price to the Zeta Blu-Ray (it was $43 and is now $75), I decided to order the original Gundam BDs. This is the first Gundam purchase I have made since like 2011, I'm excited.

Cool! I'm saving up for Gundam X and my wishful 00 blurays, but I might pick up 0079 at some point since I've watched Zeta, the compilation movies and ZZ already, but never the full 0079 show.

But what about the smell?

Nozomi entertainment has said if MSG or Zeta Win, they will reveal the next Gundam series Right stuf is planning on releasing. Kinda want to find out what's after Gundam X and ZZ right now...

I'll eventually get the X DVDs, but right now I care more about Zeta and ZZ since they are two of my favorite Gundam series.

My only issue with the BDs of the original series is that they are missing an episode. I don't get why it is okay for the episode to be released on the Japanese BDs but not the American ones. It's a pretty good episode to. Sure, it isn't perfect, but it is far better than the episode where the bombs are hidden on the Gundam and the one where they have to battle over salt.

I think it's because Tomino said that one episode (15) was so bad, and he doesn't want anyone to see it. Granted, if Japan decided to include it anyways despite his best wishes, us Americans getting the version without the episode is weird.

Which like I said, I don't understand because it was a pretty enjoyable episode. Not to mention Tomino doesn't even know what qualifies as good or bad even if it bit him in the ass. I'll have to search for it to download at some point because I'd love to watch it again.

If Tomino were to throw out stuff that was clearly bad, he would have thrown out the first half of ZZ and all of Victory by now :p. Although he's disavowed Victory, he doesn't seem the same sort of power over it as he does with MSG episode 15. Maybe it's just because Bandai could sell new sets of Victory and keep the designs relevant compared to whatever unimportant stuff happened in episode 15 that won't sell them kits.

I think the guy deserves to leave the Gundam franchise off on a high note, so he could make up for the First half of ZZ if he directed some ZZ compilation movies with gorgeous new animation. Make the whole tone of the show like the second half, include some stuff about where Amuro and Char are during the Neo Zeon event, connect it better to Char's Counterattack.

...But I like Victory.

I hope Rightstuf fixes the episode numbers when they release Victory and make what aired as the first episode in its correct spot of being episode 4.

ZZ is one of my favorite Gundam series, so I think it is fine just as. The Zeta compilation movies are down right dreadful and cut out most of the good stuff. Not to mention it makes the motivations of certain characters unknown. As far as I'm concerned, all Gundam compilation movies are for those who don't care about story, they just want brainless mech action but can't sit through 50 episodes.

Char's Counter Attack is just a terrible movie no matter what. The only reason I own it and watch it is because it is the conclusion to the Amuro/Char storyline. It just is a shame they had to go out on such a convoluted whimper. Not to mention Char's sudden desire to destroy the Earth makes no sense.

Are you talking about the Seed compilation movies? Because they were still awful, but the only reason they were only slightly better was due to half the shows just being clip show episodes. :lol

The only downside to the Seed movies is we see less of the Strike before the aimbot shows up on the otherhand though the stupid soap opera drama and Kira's wangst is drastically reduced.

And The Destiny movies make it somewhat watchable.

I got annoyed so bad by the fact they choose to do TWO GOD DAMNED CLIP SHOWS in a row after leaving it off on a cliff hanger too...keep in mind, when I watched SEED it was on TV back in the 90s.

I didn't like SEED until I watched the whole thing on DVD. However, there is one thing I will say about it, the English dub is vastly superior to its Japanese counterpart.

I recall Seed air in the US around 2004 or 2005. I remember I just started High School when it came out.

Actually no, I don't think I've ever heard him cry in Japanese. I just prefer the English voices because I can't picture anyone but Zechs whenever Mu La Flaga talks, one of Kira's friends sounds like a 40 year old smoker, and Le Creuset sounds a lot more charismatic in English. That doesn't mean I don't like his Jp voice, as they both sounds similar, but I just think the English voice sounds a lot more evil. I also loved the Eng voice for Lacus better, and she is my favorite character, so that helps.

I honestly didn't mind Kira so much in the first series. In Destiny however, he felt forced in and was completely annoying.

For Gundam dubs in general, the only ones I like better in English are SEED and Unicorn. I don't mind the Wing dub, I just think it is inferior to the Jp version thanks to the constant changing of the secondary character voices. Plus, I'm not a fan of Zechs sounding like Batman. Oh, and it seems like they added someone saying "Damn" into every episode just for the sake of having it air at midnight as "uncut."

As for G, the name changes bother me, but if it weren't for that, the dub might be better. However, I just can't stand hearing Dark Gundam and Burning Gundam.

Oh, I guess the 08th Team dub wasn't terrible either, but it wasn't very good from what I recall. 0
