This time though, I've come to realize that I just don't have time to watch the Sentai series I like the most these days (I haven't watched Ginga, GoGoV, or Time since 2007) because I'm busy trying to rewatch the series I did not care for just so I can give them a second shot. Thankfully, I managed to finally watch the fansubs of Jetman-Kaku (well, up to 31) last year, so this year I need to watch the fansubs of Car-Time (and finish the Kaku subs). Oh, and I have been craving on rewatching GekiRanger since I also haven't seen that since it first aired. Quote:

I'm glad more people are starting to realise that. The amount of time when I tell people I dropped a show at like x episodes and they are like "But you only gave it x episodes, when you should give it X episodes, that is when it gets good!"
Not all of us are made of time, we can't just watch an entire fifty episode run of every damn series that catches our interest in the hope it changes our minds, and I think it's unfair when people give me crap - or any one else - for not liking a series and giving up the time they spent on that to watch something they actually enjoy. |

Attack on Titan is a perfect example. I've read the first 9 volumes of the series and it is great. So far, I have only watched the first five episodes of the anime, and the series is poorly paced at the moment. Yes, the good stuff really happened in Volume 2 of the manga, which starts in episode 6, but they were adding fluff and flashbacks from later in the manga into the first five episodes just to stretch it out instead of getting to the point of the first arc. Of course, there are series that do the opposite effect. The first half of a show might be down right fantastic, but then the second half dips so badly you wonder if the show was even worth watching in the first place. My problem with Sentai is that I want a series that does not play things safe, is not afraid to try new things, but to also make the new stuff interesting. Go-Buster had some great ideas, but played things in such repitition and had some of the most annoying characters ever, that the show was terrible. Kyoryuger, has done a combination of playing things safe while at least incorporating some good things into the show, while also having energy spread throughout the show. Tokkyuger, however, looks like they are playing everything safe and being as cheap as they can when it comes to designs. |

About the only show I've seen with a weak to downright crap first half, that blossoms into something beautiful, was OOO but I see that as the exception that proves the rule. Personally, I liked Go-Busters and hated Kyoryuer. But I also hate how each year sentai seems EVEN MORE child focused. I hate gritty, but sentai feels like it's practically on the polar opposite end of the scale at this point. Not to mention that sentai is so formulaic by this point, I honestly don't think they've tried anything new in about twenty years. |

For me though, it was Go-Buster, Hibiki, Kuuga, 555, Kabuto, and OhRanger. Kuuga was really only the last 2-3 episodes, but the rest varied somewhere from the last 10-40 episodes. |

So this is next weekend right? Any confirmation on who is actually doing this? Or will we literally not know until like this point next week?

The Preview for the first Episode looks really cool and I laughed my ass of when Raito was kicked behind the boxes :lol |
The more I see of this, the more I like it,but I'm still holding back on it.Like Locke said,I don't like Sentai to be too gritty, but every now and then it doesn't hurt.Sentai has become a formula.
I want to see a series like Gaim story wise, where it keeps pulling you in each week.I feel like sentai hasn't had that for a bit,and it's been almost Michael Bay-ish.They try to draw you in with the bells and whistles instead of what really matters, the story and characters.(Granted,Kyoryuger had some good characters, but the story was lacking. That and I kind of lost interest when the badass gold ranger turned out to be shy about making new friends, like comicly shy.I stopped watching right around then) Anyways,I do hope this series does ok,but I'm already interested to see what the series after this will be. |

Dont know if it has been posted yet but here are some Interviews with the main cast.
http://henshinjustice.com/2014/02/10...st-interviews/ |
I'm looking forward to TQG. It'll be nice to have a sentai series without a self-aware, genre-challenging mission. Gokaiger's mission was to examine and celebrate the franchise's past. Go-Busters' mission was to chart new waters and break from the past. And Kyoryuger's mission was to create an Ur-Sentai that synthesizes the genre's most successful tropes and presents them in a foward-thinking package. By contrast, TQG looks like it has less to prove -- there's no apparent effort to be anything other than The Next Sentai Show. Should be a refreshing change of pace.
|
I'm pumped because I have no real interest in sentai and Kyoryuger was supposed to be my brave new entry into the franchise as I could be in exactly the same place as everyone else...but then I didn't like that show. So I'm trying exactly the same thing here, and I hope I like it this time!

My advice is don't try to like it, don't expect to hate it and don't let other peoples opinions of it sway you in either direction. No use going into a show wanting to hate it, am I right? :)

Just read the cast interviews and noticed that Blue is yet again the oldest character. PLUS (3rd time in recent years by my count) we have a red senshi who's known almost exclusively by a nickname. Light, King, Marvelous...
I'm always interested in little trends like that :) |
I really like the trend of Blue being the oldest. Gives you the sense that you dont have to be in your teens or early twenties to be a superhero.

You also skipped Hiromu, not like I'm surprised anymore... |

Hiromu didnt have a nickname so why should he mention him? |

Yep, I said in recent years. I knew I'd be wrong if I said in a row. So I didn't say that :P
Do you know any people called Light, or Marvelous, or King? Well, I said nicknames because I couldn't think of a better short way of saying "names that aren't regular Japanese names". It doesn't matter whether we're supposed to believe that in-show people can be called weird names, my only point was to point out a trend towards giving recent red rangers funky names. Anyway, King is a nickname, he's called Daigo remember |

Yeah I know :) Regardless their backstories, that's a whole bunch of reds with strange names and all during the last few series.
Just an interesting trend is all. |
Arata/Alata is a Japanese name. The male lead of the manga Switch girl, for example, is also called Arata (as there is no difference between r an l in Japanese, both romanizations are correct). EDIT: Forgot that Kagami Arata from Kamen Rider Kabuto was also there. xD
The Goseigers all have Japanese names, though mostly very rare ones (as for Hyde, there is a singer with that name. Eri and Aguri do also exists. I haven't heard of someone called Moune, but it should be a normal name as well). So the exotic name stuff mostly just applies to Marvelous- because Raito seems to be a Japanese name as well. After all, we had a character in Kamen Rider W with the same name, just a different romanization. |
Quote:
EDIT: Moune is taken from French... I think ... |
Oh, I never said that they weren't unusual, but I just felt like explaining some background stuff as ShockerCon said the name was "weird".
It is true that Sentai has been into more unusual names for their Reds during the last years. Just wanted to add that Alata doesn't go with the trend of English words as names, such as Marvelous, King and Light/Right. |
