We all know that Power Rangers is just a branding for different groups of heroes that conforms to specific tropes, but the general audience doesn't know that. Power Rangers ended after season 1 or possibly up to Zeo for most people. And besides, I don't think mainstream audiences could take PR seriously enough in order for that slow growth of mindshare to happen given what from they remember of MMPR. |

Sure, they went to go see the 1st movie because they all like Iron man, but the way most people will tell you, the only movies of Phase 1 non-fans seem to like are Iron man, Thor if you really like Loki, and Avengers. That's 3 out of 6, only half of Marvel's initial shared universe movies were liked universally. Like you said, Marvel built itself up, but that means they didn't start with everyone trusting them, same as anything else. Let's not forget the fact that originally Marvel films, before the studio was made, were seen as inferior by a lot of people to DC's, besides Spider-man and X-men (though that mostly because all DC had were the Reeve's Superman, old Batman films and were in the middle of the Nolan series). Daredevil, the Fantastic Four movies, Elektra, no one talks fondly of those movies today (or feels okay doing so in public). If people's attitude towards Marvel can shift from :( to :) , then something as old as Power Rangers can do just fine, especially since people have been bitching for ages that they should do their own thing unrestricted from the Sentai footage (like it's only the Sentai's fault for some of the shows goofier moments). |

Has anybody else noticed the big metal thing in the cave with all the green energy around it? Are we looking at a possible Dragon Zord (since we've already seen Rita with the green power coin), or is this her prison she was trapped in?

The power coins reminds me the infinity gems.

I had a thought that the movie is basically the Power Rangers version of Kamen Rider Amazons, (obviously less violent though) and.....I'm okay with that
Then again I guess you could also consider it the PR version of the First and the Next which is uh.... |
I would say this movie could be the Power Rangers version of Kamen Rider: The First too. Both are a more darker and serious re-telling of the original TV series. Hopefully this movie will have way better action scenes than The First and The Next.
|
Except Kamen Rider has it's roots in darker, more serious storytelling with it's original concepts.
Power Rangers was lighthearted and goofy from it's very inception. |
Power Rangers has proven with RPM and Time Force that they can find a good middle ground to tell better stories without going full Shin Kamen Rider on us. I'm remaining hopeful that it can do the same with this movie.

I'm very excited for this film... I've been a fan since 93. I'm not one of those fans to bash change in a TV or comic movie. I go to a movie to be entertained. So far the teaser is getting good feedback and I'm very excited about that. I'm going to enjoy this movie because I'm a fan and I love the dark tone of the film. What works for TV doesn't always work on the big screen and let's face it... The zords in this new movie are gonna blow everyones minds. Can't wait for the full reveal of them!

Also, considering the Transformers movies, Pacific Rim, and a dozen other big budget Hollywood movies with rampant CGI exist, I can't imagine the Zords being anything especially mindblowing. |

Or if this movie continues it's pattern of ripping things off from other movies they'll just be AOE Dinobots. |
A nod to original Trini in Power Rangers 2017 trailer?
Anyone notice Trini's T-shirt at the end of the teaser?... Could this be a tribute to the original Yellow Ranger Trini played by actress Thuy Trang in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Becky G. Who is playing Trini in the 2017 Power Rangers movie is seen in the teaser wearing a 1973 shirt.. Could this be a tribute/easter egg to Thuy Trang in the film who was born in 1973?

[QUOTE=Yellow Ranger;641070]Except as noted in the post right before yours PR has done "dark" before...without going full 2edgey4me which is where this movie looks to be headed. Or if this movie continues it's pattern of ripping things off from other movies they'll just be AOE Dinobots. This is a new generation and why would I as a life long fan since 93 want the new film to be like the shows? What works on TV cant always work on the big screen and its about time that the rangers are moving in this direction. Today teens deal with bullying, and all sorts of issues and I like the fact that its in the film. Also I love the costumes. People need to stop comparing it to Iron Man. Iron Man sucks and is no Power Ranger. Your just one of those people who hate change and you think the "in thing to do" is cast judgment because you see other people doing it. If you are casting judgment, then don't look, watch, or see the film. You say "ripping things from other films" what did they rip? Because they wear mech suits? Oh so all of a sudden no one can wear a battle suit in a film because of Iron Man? Robocop? Please!!! People need to stop the bitching. Quote:

Personally I do not mind the techno-organic aesthetic they are pushing for cause it does look less like a spandex suit with a zipper on the back, but the suits could look better if they trim-down and go for a slightly more slimmer look and which is why I think the 1995 suits had the right amount of extra suit details. And also you gotta understand that the recent trailer alone sure felt like a mishmash of the Breakfast Club and Chronicle with a teacup spoonful of MMPR. |
So I went to the movies last night to see the newest Madea movie. In the lobby/hall area they had two of the Ranger movie posters. Blue and Yellow. I don't know if anyone notices,, but there's some kind of odd texture/raised print on the suits and armor. Not easy to explain. But the suits aren't flat armor suits.

What did they rip off? Well in order: http://www.themoviethemesong.com/wp-...-4-300x300.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...kfast_Club.jpg And Robocop even in the reboot didn't shamelessly rip off another character's design almost wholesale. As for hating change that's funny given my two favorite Ranger seasons are the ones that immediately followed the Zordon era. No I don't hate change I hate laziness also you're hilarious no I'm not hating because "it's trendy" I'm "hating" because everything I've seen and heard about this movie points to it being another lazy, soulless, generic attempt by Hollywood to cash in on both a brand and a current movie craze. |

Your rampant bitching over anyone who has anything remotely negative to say about the film is eye rolling, and if you don't have the time of day to respect one's opinion, why should they afford you that same luxury? |

The recent trailer did feel like a mishmash of the Breakfast Club and Chronicle with a teacup spoonful of MMPR, but that doesn't mean I define it as a bad movie from the get-go. |
Who is going to score this thing? What songs will be used? Is Ron Wasserman going to remix the original theme? Will any of the songs from the first two movies be reused as a nod?

Funny ain't it? The profile one, yes. I had posted it to twitter and about 10 minutes later (maybe shorter than that) was notified that I had to take it down. Which I don't get why when stuff like that spreads so fast AND it's not like they took down the video it originally came from.
|
Indeed, but whats also funny is that it only seems to have been on Twitter
|
Officially shown on the Power Rangers twitter

Even when streamlined, I don't like it. I hate the lack of a face, the scale mesh doesn't look too good, and it just doesn't have enough colors.
It doesn't look like a complete nightmare, and I'm sure it would look fine on screen, but it just doesn't do anything for me. |
The pink on the head looks ridiculous.
How does something with so little colour have such awful colour balance? |
The hands on its thighs look vaguely suggestive.
|
The smooth look of the action figure and not the combining one is exactly like how it's probably going to look in the movie. At least what I'm expecting now. And why they'd officially unveil that first.
We'll probably see a very indistinct, confusing combination sequence that zooms out into seeing just a giant man with armor elements that vaguely evoke the zords that formed it and really that's just because of colors more than anything else. |
