I just finished watching the Ohranger movie, and oddly enough, I loved it. This thing gets a lot of flack, but I think it's just misunderstood. The movie is sentai taken to an absurd extreme. It reminded me a lot of Richard Lester's Beetles movies from the 60s, in the way they consciously flaunt logic in favor of a parade of cool imagery and surreal situations. Like, it felt a lot like if Jodorowsky or Leos Carax were hired to direct an extended Sentai episode.
Plus, seeing Ohranger's consistently incredible action in Blu-Ray quality HD video is a treat. This movie is definitely not for everyone, but I found it highly enjoyable. |
I was pretty disappointed with ToQger Returns too. It had some really touching moments, but ToQ #7 was an utterly pointless addition, the new villain was mostly forgettable and the whole Tank Top Shadow thing seemed a bit dumb even for ToQger standards.
The 12-person roll call was SO GOOD though. |

Just started Go-Onger, and I'm loving it. I was a bit perplexed with the engines at first, but they're growing on me.
I have to say, now that I have a couple of sentai under my belt, the tropes are easier to spot now, and each series really has its own strange-ness to make it unique. I'm 4 episodes in, and I'm already loving how Renn is always making eggs, and Hanto is just so....fun loving??!?!? |
Up to episode 32 of Carranger and I am absolutely in love with this show so far. I love how its comedy is delivered and how the story is progressing. Signalman is one of my absolute favorite supporting characters now and the whole Carranger team is just so incredibly likeable.

Started rewatching Gokaiger.
Just finished episode 1. |

I'm on the fence about starting Carranger now or waiting until MFC finishes up Ohranger. I kinda want to wait to see how Ohranger ends before diving into Carranger, since it's such a reaction to that show -- but I'm antsy without any Super Sentai to binge! Argh! haha |

Started Gingaman this week.
Still very early days (just watched episode 7), but it's enjoyable enough fare. I was actually taken aback by certain plot elements in episode 1 that also cropped up when it was adapted into Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. Also getting some Zyuranger vibes off this as well, with a dash of Dairanger (that our heroes are essentially legacy warriors, and the latest in a long line to take up the title of Gingaman) |
Finished Carranger today and it was such a blast to watch. I loved the comedy and the characters so much and even when it got serious sometimes the show managed to pull it off very well. The ending was really touching and got a few tears out of me.

I definitely caved and watched the first two episodes of Carranger last night. There's stuff I like and stuff I don't (Dappu's voice is... grating). And while I definitely find the show amusing, it hasn't exactly made me laugh yet. Did it take a few episodes for you to get into it, Convoy? |

Carranger is a lot like Abaranger in a way. It is utterly redonkulous most of the time but the minute it decides to be serious, boy does it take a diver into serious land.

Yeah its a really big difference to the later episodes. Especially in regards to Green who is pretty downplayed in the early episodes. Later they really take advantage of him being from Osaka.

Seriously watch Abaranger, it is amazing. Besides, if you watch you get to see stuff like this!

All perfect reasons for why you should watch Abaranger.
|
Oh lord that looks amazing!
|
I plan to watch Carranger after I finish Ohranger. And then after Car, I will watch Mega followed by Ginga. I figured since I have them all subbed, I might as well watch them in order. I'm even doing the same with Power Rangers. I've left off on Zeo where I am at in Oh so I can finish them around the same time. I'm probably going to do the same with at least Turbo and In Space.
|
If I enjoyed Turbo as much as I did (That being infinitely more than the rest of the universe), then I might like Carranger.
But Abaranger looks like zany fun, too. I plan on going to a Sentai after I finish Kuuga, and I'm having a hard time choosing... |
Aba. Always go with Aba.
|
The first like 20 episodes of Aba are a rollercoaster ride. The tone gets serious, then zany, then back to serious, and it bounces around. It's a ton of fun.

Started watching Gingaman and I´m enjoying it so far. Its definitiely a Kobayashi show with its big cast of villains and being more focused on the characters and less on the bigger story behind it. It uses its nature theme really well and I like how it does its action scenes. Something I also quite enjoy is its rather slow pacing especially compared to Carranger or Megaranger who where the two shows right before it.
And just as a side note its kinda ironic that Hyyuga was supposed to be the Red Ranger when the suit actor for that role is Seiji Takaiwa :lol |
I felt like rewatching Kyoryuger and I'm on episode 29. I miss it so much.

Well I've enjoyed Kobayashi's shows. I especially love AOT anime, so Ginga should be decent, considering its a Toku.
|
Alright. Okay. I get it. Carranger episode 4, you've won me over.
This show is bananas. And I loved all the suit acting! I've never seen such a focus on the in-suit actors before. I really hope they keep that up. |
Theres a ton of Suit stuff in Carranger. The In-Suit Carranger are pretty much considered seperate characters for the most part. Since all of the aliens dont interact with them when they are not transformed.
|
I am stuck on Ohranger and Gingaman episode 10. I just haven't had the time to watch sentai.
I also still need to finish Battle Fever J, Carranger, and Timeranger. Love and Care is doing Turboranger and JAKQ, but those episodes are uploaded pretty slowly. But hell, it took Carranger like four years to get finished, so I can wait lol. |
Watched more Gingaman and I am continuing to enjoy it. Next episode is the debut of Bull Black so that should be fun.
One thing about the show I really like is the suit acting. The Gingaman move so unique its inredibly fun to watch. The animalistic movements are done really well and I like that they hardly stand straight when transformed. |
