I think my problem with Kira was just how god damned whiney he was. I mean your in a war for crying out loud, of course it's not always gonna be sunshine and rainbows.
God if anyone needed to be Bright Slapped, Kira is definietly the one. |

Then there's after Mendel where he wangsts about being a test-tube baby despite being a pampered happily adopted kid. I mean Christ Athrun and Shinn both had shittier lives and wangst less then he does. |
Frankly, I don't see any difference between Kira or Amuro. They're both annoying little ****s who deserve to be bitch slapped every episode. I also don't get why they are willing to bow down and be little bitches when they are only ones capable of piloting the most powerful weapon of mass destruction in the universe. Take that Gundam, kill them all, and set up your own kingdom.

Yeah that'd work real well until either Bright or Murrue puts a bullet through their head or the various factions decide that dealing with the psychotic pain in the ass takes priority over killing each other like in 00's first season. Brilliant idea there Double dumbass points if it's Kira since ZAFT has 4 machines that are the Strike's equal and once he gets his head out of his ass Athrun can mop the floor with him easily. |

Got my BDs today.
http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...psqz06qnwf.jpg I was shocked to learn when I opened them that they crammed the whole series onto 4 discs. I know its BD and all, but still. Also not a fan of the fact that $75 (SRP) sets are in eco-friendly cases. |

Like God damn, they stood up all night for those ones, didn't they. |
I watched Thunderbolt episode 2 yesterday and it was good. Wish they went into more explicit detail on Io and Darryl's backstories, anime-only viewers as of this episode are completely lost on Io's backstory of his father being very influential in Side 4.

Anyway, I watched the first five episodes of the original series. I forgot how slow things are until they get to Earth. On the other hand, it is nice to finally watch the show in Japanese with actual subtitles instead of the Engrish ones I watched it with about 15 years ago. Oh, and the remastering job looks and sounds incredible. |

And to avoid another Deathscythe Hell incident which was the exact reason God and Devil got changed. |
Forbes reports that in a Japanese poll on which manga should get an anime adaptation, Crossbone was one of the top most desired. This was out of ALL manga, so that speaks a lot to what people want. Good thing Japan wants this too.

Crossbone has a good design so I can see that although really the only one I have seen is the special custom version from Build Fighters

Yeah I can see why they changed tequila Gundam's name. That's not unnecessary, and that's totally necessary to appease censors. Also, I think they did get around the Deathscythe thing but simply calling it H instead of Hell. Cuz, y'know, profanity in toy aisles is another thing I can understand wanting to be avoided.

Do you see just how stupid that comparison is? Did you miss Toys R Us almost getting sued for selling Breaking Bad figures right next to the kids toys a couple of years ago? Most stores like to avoid being sued by angry parents. That typically means they like to avoid selling things that have inappropriate content for kids*like alcohol or swear words* to them. I don't know why this has to be explained to you. |
The whole Breaking Bad toy thing was stupid given that they also sell figures of Walking Dead and no give a shit. They are also made for the older collectors which parents should do more research on before bitching about it.

The woman who complained even said that was her problem not that the toys were being sold at all. People really need to stop kneejerking when this stuff comes up. |

Come on, dude, at least pretend to have experienced the real world. I'm sure it's cool on the internet to bitch about the system but in real life you can't sell toys with swearing on the package. It's called etiquette, it's something the civil world does to appeal itself to the broadest demographics possible. Quote:

Walking Dead is not even old. Walking Dead only came out a few years ago. Breaking Bad is not even that old too.

I watched episodes 6-17 of the original this morning. Things have finally started to pick up and I forgot how awesome Rambal Ral is. A shame I am nearing his end. I also have to say that I really enjoyed the episodes where some of the refugees leave and the moment with the mother and son was quite touching, especially when she finds out the truth about her dead husband's hometown. The episode with Icelina wanting to get revenge for Garma's death is still something that I wish had been done in the movie version, but it wouldn't work since that would require developing more than just Amuro and Char.

Bringing this back on topic, EX standard Destiny Gundam:

So when Unicorn Re:0096 starts up in 2 weeks, are we gonna have regular weekly discussions about it, or are we just gonna talk about it when there's a notable change?

IBO episode 24.
Holy shit, this was the most intense episode yet! I was clenched and on the edge of my seat the entire time. Graze Ein just killing 3 characters int he span of like, 2 minutes was the scariest, most intense moment this show has ever had. The lowering shoulder guns, the drill feet, that erie feeling when all the signs went out when Kudelia and Atra were near the parliament building, all just made this a perfect sequence. I wonder if he'll be carried into a season 2, or if he'll be beaten here and now. It would be an interesting twist if he got away and periodically showed up in season 2 just to cut Tekkdan down every once in awhile. . I don't think the animation/artstyle in the show is that great, but the way Ein moving around like how an actual person would, not just some clunky large machine, sold me even more on his fusing with the suit being the "True Alya-Vijana". And Carta's dead.... Poor Galeio, having to fight Mikazuki multiple times, only for him to get rekt worse and worse. And now he has to fight McGillis in the Grimgerde, who will most likely wreck him. I did not expect Eugene and the others to show up to help the mobile workers get through, but then again, I don't think the writers would have left a decent chunk of Tekkadan sitting out for the finale. If the show was this amazing all throughout, this would be the best Gundam show, hands down. |
So I just learned that IBO is pulling the two season bullshit. Glad I haven't bothered with it yet then. I'll just wait until the whole thing is completed before I bother.

You could've just said two seasons. Though I don't disagree with wanting to watch it all at once. It watches better like that or in chunks until the later eps, as it's easy to forget small details in the week between. Though recently even week-to-week it's still really good, probably because the action's ramping up. |

Aldanoah Zero is a perfect example of a series ruined by splitting its story telling up. The first season was great but the second season felt like it was done by an entire different team because it just flat out sucked. It didn't even feel like it was the next episode, it felt like an entirely different show. Code Geass suffered from the same problem. |

Lots of shows have two seasons, or more, and are just fine. Especially when IBO has so much left to tell. |

Also, we've known that IBO's getting a second season for months now.... |
I watched episodes 18-38 today and some of this show is quite disjointed. The Ramba Ral stuff was great and I love the way they ended it. I do like the build up to Odessa Day and I like that it felt like there was a lot more going on with it. In fact, I'm surprised out of all of the OVAs and side stories they have done, they have never gone back to cover every aspect of this event. The stuff in Jaburo is meh but things get really good again once they get back to space. The battle with M'Quve in the Texas colony is awesome and I liked having an episode dedicated to talking about the New Types and introducing one, even if he is there to die at the end of the episode. The only aspect I don't understand is the G Fighter/Armor/whatever portion. The concept doesn't really make sense to me and it seems overly complicated as to how it is executed. Not to mention they suddenly have two G Fighters after Side 6 even though nothing was ever stated about them acquiring a second one. Anyway, I plan to finish the series after Better Call Saul.
EDIT: I just finished the series and wow, they really saved their animation budget for those last episodes because the animation got so much better. As did the action. As I said before, I haven't watched the series in 15 years and I am so glad I got these BDs. In fact, there were things I enjoyed so much more this time around that I did not initially. Overall, that was a damn good show. It has its negatives, its oddities (such as Bright having a different voice in one episode), but the majority of it is positive and for that, I give the show an overall score of 7/10 stars. Now I need to get through 08th MS Team and 0083 before my Zeta BDs arrive. EdiT 2: I downloaded and watched the Doan's Island episode and I still don't see any reason for Tomino to ban it. Sure, its animation is bad, but it's not like the rest of the series didn't have bad animation (such as the sword floating next to the Gundam's arm but there is no hand while the Dom explodes and the derpy eyes on various characters). And then you have moments like Zeon soldiers setting bombs up on a Gundam and stuff. The ending might be kind of dumb, but that is no reason to say this episode is bad. Once again I'm under the belief that Tomino just wanted it banned from the US because he wanted some attention in the news. Edit 3: I watched episodes 1-9 of 08th MS Team today. Not only that, but I watched it in English since I'm kind of subbed out. The show itself is pretty enjoyable but the plot seems to be moving way too quickly without any pacing. It starts off after Garma's death and now they are already done with Odessa Day. WTF? Shiro is decent but honestly, some of the things happening make no sense. Unfortunately, the show really takes a down turn after episode 8 becuase episode 9 makes no sense. Shiro has an entirely new mobile suit. He never got disciplined or anything for breaking his court martial and helped Kiki's village. And Eledore is back on the team without even a mention of him returning, he is just there. I've never understood that and if I recall, this has always been the point where the show lost me. We'll see what happens when I watch the final 3 episodes. Oh, and the love story between Aina and Shiro just came out of nowhere. He might have been thinking about her after their first meeting, but he just goes out and yells that he loves her the second time they meet and she just happens to fully feel the same way is completely forced. I think that is why I rarely ever watch this series. Oh yeah, the dub itself isn't bad. It isn't the greatest dub ever, but the voices are good enough. Edit 4: I finished the last three episodes and boy does the ending suck ass. First off, episodes 10 and 11 barely make any sense as Aina's already lacking in the development brother just suddenly decides to kill everyone out of the blue for no reason other than shock value. Then you have Shiro, who is just completely out of character here. It also doesn't help that there was barely any character development to begin with and you have the makings of an average series. Like I said before, now I fully remember why I only watched this show when I was doing a full-on UC viewing. The final episode feels tacked on and unnecessary because it was so pointlessly boring. What really kills it is the sudden realization that those kids were ghosts that somehow manifested into physical forms. Ugh, just making me think about it brings in frustration. I have no idea what happened on the production of this show, especially since it was an OVA series, but whoever was in charge dropped the ball during the last four episodes of the show. A shame to because the animation is fantastic and the music is quite good. Edit 5: 0083: Spent the blizzarding cold winter day watching the whole thing. I've seen it before, but haven't watched it since 2010 and this is probably the most I have ever enjoyed the show. I don't know why, but the pacing seemed to be a lot better this time around than the last few times I have watched it. Of course, that doesn't fix the big issues, Uraki's bland nature and Nina's selfishness. Uraki is pretty much a boring main character as he shows very little emotion and cares for very little in the way of anything unless the plot calls for it. Nina is a selfish brat that should have died. The best characters are easily Gato and Cima as they were the ones that either had some nice development and/or were just fun overall. Cima might have been a treacherous bitch, but she was psychotic and full of personality. Gato is pretty much the same way, just without the insane nature. The story does get a little weird though as if there was a scene missing where we saw Cima make a deal with the Feddies, but that aside, it was a decent show. The colony drop could have been cool if they had actually shown the impact it caused and the Nightmare of Solomon bit is the highlight. That aside, it does suffer from prequel-itis as everything is just going through the motions to get to the way things are for Zeta. As a whole, I give it a 7/10. The animation is nice and smooth and the battles are well done. Not to mention the music is great. Well, now I just need to wait for my Zeta BDs to arrive, which just shipped out this morning. |
