Eureka 7
So Yeah... I binged the end of the show and..... it was really good but confusing. I was actually really getting into the show in the late 30s when shit went down with Dewy and we got some really really good fights and conflict. But then Eureka and Renton and those shitty kids went to Earth and sat on that beach for like 3 episodes. If those kids weren't there, I felt I would have enjoyed that arc a bit more. Anemonie finally not being a sporadic bitch and Dominic admitting he loves her came out of nowhere, but I'm okay with it since their relationship was kinda fucked up anyways. But The End turning white and good out of nowhere was kinda cool. My problem with the ending of the show and just in general is that shit seems to come out of nowhere. Like the ending. Where Renton and Nirvash go to Eureka and save here, I thought Renton and Eureka were going to join together. Would make sense for the story right? Nope. Nirvash is like "Don't worry guys, I got this shit, we'll move to another universe." Just like that. And it is terribly confusing at points. Without looking up a wiki, I was confused as to what essential stuff like the Summer of Love and the Limit of questions was as the show just half hazardly explained this crucial lore. And now I've been hearing there are multiple branching timelines from the endings? And AO has some time travel BS? Good grief. |
You're better off just ignoring AO. It's dreadful.
A lot of people think the movie is too, but I have a love for AUs so I kinda like it (plus it was my first exposure to the franchise). It horribly twists a lot of the characters though in pretty unforgivable ways. |
Any recommendations on anime I should watch next. I need another really good sci-fi mecha show I can sink my teeth into, but looking up stuff online, it doesn't seem like any of the other big hitters I'm interested in (Macross mainly) are available for streaming on netflix, hulu or chrunchyroll

Since you've finished Eureka 7, you should watch Eureka 7 AO. It's basically a sequel to the first show. You'll understand when you watch it.

I've heard bad things about Aldnoah Zero. Particularly about the second season, but I've also heard things about the original show, but one thing about it being weirdly yaoi focused for some reason....
Should that stop me? OR does your recommendations override it? |
So that's a no for Eureka 7 AO?
|
I seen the first three episodes of Aldnoah Zero and I liked them. It's from Gen Urobuchi, so it should be good.

Code Geass is one of the common suggestions, political intrigue with rather realsitic mechs (at least in S1) and some supernatural elements for a fun and unqie ride. If the idea of a crew of Super Robot loving goofballs stuck in a down to earth Real Robot show sounds fun to you, check Nadesico, it's both a deconstruction and a love letter to the mecha genre as a whole. It's more of a personal tale between two test pilot rivals, so the backstory of the franchise is largely irrelevant. |
I enjoy Macross Frontier and 7, but that's just me. Macross 7 is the first Macross show that I seen (not counting Robotech).

Frontier however, I just love it, can't even be objective about it. |
a good mecha series you could check out, if you haven't seen it, is Big-O.
Big-O is a great series. gotta love big romantic metal piston fist mechs. http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view1/341...o-piston-o.gif |
I like Big O, but I never like how it ended though.

they wanted the American audience to enjoy it and they succeeded. they said they didn't care if the japanese audience didn't like it.
and I like the ending. |
Big-O reminded me of a cross between Batman/Bruce Wayne and Gundam.

Although the mech portion has origins closer to Giant Robo, and Daitetsujin 17. Series creator, Keiichi Sato, wanted Big O to look and move like a tokusatsu suit. Solid and sluggish. |

Anyway, I always saw the series as more like Batman meets Dark City rather than Gundam. |
Yeah, but considering the fact that Big O came out when those kinds of endings were still a new thing, I can give it a pass on that.
Also thanks for spoiling it after I recommended it. :/ |
So I got my weekly anime towatch. The disappearance of nagato Yuki episode 11 subbed and episode 3 English dub. I also got fairh tail my teen romantic comedy snafu food wars and is it wrong to pick up girls in the dungeon nanoha vivid and arc-v to watch today.

Shirobako episodes.

If I'm not mistaken, Big O is one of those animes that did better in the West then it did in Japan much like what happen with Voltron, Sonic X and Dragon Ball GT?

big O came out BEFORE Wolf's Rain AND Rahxephon...
also, paying to air a series dubbed is probably a lot less expensive than paying to have the series MADE. |

nor does every series get to have the budget to do that.

Oh god Rahxephon. The first anime that I rented from Netflix and it was horrible. One of the worst animes that I've ever seen in my opinion.

Noir, RahXephon, Cowboy Bebop, Madlax, Fullmetal Alchemist, all Gundam series until 00, Ecaflowne, Macross, Macross 7, Speed Grapher, Golion, Dairugger XV, GaoGaiGar, Mythical Detective Loki, Trinity Blood, Gankutsuou, and many many other series for decades had no issues with doing the full 26/52 episode run with no problem. Why is it suddenly an issue? Did their balls fall off? Hell, computers have made it easier to be lazy with the animation, so it's not like they have to actually animate anything with skill these days to warrant this method. |
it got more expensive to make them.
like, you're gonna say no. but yes, it did get more expensive to make anime. you think that just because it's not hand drawn it's cheaper to make? no. you gotta have a large team to make it right. larger teams mean more mouths to feed which means more money they have to be paid. and yes, you have to animate with skill! why else would anime have so many fixes and shit from TV to Blu-Ray? did you not see the differences in the BlazBlue anime? how lazy some stuff was? how lazy some stuff is now? you still need to put effort into animation! like, what about it being digitally animated makes it easier? you still gotta draw the phrames! it's not like there's a fucking animate the thing button! |

Ok just finished the first two madoka movies. First off I was just planning to watch the third due to me watching the 12 episode anime while back but I thought why not watch all three film. First two I be given my thought as it as a hole movie not two parts. I can say I feel like madoka was ment to be an anime movie from the start and not anime first. The story flowed to me really well pasing was great story came threw. I'm so happy I pre order double pack blu ray by manga entertainment for the first two film due to animatsu hot the third film distribution right in UK.

I'm sorry, but I call shenanigans on that. Series need to either be 13 or 26 episodes and air the entire series in one go without a break and without leaving it off for another season. God, I hate that Japan has taken the worst aspects of American TV into their culture. |
