Because 'monkey' is often said to black people as an insult. It isn't a new thing either and I STILL can't fucking believe Marvel's Iron Fist series on Netflix thought it was ok to have Danny Rand call a bunch of black people monkeys when training them martial arts as that show already had enough controversy about racism.
