I was well and onboard with Sword and Shield until this bullshit with Pokemon compatibility. Game Freak needs to be stopped.

Yeah, the team homogeneity thanks to power creep and everyone sticking with the same 10 Pokemon (and one or two wildcards like the Dragonkiller Pachirisu) for generations was soooooooo good.

You're severely underestimating how little me and probably most other people bummed out by this decision care about competitive team variety. No offense, but christ, who gives a fuck. Even with a more limited roster, teams are still just going to gravitate towards a small pool of viable Pokemon anyway, the homogeneity is unlikely to change, just what it's composed of. So legitimately, I couldn't care less.

I think it's generous to imagine the decision had anything to do with trying to balance the meta rather than lazyness or incompetence in the first place. It just sounds like Game Freak's unreasonable need to pump out new games year after year (resulting in dropped features left and right) has caught up to them, so the only thing left to drop to fit their time crunch was the Pokemon themselves.

It's not about Charizard as a Pokemon, but my OG Zard from '98. Motherfucker is still stuck in my copy of Gold (Which, at this point, has probably had it's battery die :lol)

It's not complicated. People are annoyed because it's a stupid and regressive move. Up until LGPE, every game had every Pokemon represented in its game code, so that even if they weren't catchable (and in the case of Gen 2 -> 3, transferable) you could still use anything you wanted if you brought them over to your game. Now you're barred entirely from being able to use any Pokemon they decide not to include in the game's Pokedex. It's an anti-player move because it limits our options, and there's no good reason for it, because it's only happening because they're rushing these games out and they apparently just don't want to bother.

The kicker is with the Pokemon Home thing they're doing, since you can transfer any Pokemon to it (a one-way transfer) but if they're not in Sword and Shield you can't transfer them there. So they're charging for a storage system where potentially hundreds of Pokemon would just be stuck indefinitely until they deign to include them in some other game years down the line.

Those never fucking work and if they get off their ass and fix it then it certainly isn't because of this
