From my perspecitve, it's not that they're not available, it's that they'll never be available. Unless GameFreak pulls a DLC for something that's always been in previous games, which is a scummy tactic anyway, they just won't exist. Even if they were to release, say, a Sinnoh remake, you couldn't trade/battle across games properly because the models just wouldn't exist in Sw/Sh. And when those models don't even look that different to S/M, it seems odd. Doubly so when they've kept every pokemon useable for literally every game in the past, including the big upscale to 3D in X/Y.
Plus, I don't think this is just a "Wah wah Sword and Shield won't let me play as Mothim" problem, as some of you sem to think it is. It's indicative of people getting slightly sick of Game Freak's practises as a whole. They introduce a feature, only to remove it two games later, and this is the ultimate form of that. Replacing Mega-Evolutions with Z-Moves, and then both entirely with Dynamaxing is just punishing people who've played the games for longer, as what they might enjoy is phased out for something which itself is gonna be replaced by something else in a couple of years. And now deciding that, unless you mod the games (and I have no idea how hard it is to mod a Switch), you just won't be able to transfer Pokemon and play as them, full stop. Want to see, say, Volcarona on the big screen? Maybe not, even if its one you've been transferring forwards for 10 years now. Plus, we all secretly know it's gonna be the enteirety of Gen1 kept, and a sprinkling of everything else, because that's how GameFreak works, which might annoy me more than anything else. Does this mean you shouldn't buy Sword and Shield? No, do what you want, and some bits of this game do look good. I want to like it, but at this point, I'm tired of games just throwing out features that have been around for years. I'm not even angry, just kinda sad and resigned to it. But calling fans "entitled" for wanting something that's been in literally every previous game, in a game that's gonna make millions no matter when it releases, is a bit snide. |
Being disappointed that the national dex is gone is not being entitled. The extent to which the fans have been taking it to, from harassing employees, to the nonstop petitions, to the boycotts, however, is.
Concerning the removal of features, I'm not defending it. I'm just as bothered. However, I do feel it's being blown out of proportion. Z-Moves were a bad mechanic to begin with, and while losing Mega Evolutions is disappointing, it was inevitable. The common point for Mega Evolutions is that it gives weaker Pokemon a chance at being better, but since they're also giving Mega's to numerous stronger Pokemon as well, it then devolves into "Why run Mega Beedrill when you can use Mega Pinsir instead?" Taking into the consideration of not caring about the meta game, then yeah. It just sucks for everyone, doesn't it? We all want everything to come back. It would make the games for a much more fulfilling experience, but Pokemon does things differently. We've all known this. Sometimes you can't hold on to everything. 9 year old me had to let go of my original Charizard when I started Ruby. Adult versions of us will have to let go of whomever so we can experience something new. It sucks, but much like bug catching in real life, sometimes you gotta let things go. If Sword and Shield are the straw that broke the camel's back, so be it. If people are so upset that they'd rather see the franchise fail because of it, then let it burn. |

It's kind of obvious that the original Kanto pokemon are returning. There's a reason they exclusively got Alolan forms when the more European Pokemon would've made more sense :lol

Same thing with Primarina. Yeah, maybe the starters wouldn't be available normally in the game, but you wouldn't even have to rely on events or anything of the sort. You could easily transfer them in. Even if you personally wouldn't, anyone else who wanted to could. You could trade with friends, the GTS, anything really. You would be the furthest thing from shit out of luck if you wanted to see Primarina on the Switch. You probably unequivocally are now, though, since nobody could do that even if they wanted. Quote:

To me this points more towards huge problems in Game Freak itself which are just starting to show themselves more as deadlines increase and they're dealing with much larger hardware shifts than the likes of Gameboy Colour to Gameboy Advance, on top of an ever-expanding amount of content. A company which refuses to expand beyond less than 200 employees yet expects them to bring out main games every year to meet a holiday season, including working on a home console game when none of those employees during their time at the company haven't had any experience on something more powerful than a 3DS? Tell me that's not going to implode at some point.
I genuinely feel more and more scared for GF employees the more I think about this situation. Much as I'm sad I likely won't see some of my favourites like Decidueye or Staraptor back; nor great interesting mechanics like Z-moves or Mega Evolutions, at some point I realise that that's the least of my worries with this scenario. |

[QUOTE=Spearichu;740878]Are you a bug type trainer? ... I didn't even realise what I'd done. |

Borrowed Let's Go Eevee from a friend.
I'm enjoying this way more than I thought. I think it actually might just be a better entry than the 3DS games. |
