Hence why I count the 90s Sentai as Jetman through Timeranger. |

Megaranger was always kind of hitting that point of just "Average" for me. It wasn't mind numbingly boring, it wasn't jaw dropping amazing, it wasn't offensively bad, nor was it praise to the rooftops grand.
That's actually a bit of a detriment to it, in all honesty. I class it with Dekaranger in being so astoundingly average that it fails to leave a lasting impact on me. Not bad enough to make me angry, not good enough to make me care. It was also the first situation where my favorite character was also my least favorite character, so it just loves hanging at that crossroads for me :lol |

If I had to pick a 2010 favorite sentai...I don't know if I can. Maybe I am just waiting for one to really jump out at me. I have liked all of the ones so far, pretty much the same |
Oh, I like this topic.
My favorite of the '80s is Maskman, by default, as it's the only '80s sentai I've seen. But overall I'm not a huge fan of it. My favorite of the '90s is Jetman (even though it feels more akin to '80s Sentai than any '90s Sentai that came after it), but it's close. I freaking love Kakuranger, Dairanger, and Carranger too. And I still haven't finished Mega, Ginga, or GoGoV, so this could always change. (But honestly, I don't foresee anything upsetting Jetman from the top spot... I just love that show so much.) '00s Sentai is kind of a weak spot for me. I've only seen Magiranger, a little bit of Abaranger, and Shinkenger. Shinkenger is the easy winner of that decade, from what little I've seen. Obviously '10s Sentai is still ongoing. I love love love Gokaiger, so that's the current one to beat. As for the nitpicky time stuff... I think we measure decades differently than we do millenniums/centuries. Decades are less formal groupings. Like, yeah, 2001 is when we enter a new millennium. 2101 is technically when we'll enter the 22nd Century. But for decades, I've never heard anyone be like, "1990 man, that was the best year of the '80s." That just doesn't make any sense when we informally refer to decades as "The '70s, '80s, '90s, etc..." |
Gingaman is another amazing Sentai. Only thing is that if you thought Megaranger was boring(I didn't) then I'd think you'd find Gingaman even more boring(it has a slower, more storylike pace).

I still really want to watch Gingaman though, I love the designs in that series. |

If you ever rewatch Megaranger wait until a shiny man shows up to really enjoy the series. |

Anyways, just watched Ninninger 24. Probably my favorite episode of the series so far. I love amusement parks and classic monster movies, plus I really liked how there was a ground battle going on at the same time as the mech battle. There are other things I liked, but those are the big ones. I just thought it was an all around good episode |
You really should give Gingaman a watch. It's one of the best ones of the 90s era and has a really compact, intricate, and entertaining story with interesting and well likable characters. The Budoh/BullBlack arc especially is just fantastic.
|
I mean I liked Lost Galaxy as a kid so...
|
I actually watched Ginga for the first time earlier in the year after doing a re-watch of Lost Galaxy, and it was pretty fun seeing the similarities and differences almost immediately after finishing one of them.
|
I think that's part of what made me like Zyuranger so much when I got into the series, or at least why I had trouble getting into another series when I finished. I liked seeing the differences between the two. I either don't remember or never watched the others enough as a kid, so going onto other shows I don't get that. However now that i've seen more shows I'm starting to like seeing the differences between each individual sentai, which makes up for it.
I need to stop mentioning this every time I discuss sentai lol |
If you liked Zyuranger your going to like Gingaman. Gingaman does a lot of what Zyuranger did, and expanded on it. It also removes the focus of the random Kid of the Week plots and replaces it with one kid, Yuuta, who they handled fantastically and didn't make him that annoying little kid, but as an ally to the Gingaman. He's one of the best kid characters in Sentai.
Goseiger would be another Sentai to watch if you liked Gingaman, there are a lot of uncanny similarities between the series. |

I'm a little hesitant to watch Magiranger or anything from that time period, simple because that's around when they were realizing they could make the mech battles entirely CGI and I'm really not a fan of CGI mech battles in Sentai. Part of why I actually like Ninninger is how they went back to using a lot of suits.

So I group them in their own group, similar to the Vehicle Sentai(Turboranger, Carranger, Go-Onger) Martial Arts(Maskman, Dairanger, Gekiranger) and Ninja(Kakuranger, Hurricanger, Ninninger) |
Watched through the first 10 episodes of Jetman now. So far I have a good view on the series though the filler episodes have been hit or miss for me. I liked the episode with Ryu's grandma especially how she stood up to the monster, I just love badass old people in shows and the cup ramen episode was good as well.
On the other hand I did not like episodes like diamond one or the one where they introduced the mechs and Jet Icarus I think it's called. I didn't think the mechs were introduced well, they just showed up and one thing thing that confused me was how in the beginning of that episdoe they said that all the jetman and to be synchronized in order to form Jet Icarus, yet later in the episode they were able to form it without Ryu. On the character side other than Ryu's grandma I have to say my favorite character is Raita I like the humor he brings and his tendency to through rocks. One issue I have with the character development so far is that it's all romance related. Aside from Ako though she hasn't really developed yet and the only thing I know about her is that she likes diamonds. Not to sound negative like I said I am liking the series so far it just has some flaws, though there is one more thing that really bugs me. Why does it take the Jetman so long to actually morph!? I mean there were a number of situations they were in that could have been solved by morphing. Oh and so far I counted 5 groin attacks. |
Something to be aware of is Jetman's infamous love triangle. While the characters do grow some outside of it, Ryu, Gai, and Kaori's growth is mostly related to it.
Also, I love Raita. Super human that can fly with a large arsenal? Chucks a rock :lol |

I loved it as I was watching it. Now that I finished it though, my overall impression of the series was that it was just okay. |

I love how Raita's motivation for helping the team is that the villains blew up his vegetable garden.

Saw a random episode of Kakuranger recently.
Boy they sure loved to grunge their wardrobe. Only in this show can you wear a denim kilt like Sasuke while sporting a shirt Budnick from Salute Your Shorts probably wore: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SszKaFXkW5...1.10.02%5D.jpg |
Question about Kakuranger. Does Jiraiya speak mostly English through the entire series? That actually bothered me through the 9 episodes I saw.
|
He transitions to Japanese soon, don't worry :lol

I watched the first 10 episodes to Dairanger today and it was so awesome and weird watching an officially licensed DVD subtitled. For the most part, Shout's subs are great, but my personal preference for spelling Kirin is just like I did it while Shout spelled it as Qilin.

GoGo V is great, guys.

I have made it through the first 13 episodes of GoGoV and I am still enjoying it. They have kept up the rescue aspect of each episode, while also advancing the story in regards to the villains, rangers, and mentor. This sentai feels like it is building to the debut of a sixth ranger, but I know that is not going to happen. Still very enjoyable though.
Through 30 episodes of Ohranger and King Ranger has shown up. He is a real badass and Dorin basically bosses him around. Pyramidder in battle mode is fucking huge. Like Serpentera huge. I don't remember it being that big on Zeo, but maybe it was. Oh well. The episodes are little less...out there, but the story has seemed to hit a snag. Doesn't feel like we are working towards anything now. Through 30 episodes of Gingaman. Ryouma and Hyuuga are badasses and I like that each ranger has their role firmly planted in the story. Hikaru...that guy...I want to kick him, while I want to hug Gouki. I feel indifferent about Hayate and Saya, but I also have to qualms with them. Overall I really enjoy the team and their dynamic. The villains seem kind of dumb (lack for a better term) and lazy, but they are also shiesty schemers who are all after something. I can't wait to see that unfold. |
King Pyramider/Pyramidas was always big, but he definitely isn't Serpenterra big.
|
Obvious exaggeration, but he was double the size of the giant MotW, which was pretty nuts.

Currently nothing. Finished Jetman recently and am caught up with Ninninger. Been watching through the original Kamen Rider, but I really want to watch some Sentai. I just don't know which
