There is a serious Star Wars element to this question, but it relates specifically to Transformers to me so I'll ask it here.

In the old EU (Legends continuity as far as Disney is concerned), Tales of the Jedi was released in '93 and tried to tell the story of the time in Star Wars when Jedi and Sith were prolific in comic form. One of the conflicts in that story is literally referred to as "the Beast Wars"!

Hence the main question: Did the creators of the obvious literally rip-off Star Wars, or were they at the very least heavily inspired by it!?

Probably not. The name seems like a coincidence considering the Beast Wars of Star Wars didn't involve two factions being stranded on an unknown location and fought over resources to see who escapes first. But hey, who knows. Perhaps someone over at Hasbro at the time could've been aware and felt like the name worked for their next Transformers lineup and their legal team probably looked into it.
