On the positive side, yes the story is good. And the showrunner is a dear friend of mine...Gary the Cowboy. But if he had a choice, he wouldn't be working on this show either. Again, this is just coming from someone that works in the industry. The regular/average viewer will often not notice the things we do. |

And if this is how he runs a show he doesn't care about, I'd love to see him as a showrunner for something he does! |
^You probably have. He ran the masters of the universe series back in mid 2000.^
If you look closely at all the credits in western animation for action adventure, you'll start realizing its all done by the same people. It's such a small group over here. We all know each other. And as for kaijudos animation feeling more fluid, it probably feels that way to the untrained eye. I'm just glad that show is pretty much finished. So are the artists....and Gary. We've all worked on shows we hated. I had to work on generator Rex for 2 seasons. But hey, it paid the bills. I've also had to work on a bunch of shitty dreamworks movies. I absolutely hated shrek. But I guess the audience liked it and consider it good animation. I left dreamworks because they were going to put me on shrek 4. Best decision I ever made. I think shrek is a perfect example of animation that the general/mass audiences loved. It made a shit load of money for the company. But if you worked in animation, you dreaded the thought of working on one. |
Oh, I also forgot to add. Sometimes it's the other way around. Even though I liked YJ as a show, it was absolutely the worst working experience I've ever had. So bad, you'd notice none of the directors from season 1 stayed for season 2. And had there been a season 3, none of us would have stayed for it either. That's a new record. 5 directors burnt out.
|
My brother used to be terrified of Shrek because of a Universal Studios walkabout he saw when he was three or four.
Also, I need to make this clear: "Oogi, yip-yip," is one of my favorite lines ever, mainly because I think it sounds like, "Boogy, yip-yip." It's little things like this that also need to be congratulated. |
Maybe my eyes are untrained but that doesn't change that I love how Kaijudo is animated, it satisfies me in the action without resorting to cheap animation or ugly character designs like stuff in Alien Force and EMH, those are both great shows though. Then I liked Generator Rex as well. I'm just glad Kaijudo got a second season, it deserved it!

Given the bitterness in his posts I assume more is going on than he is presenting.

There is no bitterness. Just sharing what I know.

As for EMH, yeah. Not a big fan of the designs. But that wasn't Ceiros fault. That came from marvel. If you've noticed, a lot of the recent marvel animated series, have a "generic" look. This came from the top. For some odd reason, Marvel/Disney doesn't want a "cool" or distinct design for the characters. They're afraid it would interfere with their live action movies. But we know Ceiro can do better. He designed the current ninja turtles, and super monkey force. |

I'm not a big fan of Beware The Batman's look, I didn't like Green Lantern's new look at first either, but it grew on me, maybe this will as well. I dunno, everyone just looks really gangly and the huge limbs make the fights look really clunky. It's very stylishly directed though, sets a great mood. I swear the Marvel shows get worse as they go along, shows like Spectacular Spider-Man and EMH were both kinda ugly but they moved with such fluidity and energy that it was hard not to love the look. The new Avengers show and the new Spider-Man show are both as generic and cheap looking, but without the fluid animation so I just find them unwatchable in how hideous they appear. Then again most of the Marvel Animated films feel really cheap as well, I guess they don't really care for animation in the same way DC does - for the record the DC animated Universe I actually like better than the comics. |
You pretty much nailed everything on the head.

Yeah, I went over to a friend's to watch the Flashpoint Paradox.
To me its a mixed bag. First off, let me state that I was raised on Wally West as The Flash. I knew all about Barry through Wally's thoughts and memories and the occasional cross-temporal team-ups but was never really into the character as much as Wally. Wally was alos perhaps the most successful and organic of Legacy heroes who inherited his mentor's mantle and grew to be respected by Barry's peers (the Justice League...etc etc). OK Flash rant out of the way. The animation was hard for me to judge. I think they sacrificed some surface detail in the animation of faces, Wonder Woman specifically looks pretty....I dunno. The action looks pretty kinetic though to me at least the gore was a little overdone. And the voice work even by Kevin Conroy felt kind of phoned in. What I did love about this was how Aquaman was portrayed. And somehow Young Justice Aqualad made an awesome cameo. There were some unsettling scenes...I won't spoil them for anyone but let's just say Diana takes things a little too far. Oddly enough the character I was hoping to see animated the Element Woman was absent. I loved her design in the comics but I guess she was for the most part inconsequential to the plot. |
So I just finished Paradox and I'm in two minds.
On the one hand, I LOVED the animation. Every fight sequence in this was just stunning and from that stand point this film was just perfect. On every other standpoint though... Firstly the character designs were hideous, everyone looked deformed, the writing was incredibly bad and although the changes in Paradox were fascinating because they showed a deep understanding of the characters and their mythos's (grammar?) it was like every what if scenario was the most depressing one they could think up and it just made it an overwhelming experience at the best of times. I never want to finish a superhero film wanting to slash my wrists. |
An old wound reopened today.
Teletoon, which is Canada's Cartoon Network is advertising Young Justice season 2 episodes…:( Yeah, Teletoon is THAT slow…they aired GI Joe Renegades once it was long done and forgotten about too. |

Guys...I got some bad news. Next transformers is gonna be aimed at kids...as in it's gonna be closer to rescue bots than Prime. :( :( ...well..I guess there's always Transformers GO!, right?

very very simple. I like the designs (same designer), but they are going in a completely opposite direction. Instructions were to keep them as simple as possible...and then start adding detials. Basically, can you design a robot with as little lines as possible?
|

I'm guessing its not going to be along the lines of Animated then. To be fair a lot of us didn't give Animated much of a chance until the toys came out. As for Robots without lines...wow. Drawing a blank. I'll reserve judgement when we start seeing some official art. |
Too bad they're probably going to keep the toys stupidly simple like the upscaled Cyberverse stuff though. So it clearly wasn't just a thing to do at the tail end of the BH line like they promised at BotCon. "Simple as possible" is 100% their game plan for everything sans Generations.
Which is a major, major disappointment. And not going to work well at all, methinks. As long as the writing of the show isn't just like Rescue Bots, I might give it a shot at least. Unless you mean both design and story will be like it, in which case that does not give me much hope... |

Yeah, it won't necessarily be bad. It could be good. I'm just letting nostalgia get the better of me. I hardly watch cartoons aimed at the younger/younger kids (rescue bots, super hero squad, the fischer price Rescue Heroes). But as Electric Turhak brought up, it might mean simpler toys too...that seems to be the case that a lot of companies are going. Mattel, Hasbro and etc.
Thank god we still have japanese toys. :) |
Oh man Rescue Heroes, totally forgot about that show, as an adult it all seems so dumb but as a kid that was the shit.

Anyway, I really hope that this new show turns out to be the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic! of the series. My friend just started watching Transformers: Prime because she found the story to be intriguing. I don't want to be the only fan in my group of friends again. In the meantime, I will make TFW2005 aware of this new development. |
Same writers (from TFP) for the next Transformers Series, Potato?
|
No clue about writers. Sorry.
|
Guys. We have this conversation every time there's a new Sentai or Rider series, and someone finds it a little childish. That's who these shows are aimed towards. They make Transformers for one reason and one reason only. Toy Sales. It's a half-hour toy ad and nothing more.
And remember this. Transformers Animated was supossed to be a Kid-Friendly show to, and it ended being one of the ebst TF adaptations to date. So mayube the judging is coming a little early, eh? Also AUTOBOT JUICY! |

"It's too stupid!" "Really, Toei? Fruit?" "This has got to be the DUMBEST idea yet." And yet a Strawberry themed, Kunai-wielding Rider (Strawberry Shinobi, CALLED IT!) and a Watermelon Mini-Mecha have just been announced and we are praising it. Just wait, this may be pretty good. |

But knowing it's going 2D is actually a good thing. Since generally CG shows cost 3 times more to produce than 2D, they can probably spend the money on other things..plus you can have a crapload more of characters showing up on screen. That's always been the limitation of CG shows (unless you have Lucas' budget) is the number of characters that can appear onscreen at the same time. I enjoyed the crap out of Prime and wished I had worked on it. And even though the Hub is a newer animation studio, the people they employ are all top notch veterans. Someone here said it best..Transformers the Animated series was aimed at the younger crowd. And that turned out awesome.
