You could totally work in a gimmick with bugs, for example: small jars with different insect figures in them, which could then be place in the morpher, and robo, or having bugs stuck in amber which could then be placed in the morpher/robo.

Let's see, a gimmick:

Sixth Ranger will be Arachnid based, because they're always "special" and "different"
the main five's morphers could be bug-catching nets, because we've seen weirder morphers at this point so it's allowed.
Their main weapons could be handheld pincers like the KuwagaRaiger's Stag Breaker, and their other sub weapon would be laser antennas or something.
Red Ranger would be Ant based, which leads into
the Enemy group being either based off of Wasps solely or various pests or insects with bad reputations like roaches or locust and the Wasps being the generals/high-caste of the group, and an immobile queen being the head villain (until her princess daughter offs her mid-season)
There'll be a rogue wasp zord that both the Rangers and the Enemies use to combine with their mechs
Mid-season upgrade will either be an exoskeleton or some sort of pollen armor (why not both)
Final zord will be like a creepy hive, shooting out small robots to attack enemy giants from various hexagon hole located all over it.
Catchphrase will be "Buzzing evil into submission" or something equally corny
Auxiliary Rangers based off of larvae, all white and numbered "EX"
Team cannon resembles a Caterpillar, like one a bunch of ants just killed and are taking back to the hive.
Also, possible metamorphoses super armor which requires either the Red Ranger, sixth ranger, or maybe all the rangers in different episodes to be gone an entire episode so as to evolve into a Butterfly super mode, complete with a Proboscis sword that doubles as a gun and energy wings that release explosive powder when flapped.

Side-note, one ranger must be addicted to sap, and another must be an extreme rules-nazi because of how organized/coordinated some insect species are.

I think would be better if the sixth ranger should be a herakles beetle meanwhile the spider and scorpion are villains.The main villains could be like jamahl and melzard.

I say mid-eighties to Dairanger?

Ohranger could have been the pinnacle of dark and gritty but certain circumstances had the show change its tone to a lighter one.
Another factor is that the prosthetics on the villains felt more grotesque back in the old days. Not that recent villains suck, but the aesthetics at the time had that 'don't mess with me or I will finish you like a game of Mortal Kombat' vibe.

I'm definitely going to agree with the Eighties because from what I've seen of Bioman, Changeman, and Liveman yeah they are really dark. From what I've heard of Jetman too yeah I would say that.

Fuuka is a comic relief because she got hurt all lot and she even slip on banana feel on her first fight as Ninninger and only one who doesn't believe in her family history as she call them "Fairy Tale"

Kasumi is a smart girl and act as big sister-type

B. Badass cowboy from USA

Jetman to me was never really all that dark, like at all. Dairanger though, yeah, that's probably the darkest I've seen so far. For crying out loud, one of it's major plot points is about a mother abusing and abandoning her child.

But that was Kou. That kid had it coming :p

But yeah, I wouldn't call Jetman dark either. Full of cat drugs, sure, but not dark.

Other than the suit homage, the dojo, and the legacy aspect (finishing what the ancestor of the red ranger started), what else is there that you have seen that would constitute as sucking on Shinkenger's teat?

Other than those? The swords with attachable discs, the mecha aesthetics, the villains gathering fear or something in liquid form, and the gold ranger with a food morpher. A lot of this show has felt to me, since we first saw it, like a desperate attempt to recapture Shinkenger's popularity.

Well, that 1st episode opening battle was similar to Shinkenger's.
And I guess for some it cannot be helped considering they are both very Japanese and Shinkenger was the predecessor. And they both have a sixth member who is gold and uses a food-shaped device to transform and the enemy wants to ultimately restore their boss to peak condition so that they can RULE THE WORRRRRRLLLLDDDDD.
Personally I dont care too much since there are still differences as much as there are similarities such as team dynamics, colors, meçha, designs, etc.

Man, I really should get to watching Ninninger...
