And nah. It's a spin-off. They needed a "Girly girl" character, and Rarity best fits that spot (While she isn't in series, she is the closest to that stereotyping).

It's just so weird really. I've been a fan so long that I forgot it still strikes many people as being odd. In fact, I'm reminded more of the strangeness of Tokusatsu fandom (you know, men in bright-coloured spandex?) by my peers in real life than my pony fandom, which I share with at least 2 other people.

I think it really is a disbelief, not that anyone other than young girls can watch bronies, but that a young girls' cartoon can actually be good. To be fair outside of MLP it is pretty hard to find a decent little girls' show.

I can only think of 3 off the top of my head.
