There is no good that comes from tarring something like this with such a broad brush, and I also don't think the right wing has anyone's best interest in mind lmao. The conversation as it stands is not "does this work at tackling these themes" (which I may add a large amount of critics thought it did when it was screened independently and in it's home country) but a conversation of whether this art should exist at all because of an American corporation thinking they could get away with doing something unconsciable based on marketing suits with poor taste and that's fucked up six ways from sunday". TLDR It's getting criticized for talking about something difficult by people who have no fucking clue what they're talking about who judge the whole thing on Netflix's awful marketing and it's not a coincidence a black refugee woman is getting hate for something about her own experiences by white people |

The movie's existed for months with relative silence in Europe but it gets one badly done Netflix poster and suddenly some random American lad known for being dodgy online happens to know the ins and outs of the casting process (and also accusing the director of nvestiagated by Interpol) and starts a feeding frenzy online based on out-of-context clips and hearsay.

I've heard from a person who has actually watched the film that despite the well intent the film still has the child actors act sexually and by focuses on those actors' bodies in a sexual way. This may be to simulate the way the adults are looking at them, but it's still damaging to those actors. According to the same person it shows the girls acting as the one choosing to sexualize themselves without showing some sort of manipulation by an outside actor. Along with this is has them sexually harass a boy their own age again without context.
