Island Wars episode 1 is out! :D

Island Wars is a fun little special. Minimal story explanation but a fun ride, although if like me you aren't a fan of Sekai's main character powers things do get a little tedious right at the end. The other suits literally become batteries for his gunpla. Yeah they can push it as unity all they want but that's esssentially what it is. Lots of shipping fodder too, so I hope you all like that :lol

The last scene is the best thing about it though, couldn't have had a bigger grin on my face when my initial suspicions were confirmed :D

TBH Island Wars was a little disappointing to me still the ZII and Gyancelot were pretty cool.

I think Island Wars would've benfited from being a full length movie rather than 1 shot OVA.

I watched the first disc to Victory today, which covered the first 9 episodes. Overall, it was a lot better than I was anticipating, but it feels like nothing is happening yet. I know it's Gundam, and they always start slow, but usually by this point there is at least some plot progression. I still don't know jackshit about anything that is happening. Who are these people? Why is the Earth Federation not doing anything to stop the Zanscare Empire? Who is the Zanscare Empire? How did they come into power? Are they the remnants of the Crossbone Vanguard? Why are they executing random people? What do they want? How are Uso and gang illegal immigrants?

The episodes themselves were pretty good even though I really don't see why we need to have prequel episodes that lead up to the first episode. They could have easily told that story in the span of two episodes. Also, Cronicle Asher is hands down the worst Char clone ever! The man is a bumbling idiot and can't even do anything right even in a mobile suit. In fact, he isn't even worthy of being called a Char clone. He doesn't even wear a mask for any other reason than the Earth's environment annoys him.

As for the Victory Gundam, it's a cool design, but seems to be the weakest Gundam ever made as its body parts keep getting destroyed as if they were made of tissue paper. I guess the alternative would be it being indestructible no matter what touched it, but still, this is a Gundam, it shouldn't be falling to pieces just from being sneezed on.

BTW, is it just me, or do the mobile suits seem to be a lot smaller in this series?

Man, I think I complained a lot, but they really are just minor gripes I have right now about this series. I'm sure things will improve over the next 43 episodes, but I can already see why Tomino hated working on this show.

You're not wrong. Story goes is that when Bandai bought Sunrise, Bandai wanted to make the Gundam models for the next show smaller and cheaper, so an in universe shrinking of mobile suits happened, with the explanation being a technological shift from heavier armor that can tank hits to faster and leaner mobile suits that are susceptible to more physical weapons due to less armor.

Watching Island Wars has me in the mood to go through Build Fighters again, currently working my way through the first series and I'm up to about episode 5.

It's a shame that some people can't get passed the Beyblade aspect of the show cause it's still just as fantastic as when I first went through it.

The animation is top notch and the fight choreography is amazing.

Even though in a lot of series, like Wing, the Gundams are still nigh-invulnerable at times.

I was able to ignore the childish aspect of it, but even still it didn't do a thing for me.

I was just explaning the general justification, not how things actually are.

Oh I know, I was just making a comment at how indestructable some of the Wing Gundams got when pitted against grunts.

So I watched episodes 10-15 today and the show is still moving at a snail's pace, but I am enjoing it. Well, mostly. That all girl team seems to be utterly pointless when a member is dying in each episode. The villains still have yet to be developed or even properly introduced, which is really getting on my nerves given that I'm a quarter of the way done with the show. Uso is a pretty likable main character though.

So we finished the second disc to Victory today and except for the fact that we finally get some insight on the queen and it turns out to be a god damn clip show, they were some pretty good episodes. The first three on disc three is really where things took off and I love the reveal of who Shakhti's mother is. That was completely unexpected. The animation, while not up to Zeta's standards, is really well done and the character designs are really good. Cronicle, however, continues to be useless and hasn't done jack.

So I've been having conversations with people at my college a little about anime. I talked to this one guy in my Calculus class and I told him about how I am a Gundam fan. He said he was never really into mecha sci fi because he thought the whole giant robot concept was too silly.

For me, I feel the opposite way, because I've seen so much Gundam, I inherently take mecha serious in anime and can't take it in a nonserious context.

Do you think the whole "Giant robots are silly thing" is a problem Gundam has if people are trying to get into it and that's what hard about making it mainstream (or at least again?)

Same thing like Transformers, some people just simply don't find entertainment in big Robots fighting other robots even if the quality animation or effects are great. It's a pretty niche genre if you ask me, 9 out of 10 times people watch big Robots fighting other Robots for cool fight scenes and effects, and after a while it gets boring for them.

So at the risk of being verbally castrated I must say after actually watching it completely all my previous complaints about IBO ring hollow it's controversial content is no where near as bad as myself and others made it out to be .

For one Mika is far from a cold blooded killer and most of his killings were justified.

For another the dynamic between Mika and Orga is a lot healthier and not as one sided as most say it is .

The harem thing was just mentioned off handily and not made a big deal of and wasn't nearly as creepy as I thought it would be.

These complaints I never understood. Mika was never being submissive, or overly into it when Orga came up with stuff. He always was confident when he went with it.

The harem thing is not as creepy as people think and it's not a major plot point. I think in later episodes, one of the Turbines suggest that the whole harem thing is just a front to protect these women.

Honestly, I find Mika a far more interesting character when compared to Heero or Setsuna.

I disagree that Mika is more interesting than Setsuna (personal opinion). While I can sort of see why people think that, as Setsuna was debrainwashed but still was emotional stunted for a lot of the series, making him look less interesting. Whereas Mika still has that brainwashed thing going on in some form with the way he treated the CGS adults and him and Orga promising to make Outer Heaven... I mean a better future together. I find them both equally interesting for different reasons.

Orga isn't manipulative of Mika or Tekkiden at all in fact he actually tries to live up to their especially Mika's idea of him as an infallible badass leader who'll lead them to paradise which puts a lot of pressure on him and the death of Biscuit shows Orga is just as dependent on Mika as Mika is him and his conversations with Maribet are very enlightening when it comes to his character

and Kudelia is miles above Relena,Lacus or Marina as a character.

I hope season 2 doesn't ruin them.

Yup, that's the thing I really liked about Kudelia is the fact that she wanted to get involved, she wanted to help in any way she could right from the get-go.

She amounted to way more in the first few episodes than Relena did in all of Wing.

What I like about Kudelia is how she adapts her mindset when she sees how naive and short sided her goals originally were she wants to legitimately understand the people she wants to help so she actually can help them even at great personal risk to herself. she doesn't just preach about it while doing nothing*Marina,Relena* or force her views on people with a sledgehammer.*Lacus*

What I like about IBO compared to most other seasons in the AU is that they're going for a more realistic approach.

Hell, there's no trace of beam weaponry in Season 1. Everything is either melee based or using ballistic rounds, even the space ships.

Which reminds me, I still need to finish the first season...
