This week's episode of IBO actually felt pretty long and a lot happened. Vidar looks awesome although it was kinda hard to see what was going on when it fought. And Julieta is actually a tsundere for Vidar.

I know people love to poke fun at McGillis for thinking hes a pedo, but from what I've seen of him and the little girl, he's not attracted to her or a creep at all. He knows and I think she knows it's all for political gain, and McGillis is being the respectable understanding adult in the situation.

I'm also interested in the book he was reading. Hopefully we get more into the Gjallerhorn founder's ideals then that basic thing McGillis said.

Also, that grunt suit that looks like the Unicorn is called the King's Throne. Holy shit that name is badass.

Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn! Premiering January 7th at 1 AM on Toonami. I hope it's better than IBO. I give up on IBO because I didn't like the story that much.

It's the bad version of Unicorn, RE 0096. The pacing is really messed up compared to the OVAs and there was no attempt to do anything about the awkward cuts as a result of shorter episode runtime. The intial press release also stated there would be "new footage" but nothing of significance was added. A few seconds of new animation or redrawn stuff, that's it. No extended final battle, no Sinaju hijacking flashback, no other miscellanous stuff from the novels added into this version. The only reason it was made was to keep a timeslot on Japanese tv from a show that got cancelled.

I stopped watching IBO because it's not a once a week show. Plus, it doesn't help that CN is skipping Season 2 to air a crappy cut of Unicorn. They should have just aired IBO all of the way through.

You realize there's not an English dub of season 2 yet right? And season 2 isn't over in Japan by the time they're airing Unicorn, so they haven't technically skipped it.

They have the dub actors, they've dubbed Unicorn at the same time, and Toonami aired Space Dandy dubbed at the same time it aired in Japan, so there's no reason CN couldn't air Season 2 now. The days for a dub to not be completed at the same time as the Japanese language track are over. There is no excuse to not do it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't IBO season 1 not get dubbed until after the season was over?

Also I was under the impression that RE:96 just re-used the old OVA dub.

Space Dandy was a special case, I think one of a handful of examples where the dub came out before or at the same time as the sub. Unicorn was also kind of a special case, they made westerners have to buy the Japanese blu-ray, there was no other way Bandai was distributing it at the time. So the made the English Dub available on the disc so they could more easily sell insanely high priced blu-rays to a western audience.

You say there's no reason for things to be simuldubbed, but licensing issues are still a thing. I assume it's what took so damn long for official Dragon Ball Super subs to come out.


Re 0096 just reused the OVA dub with some episode previews narrated by Full Frontal's VA. Daisuki actually had the dub premiere at the same time as the sub since almost all of the VA work was already done.

Actually Super has more to do with Funimation wanting to air it on CN.

So there's some rumors going around that the series director for Gundam the Origin got fired over an incident where he showed up to an executive screening of the Origin 4 drunk. His name isn't in the credits of Origin 4, so that gives predence to something. Plus, it's also rumored they are not gonna try to find a replacement for him as series director, placing more pressure on everyone else.

Hopefully the Loum Arc doesn't suffer because of this.

I actually kinda agree with Kain, dubbing isn't as time-consuming as making an actual show. There's no reason season 1 of IBO can't be weekly, though I don't blame them for not airing season 2 right away, it's weird that season 1 dubbed still hasn't finished airing.

Then again, the dub isn't especially great, especially with it's unintentional scrubbing of minor themes and plot points. (as well as totally missing the point of Mikazuki's personality, making him sound like just a normal guy)

Oh, and even though I watched it last Sunday I forgot to comment on the most recent ep. Once again it's the build up for the next ep, but Vidar is cool. Also, McGillis and his "wife" is now full-on red flag creepy. Granted, we know he's just using her, but still... I get the feeling there's people of questionable interests at work on this show sometimes...

The dub sounds fine to me. Maybe it's because you're use to the Japanese voices while I've only watched it in English?

I mean it's not bad, but Mika's voice actor gives him too much personality. He's too human, not as detached and socially nonfunctional as the character's meant to be. It's especially kinda weird when Mika emotionally shuts down completely and goes psycho, yet he's still talking like a normal guy. It's a small thing, but considering how he's progressing in season 2, it's going to be weird if they don't catch on to it.

Everything else performance-wise is give or take save for some changes in dialogue. Minor spoilers: Like when in episode 23 Ms. Merribit is upset at the Tekkadan children watching Mika's fight because she doesn't want them to turn out to be as heartless and sociopathic by watching something so brutal. (since they kinda are) In the dub, she's just concerned about their safety because there's a fight nearby, and the moral implications aren't brought up. (it also makes it look like she's just a really fussy mother and not the lone voice of reason in the sociopathic echo chamber of Tekkadan) This kinda undercuts her whole subplot of wanting to preserve the children's innocence as much as she can, despite them not wanting to be saved because of a misplaced sense of honour to their dead comrades.

Which is gonna be really weird in the next ep when she actually fucking breaks down over that, since it's gonna come out of nowhere.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the last episode dubbed because of how emotional one fight is. I actually like some of the voices quite a bit, like Gaelio's and Carta's. (especially since Carta annoyed me so much in the original) In fact, I'd say every voice is just as good or at least easily acceptable except Mika and Orga. Mika because of the aformentioned misunderstanding of his personality, and Orga because he, like Mika, just sounds too normal. His voice is too high pitched, his vocal mannerisms too casual. He doesn't sound quite like the bold leader he is.

But that's just me. I'm not really a snob when it comes to dubs, as I watched Unicorn in Japanese first, but vastly prefer the English dub in every way. Ditto with G Gundam.

Honestly, since CN is not going to be airing IBO Season 2 right away, I might just start watching the show in Japanese on Crunchyroll so I can catch up to whereever they are at when I get there. On the other hand, I might want to wait until they are nearing the end of season 2 so I can watch the whole thing in a short time span.

Speaking of which, I really need to watch Victory. My BDs are just collecting dust right now.

Didnt do much in the way of sanding or painting and the like but I did take a pencil and a cotton swab over all the white to try and give it a sort of weathered look......looks better in hand

I always feel a little better about myself whenever I see official images or reviewers of gunpla have little nub marks on their assembled kits, that I'm not just that bad at gunpla.

Hahaha I'm neither of those just a fan who was a little pressed for time due to work and lack of proper tools doing all my cutting from the sprues with scissors and the trimming with a box knife before just slapping it all together XD I wish I had a set of gundam markers at the very least to tidy it up some and make it look nicer

You can actually scratch nub marks off just using your finger nail.

Man My EW Deathscythe can't get here soon enough. Great job on your though. Also when I first started building gunpla I only used my fingers.

When I started last year I had watched a million videos so I made sure I had some sort of file or sanding tool, nippers (scissors worked fine), and a toothpick for the stickers. My Figurise 555 is one of my favorites I have done alongside my Star Build Strike. And this being my first venture into the 1/100 Scale I may start heading into this scale more often.

Anybody know some good places to order Gunpla? I'm wanting to get some more but I'm finding it hard to find the scales at decent prices. Or is $45-ish the usual price for things like an Astray Blue Frame 1/100 scale?

If your talking about a local hobby store though, that's not a decent price.

I'm with Kiryu on this. HLJ is probably your best bet as they have widest selection (IMO) and they tend to be a little cheaper right from the start and they also have a good range of shipping options. The problem with local stores is that to make up what they paid to get the kits they have to sell them at a higher markup. Case in Point the 1/100 scale Astray blue frame 2nd L is on sale right now at HLJ for 2000 yen ($17.54 US) and if you went MG either version of the blue frame is under $40.00 US. So that $45.00 price you gave is clearly a markup.

Well it's a small price to pay if you don't wanna deal with shipping or taxes.

Besides, it's better to support local businesses anyway.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've been eye balling the Blue Frame for a while and really enjoy its design despite never having seen SEED or SEED Destiny.....Which if I'm right i dont think the Blue Frame came from those series anyway did it?

It's from a manga spin off series of Gundam Seed.

Funny since Yasuhiro Imagawa directed G Gundam and the first few episodes of Getter Robo Armageddon.

The Gundam Astrays come from a series of manga sidestories to SEED and SEED Destiny all branded under SEED Astray. There's some grunts that look similar to the redframe I think in the main series too.
