Winter season's starting up. Most shows I'm watching are already out, only exception being DRRR!!x2. I'm watching Dagashi Kashi too but am sort of waiting to see if an official licensor is actually gonna pick it up or...what.
Anyway, ERASED is definitely the stand out series based off the first episode. Interesting premise and a first episode just packed with content. It looks to be very interesting but we'll see how it goes. Impressive start. On the other hand, Pandora in the Crimson Shell is likely the weakest of what I'm watching. I read the first couple of chapters of the manga (all I could find...) before deciding on watching it. The manga wasn't particularly impressive, and the anime (which more or less covers just those two chapters) certainly isn't, either. Felt something was lost in the adaptation, too...just a couple of the more interesting/funny moments lost their appeal. Animation is lackluster as well. I'm just banking on the possibility of things getting more interesting, because it looks like there could be something interesting lurking under the surface. There likely won't be and I'm stuck with some weird ecchi show. Either way...unimpressive start all in all. Besides those...Divine Gate is ok. Animation isn't quite impressive, character design is very on-the-nose but I don't necessarily mind it. Quite an abundance of hilariously cheesy lines (the water will fill the holes in the ground....BUT IT WONT FILL THE HOLE IN MY HEART) and cliche characters, but eh, I can give it a break. It wasn't a bad start. Assassination Classroom is still Assassination Classroom. It's inoffensive but I don't really care about it. Really hoping this second season can grab my attention more than the first one did (where it really only grabbed me in the last arc, and even then to a limited degree). Oshiete! Galko-chan wasn't really what I expected. All things considered, I expected its humor to go in one or two directions. It did kinda indulge in one (sexual humor) to a small degree, but the real focus in the first episode was toilet humor, and a lot of...toilet talk. It caught me off guard, it's weird, and I...don't really mind it, really. It's just talking about pretty off-kilter stuff in a completely straightforward and uncomfortable manner, and that's not something I see a lot. Anyway, wasn't really funny, but it didn't bore me, which is more than I can say about too many short anime. The art really doesn't disappoint, either. Which is good, because it's the only reason I'm watching this in the first place. Good character design, very colorful all around, and quality is consistent throughout. Really like the way this series looks. Lastly Sekkou Boys, which is nice enough. Funny, weird...not quite as much as I would have expected, but it's only one episode, so I'll give it some time to get weird. Also, was pleased to find that both Galko-chan and Sekkou Boys are ~8 minutes each. I feared I was gonna get stuck with more shitty two-minute (90 second) anime. Those are pretty uniformly terrible, so...happy about that. Anyway, this winter shows some potential. Could all easily end up going to shit, but...am optimistic...Except about Ghost Urn, I guess, if I'm being completely honest. As much as I want to hope that gets better I'm probably hoping against fate. |
Kimera - I bought this anime used for $7 at a local video store today. I never seen this anime before and I thought it could be a fun anime to watch. I was not expecting anything good, but I hoped for something enjoyable. I think I found a vampire anime that would make Diabolik Lovers look good.
The writing is god awful. Nothing in this anime makes no sense. After watching this anime, I still have no idea on what was going on. Our plot is that there some alien vampires that came down to Earth and they want to use some female vampires to make more vampires babies to destroy the human race. It looks like they want this Vampire called "Kimera" to make more vampires. Meanwhile our main human character ends having feelings for Kimera despite not having any real bound with each other whatsoever. There is not a single likable character and no one in this anime was interesting. Kimera has no personality and there is no reason for us to care on what happens to her (or him. This anime is so confusing on the character's gender). Our main villains feel like your typical generic shonen anime bad guys. The anime ends with a cliffhanger for a possible series which never happen. The animation is not very good and could have been much better looking. The fight scenes look awful and the backgrounds are very dull to look at. The music is also forgettable to listen and there was not a single music track that was good. This anime wants to be a sci-fi horror, yaoi, shonen and hentai anime, but fails miserably. If you want a vampire anime then go watch Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, Blood+ or Darkstalkers. Avoid this anime at all cost. Grade: E |

So all show I want to watch are by sentai film listened and the big f you me again living in uk is hard trying support legal streaming is hard denfently they now rarely put stuff on crunchyroll now and making Hulu exclusive forcing me to download |
Watched the newest episode of Durarara!!x2.
Once again, I've completely forgotten who half the characters are and what on Earth is going on :lol |
Me too!
Glad Celty basically did too. :lol |
We watched all 13 episodes to Dangan Ronpa today. My g/f has been a huge fan of the games and anime for the last few years and since she got the BD of teh show, she finally got me to watch it. It was quite good. The first few episodes were okay, but the show got better and did not go into the repetitive nature I was anticipating. In fact, the final episode was down right awesome and Junko is my favorite character of the show followed by Kiri. I can't say I'm a fan of Greg Ayres' Monokuma, since I have heard his voice from the games for a long time, but he still did an excellent job with his lines. Jaime Marchi was absolutely phenomenal as Junko. Hell, the entire voice cast was quite good, but I can definitely see why Bryce is Neagima, as it is the same type of character he plays in every show. Overall though, I enjoyed it and it was nice to see something different come out of a newer show.

Mezzo Forte - I had this on DVD for a while now and never really watch it. I remember hearing about this anime, but never seen it outside of a few random clips. It's from the same people that made Kite and Kite was a anime that I never got into. I saw Kite once in High School after hearing a lot of people love it while I found it rather dull. Mezzo Forte on the other hand was a lot of fun and surprisingly good.
The main characters are great and there is a lot of personality for them. They are all very likable and made me want to see more of them. Kite too itself way too seriously and too drama heavy for a anime that was over the top. Mezzo Forte knew that it was going to be a over the top anime and the anime give us over the top action with funny humor. The animation is solid and the English dub voice cast is pretty good too. Melissa Fahn is great as Mikura. She put in a lot of energy for her character. My biggest issue with this anime is that something didn't make much sense like the connection between Mikura and the main villain. I saw the edited version, so I probably need to check out the uncut version later. Unlike most OVA's, this got a sequel in 2004 called "Mezzo DSA". So I do look forward on watching the anime TV series next. Overall this was a very enjoyable anime and I recommend it for action anime fans. Grade: B |
Well, looks like another bad season overall, only three shows I'm interested in and one of them isn't entirely in the clear yet.
Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju was, without a doubt, far and away the best premier this season. It's a very low-key period piece, which is such a refreshing change of pace from everything else. It has such a specific and particular focus, but it manages to be incredibly engaging thanks to its great characters, dialogue, and visuals. I knew nothing about rakugo performance art before watching this, but the portrayal of Yotaro's performance was so well choreographed and the vocalization so well done that it managed to make itself highly engaging even without any sort of background knowledge of the material. The overall aesthetic and style of this show is just fantastic. it really put pretty much everything else to shame. ERASED was excellent as well, very intriguing first episode. It has a strong cast with some interesting dynamics, their interactions felt natural and realistic which was nice. Not much else to say on this really, it was just a really great start. Only other show I watched was Active Raid, it was an okay start but we'll see. Basically I liked the suit designs and it had some cool moments that made it feel like a real, living world instead of just a series of action set pieces. That being said though it could easily fall into the usual dull fare this kind of show almost always ends up as so I'm keeping my expectations low. Couldn't be bothered to watch anything else unfortunately, only a couple of things really stood out as doing something new and creative. Everything else seems to be the usual, tired entries of "fantasy high school harem LN adaptation #7845" or another generic action show with an insufferable self-insert style cool guy protagonist. |
I started The Devil Is a Part-Timer last night and so far it's great. Two episodes in and I'm hook.
|
Last few shows of the winter are out...Dagashi Kashi is ok. Watching this for the art, and the art is alright. Wish animation was better but oh well. Pretty eccentric lead girl...DRRR!! is still weird. Dimension W didn't really leave much of an impression on me. I guess it has potential, though the setting feels kinda generic. And lastly Koyomimonogatari...seems to be reusing some stuff. Odd but whatever. Fun enough little story, mostly inconsequential but then that's sort of the point.
|
I allway like the anime I pick up on Crunchyroll and watch them some download anime I watch I forget about download the next episode yet love the so glad to be starting snow white with red hair season two and gate loved those show.
|
I only look forward to Ajin: Demi-Human for this winter. I mainly try to catch up on newer anime or see old ones that I have not seen yet.
|
Ansatsu Kyoushitsu and Gate 2 are more of the same, and that's okay by my books.
Sekkou Boys... really should have been crazier and the first episode was kind of boring, only having one joke and all that, hope the next episodes improve on it. Phantasy Star is not really an adaptation of the game's story but a show about students playing the game so... not my cup of tea. Ao no Kanata is perfectly harmless, Koyomimonogatari is fun filler, Ojisan to Marshmallow is fairly amusing for a short show and Dagashi Kashi... I don't really get, I like Kokonotsu and the cafe crew, but Hotaru... is just okay. Schwarzesmarken was way cooler than I expected, and I was super hyped for it, so that's saying something, alternate universe, an alien invasion stopped the regular course of the Cold War, it's set on a Germany that never really reunited and has cool mechs, creepy aliens and political intrigue. It seems like a way better spin-off than Total Eclipse and generally speaking a better show. Active Raid and Koukaku no Pandora are reeeeally fun, they are lighthearted sci-fi shows about fighting crime, Active Raid has exoskeletons, Pandora straight up has cyborgs, they are both silly and a lot of fun, so I'm super happy with them. I like active raid but from first episode it just felt like classroom crisis minus the school business just set in police station I mean I got from new transfers is exactly what crisis class room had just hope it's done better

Been watching the Symphogear and enjoying it very much, almost done with the first season.

I finished watching The Devil is a Part-Timer and I loved it. I love the whole show from start to finish. The humor, characters and story was fantastic. The action and animation was very good too. The dub was very well, probably the best Funimation dub for a comedy show that I have seen in a while. I wish the show was longer and there is no sign of a second season anytime soon. I already miss the characters =(. Had this show been longer, I would give it a A+. If you like comedy or into shows with demons then give this show a watch. I highly recommended it. Grade: A

Guardian of Darkness - I didn't know anything about this anime before going in. I have mixed feelings for Masami Obari since I either like or hate the stuff that he works on. Oddly enough, I end up liking this anime much more then I thought it would. This anime was much darker then I thought it would and I thought it would be another generic sci-fi anime. I end up getting pretty dark henshin style anime with supernatural Japanese folklore. The animation for a early 90's anime was good for its time and you do have really well done action scenes in this anime. All of the battles are a lot of fun to watch and none of them are bad. All of the characters move and look nicely. The anime didn't look cheap for its time. Not to mention, the monster designs in this anime are pretty epic.
The story could have been better since there is things in it that made no sense and left me confused at times. The main characters are pretty good and I did care about them. The main female character does good through some decent development over time and our main hero is a pretty fun character. I would need to rewatch this anime again and see if I understand things better the second time. The dub is not so very good expect for the demonic voice effects. There is a lot of mispronunciation of the Japanese names in the dub and it can be annoying at times. You are better off watching this anime subbed instead. This anime is not perfect, but I did had a lot of fun watching it. I would give it a second watch soon. If you like anime such as Tekkaman Blade and Bubblegum Crisis or Toku such as Ultraman (There is a Ultraman reference in Episode 2) then give this anime a try. Grade: C+ |

Anyways, I've been in the mood for some Godzilla lately, and since Netflix took all of their Godzilla flicks down, I decided to go back to Amazon Prime and see what they had. Nothing good for Godzilla, but they did have Pokemon Origins and RahXephon, two shows I've been meaning to watch for a while. Now, I'm hoping you all know what not to read if you're trying to avoid spoilers, but just in case, my thoughts are going to include some small spoilers. Pokemon Origins was pretty cool. Lots of it played out just like the games, such as buying the Magikarp for 500, getting the rods, and even some direct quotes from the game, and that was all pretty cool. The four episodes were all enjoyable in their own right, but it just went by so fast and skipped so much that I can't help but feel disappointed. The only things it did show were stuff that built up to the final battle and the mega evolution of charizard, to the point where it felt like the entire series was just a commercial for mega evolutions. As for RahXephon, I've always wanted to check it out because I've heard it's similar to my favorite anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion. However, it seems like the creators were basically saying "Hey, let's make our own version of Evangelion!" That doesn't make it unenjoyable, but I was basically playing a game of "spot the Eva similarities" with my girlfriend while watching it. I'm only about 6 episodes in, but already I've noticed tons. From the main character staying with a purple-haired girl that's slightly older and introduced him to everything that's going on and a red-haired girl that's his age but doesn't get along with, his desire to not pilot the robot, the mysterious and socially awkward girl, dickhead boss, all the way to the mech that seems like it probably isn't actually a mech. Ignoring the eva similarities, I'm definitely enjoying it so far. The first couple of episodes were a bit confusing, but now it's starting to make a bit more sense. Definitely looking forward to watching more. Elfen Lied, which is also on Amazon Prime, is probably up next after I finish RahXephon. I generally prefer to watch stuff on streaming services like Netflix or Amazon Prime, since my computer isn't that great and takes too long to load. Which brings me to a question. Are there any streaming services that I can download to my PS4 that have a dubbed version of Yu-Gi-Oh GX? It's on CrunchyRoll for streaming, but is only subbed. This may sound strange coming from somebody who watches toku, but I prefer dubbed anime to subbed anime. I guess if I can't find anywhere else to watch it, I can make do with the subs, but definitely would prefer dubbed. |

On my own I am watching Gatchaman Crowds I am really enjoying it. |

But to fully answer your question Gosei, she wanted to start a PSG RP with me the second we finished the final episode. We even counted the gag ending as canon. :lol |
Personally, I think RahXephon is far superior to Evangelion. It doesn't have Shinji and a bullshit clip show final episode, for starters.
|
RahXephon is my most hated anime of all time. I remember renting it from Netflix in High School and I give up after episode 3. It was boring, confusing and trying to deep. I think it's artsy and deep when it's not. I could not sit through any of it at all. The animation is fantastic, but has nothing of substance to offer. Just sitting through any episode would put me to sleep. Everything really drags and felt so convoluted. I had no idea what the hell was going on in the first episode. The first three episodes alone was a chore to watch and I refuse to watch the rest of the show.
RahXephon, Kiss x Sis, Genesis of Aquarion and Skelter+Heaven are the worst anime that I've ever seen in my opinion. Transformers: Energon, Kimera and Doomed Megalopolis are pretty close though. Edit: I did watch three short animes at my friends house earlier last night. I saw Ragnorak, Robot on the Road, Bureau of Proto Society. All three are enjoyable and Robot on the Road was my favorite out all three of them. |

BTW Rahxephon is a Brave Reideen homage not an Eva copy according to it's director. |
Depends on the harem anime. I didn't mind harem like Ouran High School Host Club. Most bad anime that I've seen are bad, but not god awful. There is bad anime that are enjoyable for being so bad.

Call Me Tonight - I saw this anime a few nights ago and it was decent. I had no idea what I was going into it before I saw this anime. The anime is about a guy that turns into a tentacle monster whenever he masturbates or gets turn on by other hot women. This anime sounds like a hentai when it's not. There is no sex, rape and the violence is pretty tame. This anime is like a PG-13 version of Legend of the Overfiend. This anime has a lot of funny moments and random humor that give me a good laugh. The animation is pretty good for it's time and the art style does remind me a bit of Bubblegum Crisis. Like most short one-shot anime, the anime is lacking in character development and needs a stronger plot. However this anime was still a fun anime. If you are into retro anime, give it a watch. Call Me Tonight is pretty hilarious and original for its time. Grade: C
I plan to catch up with Akame Ga Kill and watch Detonator Orgun. I still need to finish One Punch Man too. |
Started watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. It had a slow start but I'm really enjoying it. I'm at episode 16 at the moment and I cant wait to find out what happens next. I really like Ed and Al, they are fun characters with just the right amount of seriousness. I also really like the mythology of that world.
|
I like FMA: BH, but I never finish it when it was airing on Adult Swim. It's a good show, but I hate how the fans hate the 2003 series for not being faithful to the manga. Since BH came out, the fans jump on the bandwagon. It's a still a good TV series as a stand alone series in my opinion.
|
Cant comment on that. never watched the original anime.
|
I think it's worth checking out to see the differences between the two. If you finish Brotherhood then check out the original TV series. I view it the same as the original Hellsing TV series. Not 100% faithful, but still a decent show on it's own.
|
They both have their strengths and weaknesses. The 2003 series starts off fantastically (better than Brotherhood in some areas), but that ending butchered a lot of characters that are great in the manga/Brotherhood and it (along with Conqueror of Shamballa) are pretty ridiculous.
|
Started watching 7 Deadly Sins. It's... alright I guess. Need to give it more time than just the two episodes I watched.
|
So I finished Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and I really liked it. The show was hella fun. I liked the whole mythology with the Philosophers Stone, the Humuncoli etc. I was also really gald that the show left some things open for you as the viewer to interpret. I dont really like when shows like this answer every single question and thus losing all of the mystery that made it fun to begin with.
