Yeah, the Ghost crossover is kind of lacking.
As for 12-15, 12 is subpar, 13 and 14 are average and entertaining, and 15 is pretty fun. Out of that bunch of episode Kain for some reason dislikes, the only one that is worth calling lackluster is episode 12. |

The revived shocker monster was the only cool part about Zyuohger 7. They didn't even like team up to fight, they just took turns. It was stupid.
I hope the Ghost episode is better, gonna watch it tonight after work |
I have about 5 episodes left in Carranger. The show is still silly as fuck, but the new villain introduced for the last 10-12 episodes adds a *little* bit of gravity to the Bowzock's evil plots. Surprised at how much I like where the Zonette-Red Racer stuff went. Better love story than Twilight.

Yeah, they did an excellent job with the Red Racer and Zonette storyline, which was funny because they were making a mockery of romance in these shows, but they did a better job than 90% of the romance in shows out there. |

Zyuohger episode 3.
I probably shouldn't be thinking too hard on this but for some reason this kept poping up in my head as the episode continued but Yamato's job doesn't seem like the kind of job that pays a lot so how was he able to afford that huge shopping trip at the start of the episode. |
Well, he lives with Mario, right? So I don't think rent and utilities are something he has to worry about too often.

We watched another batch of episodes today after helping our friends move. We're now up to episode 28 and the episodes we watched have been fun, I really love the diversity with the ranger cast and that they are trying to develop them. Unfortunately, the villains have taken a turn towards the generic as they are doing absolutely nothing right now. They haven't done anything with Hineler being a former friend of Kubota's or anything. Also, Girell has been pretty bland thus far and both Yugande and Shiborena haven't done a thing.
My favorite episodes though are the ones with the killer moth and the Antlion. I just love the episodes when characters are constantly being tossed around between various environments. As for the killer moth one, I did like seeing how the characters dealt with the concept of dying even though the viewer knows full well they are safe. Oh, Mega Silver is kind of cool. I like the idea that he is using a prototype suit and he puts on a nice change of pace compared to the other rangers being high schoolers. The whole "You aren't allowed to be Mega Silver" aspect is getting a little stale though and for him being able to only stay transformed for 2.5 minutes, he sure seems to be able to do A LOT. |
I've said it before multiple times, but I always found Yuusaku/MegaSilver to be infinitely more interesting untransformed. The humor between him and Kubota or the other rangers is a lot stronger because they're not in a fighting scenario, so they can tell him off a lot more.

BTW, something I forgot to bring up that I found really interesting. Episode 18 of Megaranger has Kouchirou meeting the spirit of the forest, who hates humans for trying to destroy him, and he ends up having to save the boy from the monster of the week.
Power Rangers Turbo had the exact same plot but with TJ. Is this a coincidence? Did one of the shows rip off the other? They both would have aired arond the same time, so I'm not sure. |

Well, after checking out a Reddit thread about "what Super Sentai episode aired the day you were born?" I did a little research and learned that episode 1 of Flashman aired the day I was born. That's neat. Related: I'm downloading the first five episodes of Flashman and I'll be watching those this afternoon.

Apparently there was a gap week closest to my actual birthday, so the closest is episode 32 of Denziman.
|
I was born a day after Episode 12 of Jetman (I was born on May 4th 1991 and Episode 12 air on May 3rd 1991). The closet one near by my birthday.
|
My birth date does not have an exact Sentai episode aired on it. But by power of deduction and episode listing, the closest is Ohranger's fourth episode (aired on March 24th 1995), three days before my birthday (March 27th 1995). Four days later from my birthday was episode five (aired March 31st).
|
I should clarify. My birthday is February 28th, 1986. Flashman episode 1 was on March 1st, 1986. But I was born during afternoon on the west coast of the US, so correcting for the time difference... I was born on the morning of March 1st in Japan! Whatever. Flashman torrent's downloading.

Episode 28 of Zyuranger, 'Great Upgrade! Clay Monsters' aired the day after.
|
Yikes, this "what episode aired on your birthday" discussion makes me feel ancient.
Bioman Episode 40, "Stolen Turbo," aired the day before I was born in November of 1984. |

To make all of you guys feel old, I was born 3 days after Gaoranger 4 and 3 days before Gaoranger Quest 5.

And that's a wrap on Megaranger. Well, except for the Mega vs Car movie, which I have never seen before.
Anyway, overall, the show was really good despite a few misteps. Girell was absolutely worthless and brought nothing to the show that couldn't have been done without him. On the other hand, the Neziranger arc was freaking awesome and the highlight of the show, I just wish they had done it a lot sooner in the series. Hell, it would have made a lot more sense to have them be the cause for the Mega Voyager upgrade. The stuff with Hineler was also great, but it was under utilized as we really should have got more insight into his backstory a lot sooner too. It would have added more to the relationship between him and Shiborena instead of being a last minute reveal. The ranger cast was done well, but once again blue and yellow got the short end of the stick. Shun had a really great episode at the beginning of the show with his mom and then when he lost his memory, but other than that, he didn't have much of a story. As for Chisato, she got a really terrible episode with her grandmother (was that the lady who played the aunt in Ryuki?) and that was about it. The majority of the development went to Miku, Kenta, and Kouichirou. I did like how they sparingly used Mega Silver, but there were a couple of situtations where it didn't make sense for him to not be around, especially since it was after Mega Voyager and Mega Winger were there. Finally, the mech battles got really boring after a while. This show really suffered from having to have a mech battle every episode (sans the premier Neziranger episode), especially since Galaxy Mega was introduced immediately. It is easily the second weakest entry of the 90s, but when compared to the other 39 series out there, it is a pretty strong entry regardless of its shortcomings. BTW, for the birthday episode, surprisingly, Megaranger's 16th episode aired on my birthday. Of course, that was in 1997, not in 1982. No episode aired on the day I was actually born on. |
Something in Megaranger that isn't brought up often is the acquisition of the Mega Voyager.
And the total beating the Galaxy Mega takes while they're doing so. I really found that scene super tense, not only seeing the Galaxy Mega get beaten so badly (Including impaled by a giant girder or something), but also the complete panic going on by the complete staff inside. It was a really well done moment. |
Yeah, that was definitely a great moment. There are a lot of excellent moments throughout the series that I feel this one truly would have benefitted from a lower episode count. I'm not really sure what determines the length of a series. Like, why was Kaku 53 episodes? Why were Oh and Car only 48? Why was Mega 51? Either way, Car felt like it was right for 48 episodes whereas Mega felt like it could have been the same. Sure, it is only 3 less episode, but sometimes that can be enough. At 48, Mega could have gotten rid of that pointless clip show episode and two other filler episodes that served no purpose.
Another thing I forgot to mention was that I loved the music despite some of it not being original to this series. |
Well from what I read a while back, Kaku was made to have 53 episodes so that Ohranger could air in March for the anniversary.

Unless Toei decides to claim my video, here is my review for Shout! Factory's recent release of Ninja Sentai Kakuranger.

My rankings of that era go: Dai Kaku Zyu Car GoGoV Jet Time Ginga Mega Oh |
I watched the Mega vs Car movie and it was pretty mediocre. Not the worst of the VS movies, thankfully, but not very good either. The two series just don't mesh well. Also, the outcome was kind of stupid and predictable.

I've spent more time on Kamen Rider than Sentai this week, but I finished Carranger and knocked out some Zyuranger. A few episodes past the Dora-Satan-Franke mini arc. Also working on a Jetman review for my blog.

Just finished the first thirteen episodes of Dynaman. Pardon the expression, but I had a blast.

I can't really say if ending a little faster has really helped them that much yet, but I do appreciate having a few more gimmicky monsters. Episode 13 was particularly fun in that regard. Speaking of the monsters, it seems that they have done away with the primordial soup exposition scenes. I'm more than okay with this as it means more time for Megiddo and Chimera. |
