Actually...No Game No Life doesn't have even hints of incest. It is one of the reasons I like No Game No Life.
But if there really is less of that going on going forward, well, that is at least good. This guy's shows are always weirdly sexual in any case. As long as it's not incest it probably won't weird me out that much, I doubt it can really do much to top YKA's lesbian bears eating up the protagonists' yuri juices after coming before the lesbian bear court. (Jesus. I swear that's not an euphemism. The show is just weird.) |

Also, were we watching the same NGNL? Pretty sure Shiro was in love romantically with Sora even if he didn't really reciprocate it (even saying he and her didn't bathe because with their psychic link or whatever made it impossible for one to bathe alone and Sora didn't want to chat with Chris Hanson for bathing with his sister). Then again maybe I'm just conflating the lolicon fanservice (why the fuck are there so many pantyshots of an 11 year old?!) with incest fanservice. Either way it's still an unsettling and creepy aspect of the show. |

And I mean, maybe? I tend to be pretty turned off by incest (and by extension i tend to pick up on hints of that a lot, even when it may not 100% be there). I found NGNL to have that aspect be pretty nonexistent. They were close, but it never got creepy from what I remember (watched it like around a year ago, maybe my memory isn't 100% up to date but at least that's what I remember). What amazes me the most about it even is that they're not even related by blood, and while grosser shows may have used that to justify running rampant with it NGNL didn't. Which I respect. On the other hand, yeah there was a fair amount of unnecessary fanservice, especially with Shiho. The reason is Japan. But yeah...it may be conflating those two things, or maybe it was very incestuous and I just never noticed. Which in either case, is for the best. |
So is YKA a parody of a hentai? Because "Lesbian Bear Storm" sounds like a parody of a hentai. Or an actual hentai. Goddamnit Japan...
But yeah even if you pick up on incest subtexts, they'll soon be dropped as even more shit comes your way. Especially with Ringo and the target of her obsession. Because it's stops being "innocent creepy" (the general kind of creepy you get from the scenario of a highschooler who's hot for teacher) and starts being... Well... Let's just say she has a complex based on an event that happened before she was born and that fucked up her psyche. |
Not really, it's pretty much all weird allegory for homosexuality. The bears represent gayness. And the lesbians, also represent gayness. There's stuff about bullying and conformity and acceptance/forgiveness, romance...It's, you know, all just filtered through a lot of weirdness.
Like the stuff I mentioned earlier about the juices. You know the weird ass "Survival Strategy" sequences in Penguindrum? How they're weird and sort of come out of nowhere? It's kind of like that. The rest of the series is pretty weird also, but it only gets really out there during those parts. |
Well I'm 6 episodes into Penguindrum.
That Ringo sure has some issues. So it's just her sister's diary and she's trying to replicate everything she did with Tabuki...? Really didn't see that coming. Some issues, man. |

Finally they're doing a new Full Metal Panic anime. |

I'm up to episode 10 now. She did the thing with the cake in 8...I'm assuming that's what you refer to, because if she goes even further than that in the future, maaaaaaaaaan. Still more than half the series to go though, so I guess she has time.
Episode 9 was trippy too. Library, Broiler...confusing, but I think I may be starting to get it. Maybe. Nice to finally see the pink hair dude and Double H make appearances, anyway. I had been wondering what their deal was. |

But it still gets more fucked when we learn about how Tabuki knew Momoka. Also, creepy twin rabbit boys. And yes. The Child Broiler. I should rewatch this crazy train. ...Hey that works with the train symbolism in the show. |

Funimation has started a Kickstarter to try and give Escaflowne a new dub:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...b-for-the-clas I'm all for the new dub and I hope this succeeds. Some of the rewards are pretty awesome, but I just don't have the money for this sort of thing. |
Funimation is using a kickstarter now? I can understand Animeigo doing kickstarters since they are way smaller company and they don't have the money to pick up new titles like they used too. However Funimation is one of the biggest anime companies in the US. I don't know about you, but it seems odd for them to do this.

A new Full Metal Panic anime? Cool beans; I've read about how the story progressed in the light novels and it's some interesting sci-fi. I'm curious to see if this will be done the justice it deserves or not.
@Guyver Spawn: Escaflowne so needs a new dub, but you have to remember anime just isn't as big these days. Funi doing a Kickstarter may not seem like good business sense, but when you factor in how much dubs cost, as well as the work hours that go into said dubs I can see why they would do this. Here's hoping ol' Escaflowne gets new life with a dub that allows it to reach a new audience as well as reconnect with old fans too. Since we're talking Esca here's its intro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VfU4A0Qs6M EDIT: Yes I'm aware that there are more means to get anime these days, but it's just not as prevalent in the public couscous as it once was. Again I'm rooting for both the Esca redub and the new FMP to do well. |
I know dubbing takes up a lot of work, but Funimation never use Kickstarter when they would redub DBZ. I feel like big companies using Kickstarter comes off greedy to me.
As for recent anime that I watched, I watch Battle Royal High School (not to be confused with Battle Royale) with a group of friends. The plot makes no sense, but it's still very fun to watch. Very over the top and gory. Imagine if Fist of the North Star was set in a High School. I seen it before last year and it was fun watching it again. The whole anime has a lot of random scenes that made my friends go WTF at different times :lol. Quote:

I think it is an interesting idea to get a dub to something niche, which Escaflowne is. It's just not equitable enough to warrant doing a new dub. We'll see how it goes. My problem is what happens to the money of those who join in if the Kickstarter fails? Do they forfeit their money? Or will they get the amount refunded? |

Extremely happy that Symphogear's confirmed to be getting both a 4th and a 5th season. Figured they'd get another, but not two in one shot.
|
So the current season is in its last stretch now, one month to go...
Divine Gate is increasingly and amazingly terrible. Before it was mostly just the plot, characters, and just...really, wow, the entire thing. Episode 7 is one of the worst things I have ever seen. Lately the art and animation has also dipped into the idea of being awful too, though, so hey, thanks, studio pierrot. Seriously. In the latest episode an entire scene remained static while a character on screen, without moving his mouth at all, spoke. A bit later one character started talking, but mid sentence they stopped animating her and the character next to her started moving her mouth. It was pretty amazing. It's good though, it's so bad it's worth laughing about. So hey, ha ha. Dimension W, on the other hand, is pretty bad, but just bad enough to be bad. It's just...bland with super archetypal characters with the most typical voice actors. I don't like its art direction and none of its plots mean anything to me. Man this anime displeases me. Koukaku no Pandora isn't any good. I don't really like it and I kinda wish I weren't watching it, but it's largely inoffensive. It's more not good than it is actually bad. Art is, though. Thankfully those three are the only ones I'm watching this time that are pretty meritless. I started watching World Trigger again, since the filler's over, and well, it's World Trigger. Fairly dragged and padded out, but not horrible. Assassination Classroom has been pretty good, but it still doesn't really do much for me. I don't care a lot about either but neither is bad. Durarara has been kind of losing me, too...it's...fine, but man where did their art and animation budget go. And I just...don't know. It's been like a year since x2 started, I wonder if I would be more invested if they'd just aired the whole thing last year. Dagashi Kashi, Oshiete Galko-chan and Sekkou Boys are all pretty fun. None are exactly mindblowing pieces of art, but they're pretty entertaining and funny all the same. And Erased is, of course, still pretty great. The climax is coming soon and I can't wait for it to be resolved. I just hope it's worth it. |
Dimension W was on Toonami last night and I thought it was pretty cool so far.

A good bit of my beef with Dimension W admittedly lies with its cast, so I've wondered if a good dub with voices that don't get on my nerves would be any better. I watched a bit of the dubbed first episode, and it was...fine, better than the Japanese I guess because I don't like it. Still not super fond of it though.
Anyway! So I just finished Mawaru Penguindrum. I, I don't really know what to say about it. I will say I liked it. I liked it just. So much. Really great series. It's the kind of series that I really need to rewatch. Really really really. I'd love to do it as soon as possible, but so many other things to do...there is so much to this show. Pretty incredible. Seriously begging for a rewatch. There are some elements I wish they'd done more with or explained better (the library, Mario...also why doesn't Mario have a penguin...? Why did Masako mention Project M early on...) but in the grand scheme of things it's mostly small things. Really liked this show. |

EDIT: I decided to do the Escaflowne kickstarter and chose The Empress/$300 level. |

i thought the old fox kids dub edit it and cut it to make the male the lead cause if remeber correctly the main lead was female protagonist and edit so it was male and so they could sell toys. i would prefer a re-dub of uncut version.
|
My point was that it's clearly not impossible to get the older dub to work with the HD masters if another company is going to do that. It probably requires a hell of a lot of work, but its less that its "impossible" and more "Funi can't be bothered/don't want to".

I'd rather have a new dub that is accurate to the source material, matches the new masters, doesn't have its sound effects and music lowered, and Dilandau actually sounds psychotic. Anyway, I spent Tues and Wed watching Psycho Pass again since the new season comes out next week and I'm seeing the movie on the 15th. |

EDIT: Okay, so the UK versions are going to include both cuts. The uncut director's cuts will be the video you get if you watch the show subbed. If you are watching it dubbed, they are going through and cutting out the additional footage so that the video track matches the audio. |
Started watching a few anime today. Watched the first episodes of Suite Precure (despite an unexciting start, fairly fun. i like the cures' personalities), Mitsudomoe (completely insane), Mirai Nikki (interesting enough), and Digimon Savers (i don't like the colors and some of the lip syncing is weird, but it was ok?).
Mitsudomoe shows the greatest promise out of these four I'm starting. Just the opening was a bit too much, so it obviously followed the the show itself is completely off the rails. It's almost equally as funny as it is horrible. |
Am now watching Brave Police J-Decker.

Got this today:
http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...pscumsgvef.jpg We spent the day watching the whole thing. Positives: It goes into the origins behind the Sybil System. Animation was about the same as the first season despite being done by a different studio. The paradox of the Sybil system debate. Negatives: Characters are pretty much there just to die. The main villain was lackluster. The new Inspector girl is a little bitch!! The plot was rushed. No stand alone episodes. Very little in the way of philosophical conversations. Overall, while it wasn't as good as the first season, it was still a pretty solid season in the end. It's biggest issues come from how rushed it was, which never allowed there to be a deep intricate plot, good long philosophical debates, and very little in the way of character development. Also, the Kamui was not even half as interesting as Makishima as he ended up being a gimmick more than a character. Nevertheless, it was still enjoyable with some good action and the stuff it does worked well. Well, outside of the new Inspector girl, she needs to die. |
Mitsudomoe is a horrible, horrible show.
Two thumbs up. |
Has anyone ever watched Gankutsuou? It has been one of my favorite anime series since it first came out and I watched it 23 times over when it was airing in Japan and then when I bought the Japanese DVDs (which were raw). However, for some reason I never got around to watching Geneon's DVDs even though I bought them when they first came out. Well, I finally decided it was time to watch the show again since I have been sorely lacking on my anime viewing and my god, it is so amazing to rewatch this show after so long. I know everything that is going to happen, and yet, I feel like I am experiencing it for the first time. I also have to hand it to Bang Zoom for an excellent English dub. I wasn't a fan of it when I first saw it in English thanks to having the Japanese voice ingrained into my head, but I figured after all of this time not watching it I should be fine and I was right. Sure, Jamieson Pierece is no Joji Nakata, but he still does an incredible Monte Cristo that has taken me by surprise. In fact, all of the voice actors have done a wonderful job with their characters and I love that they try to pronounce the names and stuff properly as opposed to the way the Japanese did it. It is a shame I don't have time to watch anymore because I would love to just watch the whole thing in one sitting. I still hope we get this on BD some day, but thankfully Geneon's DVDs look and sound fantastic despite being nearly ten years old.
|
I watched it a few years ago. A lot of people seem to love it. Though I wasn't particularly moved by it, I did think it was good. I think maybe I didn't "get" it or something. It's something I gotta rewatch at some point.
