It was, but Shinobi was a one box figure at a slightly higher price point, not a two box, body and armor style figure, so it's understandable that they remolding that might not have fit the budget

Although the actual suit for Shinobi is a retool/kitbash, the SO-DO figure actually uses almost no new parts. The funny thing is that SO-DO Shinobi actually looks like a somewhat original, design because the Ghost parts aren't really present, since a SO-DO Ghost mold doesn't exist. Most of the details are stickers, whereas with Falchion almost everything is actually molded.

In other words, even though Falchion isn't the first example of a Ghost kitbash, his mold is almost entirely brand new.

Unrelated to the new reveals, but has anyone tried any of these stands Tokullectibles has for So-Do?

Those are more just Candy Toy stands in general rather than for just SO-DO. I have a set of gray/black ones for the SHODO I have since they don't come with stands. They are great and come with different textured walls and connector pieces to make different platforms to suit your needs. I would ask how many stands there are because AmiAmi sells them in an 18 pack for $12 more than that price.

Do they use a 3mm peg to attach to the figure? I'm not a big fan of the little claw used to hold figures.

Those are Shokugan (Candy toy) Bases made by Bandai. They're designed to work with just about any Bandai candy toy. Mostly designed for Shodo and G-Frame because they don't come with stands, but they fit SO-DO just a well. They do plug directly into the figures to. They're basically mini Figuarts stands. Also come with wall pieces so with enough of them you can make a display.

That listing is for only 3, so they're $10 each. If that's all you need and don't want extras that's fine enough, but the case is 18 for about $40 on AmiAmi. There's also 2 colors (clear and smokey) and 3 different wall options per color.

I could probably get by on three, and maybe just put two characters on two, so I'll probably get this set.

I usually can only get 1 and a half on a single stand. With 3 chained together you can probably get 5-6 max.
