That just got released on Blu-Ray over here so I'm sure it'll come out on BD in the states eventually. Haven't seen it myself, but I should probably check it out as I've heard nothing but good things about it.

Osomatsu is hilarious

Finished Gankutsuou. God damn I love this show. Seriously, this is hands down one of the top three best anime series ever made, if not THE best anime. The only other series that can even compare to it are Escaflowne and Ghost in the Shell SAC.
EDIT: Started watching a series called Gungrave today that I got on DVD about a year ago. We've watched the first two volumes (8 episodes) and it's all right. The first episode was utter garbage and I was ready to turn it off right then there, but it has gotten better since there. Not by much, but it is watchable. It's pretty much Berserk, but with gangsters instead of knights. I'm glad I didn't pay for it though. EDIT #2: Well, we just watched episodes 9-16 of Gungrave and this show just keeps getting worse. None of the characters are even remotely likable and they are all so damn dumb. If anyone actually had an intelligent thought the whole thing would have already been over. Why Brandon was even friends with a loser scumbag like Harry to begin with bewilders me because he was not even a good character from the start. It also doesn't help that this plot is so generic and has been done better before. Oh, and yeah, I think episode 1 is part of the problem. It pretty much tells you where this story is going to go, so spending 15 episodes to get there felt like a total waste of time. Plus, it was very misleading on what this show was going to be about. It looked like it was some futuristic science fiction western (think Trigun) and instead, it's a crime drama that is mostly set in a more realistic world with the dullest characters imaginable. |
Psycho Pass The Movie - I'll probably do a quick video review of it tomorrow, but it was fantastic. It was better than the second season as it felt like a long episode from the first. Unfortunately, it does get predictable, but that is just the nature of the beast. Nevertheless, I look forward to see what lies in store for more Psycho Pass be it another season or movie. Overall, an enjoyable ride that adds more to the Sybil System (and the worst decisions to ever make), Akane, and Kogami. An 8/10 stars.

I'm seven episodes into Mirai Nikki.
Eh. Even though it really, really wants me to, I just can't take this series seriously with its ultra exaggerated super animu characters. Rei was pretty much total shit. I feel like if this series could just grow some restraint, I could really like it. But as it is it's just way 2edgy4me. Super exaggerated characters with super tragix backstories I couldn't give two craps about and of course the spooky stalker yandere. It's all kind of obnoxious. I don't dislike it, really, but...eh. Why must it be so edgy and animu. I did like the henshin dude. Too bad he sucked. |
At least it's theme song is nice.
WHERE'S MY RYUKI/MIRAI NIKKI FULL MAD? |
That is true. The opening and ending themes are pretty great, as is the ost in general. So...so edgy though. And the character design is so flashy.
I also really can't stand Yuno's voice, so that's fun. And I just got to Akise...god, This Guy. He's So Smooth. His voice also bugs me though. I don't like instantly recognizing the voice actors in my anime, so I'm watching this like "oh hey Tabuki from Penguindrum, fancy seeing you again so soon." The MurMur parts at the end are the best part of this anime. edit: Oh gawd. I just realized Hinata is Osaka from Azumanga Daioh. Noooooooooooooo. |

Yeah, Future Diary.
I want to like it. I am not succeeding at that very much. |
Watched the first season of Love Live! Not sure it quite lives up to its hype and it's certainly no Idolm@ster (though far better than Cinderella Girls), but its certainly a fun series I'd recommend to idol fans. I quite like its harsh reality approach to certain things rather than being a straightforward rags to riches thing so to speak. Songs are good, though the CGI dance sequences are just as distracting as I expected them to be. OVA was some really weird shit.
So yeah, a fun time was had and I'm looking forward to season 2 and the movie next. Also - Kotori is best girl and all other answers are flat out wrong. |
Halfway through Parasyte. Did end up going with the dub, and since it's not done on Toonami yet I've just been taking my time. Set my cable box to record episodes a while back so once I'm caught up to that point I can switch over to the bigger screen heh.
Have decided Erased will be the next show I tackle. |
My video review:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOlUlsPOugM EDIT: Finally mustered up the strength to finish Gungrave off and wow, those last 10 episodes were terrible. Not only did they completely character assassinate the only decent character in the show by making him do stuff that was out of his character (Bear), but they also gave him a terrible looking design to boot. In fact, all of the "Superior" designs were awful. I get that this is based off a video game, but not every design translates well from game to animation. The show as a whole was awful and I kind of wish I had stopped watching it after episode 1 because the pay off in the end was not worth it. Everything suffered prequel syndrome as everything that occurred was just going through the motions to get the characters where they are supposed to be rather than actually build them up. Lastly, they couldn't even make the battles in the last 10 episodes even remotely stylish, which is a shame since they had super human characters. It was all generic gun battles. I will never touch this show ever again and it is one of the worst animes I have watched in a long time. |
I've been looking through the anime that are starting up in the spring season, compared to my current 11 shows, spring is looking pretty light. AssClass is continuing into spring, from what I hear World Trigger may either be ending or going back to filler at the end of March, in which case I'll drop it again. Mercifully everything else is ending, which is fine by me. Rather mixed season.
As far as spring goes it's looking like I'm only watching Sakamoto, Terra Formars, and the new Trigger anime. Kinda eyeing Mayoiga and Kuma Miko but not sure yet. Twin Star Exorcists looks decent, but studio Pierrot has burned me far too many times. If it's gonna be another Tokyo Ghoul or worse, a Divine Gate, I want nothing to do with it. Some other shows look promising but there's little I feel like committing to watching. Was kinda interested in watching Ace Attorney, until I heard who they got to voice the main character, at which point my interest dropped to the negatives. Eh. Well, less shows means more free time. Winter has tired me out. A six series season sounds manageable. |
After completely writing it off without giving it a shot, I started watching One Piece earlier. I'm already addicted.

I'm still pretty early on. They just recruited Nami. I thought about reading the manga so many times, but I didn't feel like buying all of it and I hate reading manga online.

I haven't post in this thread in a while. So anime that I watch this month so far.
The Boy and the Beast - This movie was fantastic. I saw it when it came out in theaters a few weeks ago. Really good characters, amazing animation and I love the world that they created for this film. This movie made me want to watch more from Mamoru Hosoda. I only seen Summer Wars and the Digimon film that he work on. Grade: A Macross Frontier the Movie: The False Songstress and Macross Frontier: The Wings of Farewell - Both of alternate versions of the TV show and I only seen a few random episodes of the show. I really love these two movies and made me want to check out the full show. Both are awesome start to finish. I did got confused during some scenes of the movie. I would need to rewatch both again. I did like the first movie a bit more. Grade: B+ and Grade: B+ Phantom Quest Corp: I forgot that I watch this anime. Very funny and enjoyable anime. I wish it was longer since I really like the characters and story. This anime is like Buffy meets Ghostbusters. The visuals are great for a anime that is over 20 years old. The characters are very enjoyable and the anime has good laughs to offer. I do admit that they could have work the characters a bit better. I would have love to see the romantic relationship between Ayaka and Lieutenant Karino. Overall solid anime with some flaws. Grade: B |
Need to get back watching Idolmaster, I guess this what happens when one episodes makes you stop watching and then other things get in the way so it takes you a while to get back.
Probably going to need other Idol anime after that as well. |

I never seen much of the show. I saw them at a event hosted by a group of friends and I was going by what they told me.

Every episode of Mitsudomoe I watch, I go "Okay, this is it, there is no way this show could ever get any more fucked up than this, no way it could sink any lower, nothing it can throw at me now would surprise me." And then every single episode it proves me wrong. This show is absolutely horrible, and the definitive proof that Anime Was a Mistake. I love it so much. I don't think I've watched a show that has been able to make me laugh out loud so often and so consistently in a long, long time.
I love Mitsuba in particular. She's a total piece of shit and the whole universe hates her. She could not be any more entertaining. I think I may just like this character type in general--she reminds me a lot of Nico from Love Live! (also my favorite character for pretty much the same reason), times a hundred. Real funny shit. edit: Holy shit. Just, holy shit. Episode 11...Sugisaki's mom...just...holy shit. When it finally sank in what was happening I just had to stop, hold my head in my hands and have the longest, saddest laugh I've ever had. Because despite what I just said, I was still thinking "I'm wise to your tricks, Mitsudomoe, you may shock me with your fucked-up-ness, but I can handle it by now." Then it hits me with this shit and I just...I had to admit my final defeat. This show is completely insane and there is nothing I can do about it. Except laugh uncontrollably because it is just too god damn crazy. |
Violence Jack - I rewatch all three Violence Jack OVAs last night. I haven't seen them in a long time and it was one hell of a experience. I hated Corpse Party: Tortured Souls for having weak characters and was grotesque for the sake of being grotesque (I also found it to be very boring too). I feel like Violence Jack had some level substance to it unlike Corpse Party. I found Violence Jack himself to be awesome and the blood & gore was top notch. Not to mention I really like the post apocalyptic setting to this anime. It really capture the mood of this anime. It was dark, gritty and extreme. Just when you think you're finally safe, you're are fucked! There is nowhere to escape.
I think the idea behind the dark and violent nature of everything that happens in this anime. This anime shows that everyone is sick and violent because the world is no more. It shows that our world gives us to act civil and give us discrimination. With human civilization being no more, we become savages that we once where from thousands years ago. This anime does have more to it than what most people give it credit for. Not to mention I never read the manga and I have nothing to compare it to (I never found a compete translations of it). What I hate about this anime is that it ends with a cliffhanger and we never got a new one in the last 26 years. Also fuck Bennett the Sage for not giving a full review of this anime. The guy spent 30 minutes on why he can't review the anime when he review stuff like Legend of the Overfiend. Yes, Violence Jack is one of the most violent anime out there. It makes Elfen Lied look like Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. However you still had stuff out there that is way worst like Boku No Pico ;). Overall I enjoy Violence Jack and it's obviously not for everyone. My grades on each Violence Jack OVA. Harem Bomber - Grade: C. Evil Town - Grade: B Hell's Wind - Grade: B+ |
I'm up to episode 11 of Mirai Nikki.
This show is dumb. |

Nope. The Violence Jack OVAs never got finished. Both Devilman and Violence Jack need proper anime adaptions. I can't see a proper Violence Jack anime working these days due to newer censorship rules in anime these days. Newer anime like Akame Ga Kill, Blood C, Parasyte and Corpse Party are still very violent, but not on the same level as Violence Jack was.

I just finished the episode with the guy stuck in the box on that island, right after the Captain Kuro arc. |
I haven't read or follow One Piece since 2010. I just keep up with series that go on forever. That's why I stop watching Shin Chan, Sgt Frog and Case Close (Detective Conan) because there was too many episodes for me to catch up. I even drop both Bleach, Inuyasha and Naruto: Shippuuden because they got worst as the longer that they went on.
|
Honestly, just read the manga. During it's fifth season (based on Funimation's releases) they start doing one episode per manga chapter, which is just down right unbearable. There is no reason for it to be that way.
|
Yeah, so I've heard. I'm really tempted to go that route, but I don't feel like buying all of that manga and I'm not a fan of reading manga online. Right now i'm still early on though, so I guess we'll see how I feel the further I get.
As long as it doesn't get DBZ Buu arc dragged out, I think I'll be fine. If that's the case though, it's very likely that I switch over. |

I guess I should get to what I'm watching, and I will in this post. But first...

I'm actually a big TV-DVD person, though one might think otherwise after seeing my comment about wanting to finish Ohranger before any DVDs get the episodes pulled. Through DVDs, I'm finally watching some series I've seen at least part of, but am finally committing to watching through from start to finish. Those include Dragon Ball (subbed), InuYasha (subbed), Cowboy Bebop (dubbed), and Digimon Tamers (dubbed). I'm also watching Samurai Pizza Cats on DVD, which I don't think I saw in its entirety because I don't think the entire series aired here. I'm also working on finishing the first GARO anime, which I actually find myself liking more as I watch more. |

...For the record I don't follow One Piece but I thought it was done well. |
The Mitsudomoe OVA went to a dark place. Them's OVAs.
And I started Zouryouchuu! I didn't expect them to spend the entire time on the Gachi Rangers, but shit, I ain't complaining. It was pretty hilarious. Maybe there's some specific sentai tropes it was parodying I may have missed, but as a general parody of tokusatsu (especially the old timey ones) it was pretty hilarious. I laughed so hard at the kaijin's bubble attack and crappy death effects, it is so perfectly Showa. Really funny stuff. Loved the ending as well (and how they assigned each character to their favorite Ranger) and Miyashita as Gachi Green was also hilarious. Dem callbacks. Guess it's a bit of a shame that this 8 episode season spent one whole one on stuff that's not Actually Mitsudomoe, but it was worth it. |
