I started Zeta Gundam now that I finished the MSG movies. Man, Kamille's motivations don't resonate with me. I can only assume there's hidden history to him, otherwise impulsive does not begin to explain his actions. He just comes across as psychotic since we haven't seen the "normal" him, only him once he starts acting out. I don't dislike him, but I have no read on his character at all besides "doesn't like to be bullied."

Kamille is my second favorite Gundam pilot, but it does take him about 10 episodes before he really starts to shine.

I will say, it was infinitely ammusing and satisfying to see him just fucking flip out the very first time we see his name mocked. It isn't even really mocked, but you can tell from his outburst it's clearly something he's been teased about a lot for what's barely more than a mention to set him off. I think the oppression of the Titans is too much of an informed attribute to start. The narraton said they were bad, but we weren't treated to any scenes of them being all that bad along with it.

The only thing I don't get though is why he totally ignored his mother. In MSG, Amuro became estranged from his mom because the war was changing him into someone he wasn't, and he wasn't dealing with it especially well. Here Kamille just brushes off his mom like he doesn't give a shit. He comes across incredibly disaccociated, and really seems like how Amuro was halfway through MSG, but without all the events that turned Amuro that way. But I am only three episodes in.

I'm not sure if you reached the moment yet, but Kamille also says he is autistic, which adds to him being the way he is.

He outright said it? I always thought it was sort of implicit in the way he acted and I don't remember him saying it outright.

Yeah, I can't remember which episode it is. Plus, it might depend if you are watching it dubbed or subbed since he says it in Japanese. I couldn't even make it through 5 minutes of the dub to Zeta. Hell, Quattro's speech from later on in the series is so boring in English.

Quattro's speech in English at least makes for an opening rap verse.

After enjoying the first 4 episodes to A Series of Unfortunate Events we watched episodes 5-7 of IBO's second season. They were good, but man I feel really bad for Takaki. I'm glad he did what he did at the end of the last episode though. I'm also surprised that he doesn't hold any hard feelings towards McGillis, but then, they never really showed those two together, so he may. I hope we learn more about the story McGillis was telling Mika about though, because that sounded interesting.

Those are also creepy, but playing creeper's advocate, at least they're usually clad in fairly interesting bikini-fied Gundam armour.

I'm actually going to argue Super Fumina's creepier in-context. Just... no, no, that's a line you don't cross, fictional characters be damned.

I'm not a rainbow-haired feminist by any stretch of the imagination, but that's not an appropriate thing for a children's show, especially with how it's treated as merely weird instead of the creepy stalker thing it is.

I mean, you make an eerily life-like figure of a girl you like in a maid's outfit, put it on display in a public event and see what that nets you. Heck, having the thing exist at all is bad enough...

I like Build Fighters, Try, not so much. This is part of why.

Watched the first Episode of IBO, twas good. I like how blunt mika is. Eugene is a fun character. Just in general I'm liking most the characters so far, except Kudelia but I figure she just needs time to grow on me.

New IBO designs have been revealed. Barbatos Lupus Rex looks beastly (in a very good way). It makes sense for there to be parts of the Hashimal integrated into the new design, they did have the "corpse" at their disposal. It also looks like we'll have another giant Graze to battle, but this one looks leaps and bounds above the other.

Man that 2nd one is really giving me Orbital Frame vibes.

Blech, Rex looks awful. The Lupus was so much nicer. Maybe I'll be won over by the animation, but it looks like just too much. Especially the Hashmal tail looks dumb just sorta stuck on for no reason. The proportions are so off now. Giant limbs, tiny torso.

The Graze is okay.

If it makes you feel better, I only hate it as an evolution of the Lupus, which was everything this design is only better. As a standalone design I think it's just fine and even kinda cool really.

It's just hard to not look at it and see Lupus with a bunch of thrown-on parts. I will say, though, like the Lupus the model kits look far superior to the line art.

I second that. I think the Gundams and some of the mobile suits look super cool, but other ones look kinda bland to me.

Man, so I'm like eight or nine eps in Zeta Gundam, and the slap-happiness has become farcical. It's hard to take seriously. Granted MSG had lots of slapping, but it was usually to bring someone who was frantic, deranged, or otherwise not of normal sound mind back down to reality. Bright would slap Amuro out of his stupors, not simply because he disagreed with him. He'd yell at him or lock him up if that were the case. Kamille is getting beaten unconcious by people who simply don't know how to express themselves or make a point without neanderthal violence. I kinda hope Kamille just gets pushed so far he snaps and murders everyone in the AEUG because at this point I feel bad for the kid. The only one who kinda supports him in a tough-love-but-not-abusive way is Char, who just sort of lets events take their toll on him as punishment for his actions.

Sometimes the only way to get through to a child is to slap them though. The Wong Slap is awesome!!

That's not getting through to anyone. Maybe in a bizzare, inhuman world of aliens maybe, but with real people you can't savagely beat someone and expect them to come around. (as shown by the fact that Kamille didn't come around) Let alone an angsty, clearly emotionally stunted child. You're just going to turn him into a barely functional sociopath who only responds to and with violence.

I can only assume, given his history with depression, Tomino was not in a wholey stable state of mind when writing this show and it shows. The people don't interact like people, they interact like conflicting, volitile emotions that react violently when they come in contact with each other.

The show definitely feels sloggy right now. I don't know what the ultimate goal is, (defeat the Titans I think) or what sort of paths anyone's really one. I don't know if Kamille is in a coming of age story that will change him, or if his ideals are being tested and he's going to stick by his beliefs and not change. Nobody else even has a story. The one girl who defected from the Titans did so so quickly and smoothly I wasn't even aware of the transition. She's just with the AEUG now, with barely a distrusting look. In fact she's more welcome and supported than Kamille is.

It's so weird and... alien.

This week's episode of IBO.... war crimes.... war crimes everywhere. Defintley gives McGillis' goal of reforming Gjallerhorn some legitimacy.
