I'm pretty sure you have it backwards. The Overlord of Darkness was the end boss, the guy Agito Rider Kicked. He dressed in black the entire series. The Overlord of Darkness created humanity and the Overlord of Light gave humanity the power to overcome darkness, Agito, as his final act. That's kind the whole point of the show. Humanity is inherently evil, but has the power to surpass that evil.

While the wiki agrees with me, I'm downloading the better subs of that episode to double check.

Well that missing brother subplot came back up faster than I expected. I definitely knew he wasn't gonna be just missing, but I never expected him to be so closely tied into the plot. Including inventing the cards that give people superpowers. Where does one get the, uh...'technology' to make that stuff anyway.

Much like a good chunk of Kamen Rider belts and gimmicks it is never explained in detail just where the belts and decks actually came from.

The lack of explanation around most Drivers really annoys me. But then on the other hand, when they do try and explore them, it's so poorly handled I just wish they hadn't bothered.

Ah, figures. Though I'm at a point where it kind of amuses me that no one in the shows bothers to question these things, anyway.

From what I've heard from people that actually like Faiz, the show just never adds up with a lot of unexplained stuff. What I've watched of Faiz was actually pretty good.

W, again, did this best IMO since the drivers aren't magical or the most amazing things in the world. They're devices built by the people who made the memories to filter out the damaging effects of memory use.

Boom, no convoluted or overdramatic, enigmatic history, no ignoring that it exists. Just a simple, practical explanation that makes perfect sense.

Side note: I always liked how the Sonozaki's use Drivers as well, for the exact same reason. It really makes Gaia Memories seem like an unstable science, and that the more powerful ones have side effects without a driver.

Agito falls apart because when you think about it things don't add up. You start asking questions the show never answers, you start thinking there's more to a character and then there isn't. Many more examples exist.

Why did the Overlord's do what they did? Never explained. Why doesn't Agito care about human life? Never explained. Why does he not care about what happens as a rider until he makes the connection with his sister? Never explained.

I think that's why I generally prefer tech-based Riders, because the belts generally have the underlying idea of "oh, well someone built it obviously." I just wish more series gave a viable explanation.

If you really wanted to know the slightly less vague details on the belts' and Advent cards origins but don't mind spoilers from the endgame:

Shiro created the Rider belts in lab along with Kagawa making the Alternative belts in the same lab. We find out later on that Yui can survive in the mirror world without any nasty side affects like other people who usually dissolve. Along with the fact that Kanzaki shiro is also a ghost with no physical form and appears in the Mirror world with Yui, it could be inferred that Shiro used either his or Yui's DNA to create the Rider Belts and Kagawa used that DNA as a base for the Alternatives. Its not completely crazy since all the contract monsters are all reminiscent of child Yui's drawing's

Plus Japan just seems better at sci-fi in general. I've yet to see a fantasy toku series with a coherent and thought out mythology.

Hibiki 12

Asumu accidentally discovers the Hibiki-Cave, and soon discovers more about the battles between the Makamou and the Oni.

Oh and hey! Proper explanations for disc animals! Also, Midori turns out to be way more important than I thought.

Asumu finds more similarities between himself and Hibiki. Feeling bad about a situation he couldn't stop. Hibiki shows these souped-up Makamou why you can't just get by on a power-up without training!

Then he defeats what appears to be a giant mollusk-tree. Bizarre. And Mochida becomes friends with Ibuki's sidekick, who I never realized was going to same school as Asumu and Mochida. Maybe it wasn't mentioned before...

Hibiki 13

Asumu's got a bad stomach ache it seems. And the Makamou got themselves another power-up. One which incites cannibalism, which I assume also makes the cannibal-Makamou stronger. Oh hey, a new Oni! He didn't stick around for too long, though.

So, Asumu has appendicitis? Hmm.

Ryuki 4

Shinji works...at a weird place. Anyway him followig Ren down the street, calling him Ron for five minutes was hilarious.

So Shinji, believes Ren is up to no good, but the chick assures him that Ren may be a shithead, but his hearts in the right place.

So Shinji and Ron become sort allies it looks like. Have a cool tag-team fight at the end against those two monsters too.

Ah and the first hint of another rider! They didn't show much of him, but I'd say he looks pretty crabby.

Yeah, the next Rider's contract monster is Mr. Krabs.

Can he also start fires under water?

I started OOO back up again as I got disctracted by Den-O and never got far. I just finished episode 03 and none of the characters have really stood out for me yet. I'm sure that will change as I get more invested in the series, but right now no one really 'wows' me.

I think also I saw a gorilla in Bikini Bottom once.

Yay! Something to look forward to! I love the OOO design and, for some reason the Ride Vendors, so at least visually I've been pleased so far. I didn't mean to sound so negative originally.

No need to apologize, gosh :lol The Greeds become better, and once Date shows up.. Oh it gets so good!

When the show starts most of the characters may seem somewhat flat or even unlikable, but if there's somthing OOO excels at is character development, as you advance in the show most of the characters will become very memorable.

OOOs first twenty or so episodes are rubbish. The show was so dull, slow, confusing, I was just ready to give up. Then Date appears and the show pretty much never comes down from a solid eleven from there. The show has problems, the main villains for example are largely worthless, the shows plot is largely a giant throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks mess, Eiji has WAY too many forms and the whole dynamic they try between Eiji and Ankh never really clicks until the climactic arcs but overall OOO is one of the best Rider shows ever, it just has a terrible terrible start.

The Bikini Bottomers actually had better powers than most of the Atlanteans in DC comics.

Thanks for the OOO information, everyone! I'm glad to hear things pick up and the characters actually get some development. I've got a good reason to stick it through now instead of wandering off to another series like last time.

Usual Wizard comments from me: Shunpei is pointless, Haruto transforms in front of everyone despite the fact that the police is looking for him, and the driver is noisy.
The arc in these episode weren't bad per se, but having the gates completely disconnected from the phantoms means that neither of the two sides get any sort of development, I heared many people say that Wizard would have benefited from dropping the two-episode arcs and I see why.
Other than that not much to say, Haruto, Koyomi and Medusa are still pretty cool but everybody else at this point is meh...

Reiko's hospitalized. And it's all due to this new rider. Scissors. How is it that Ron automatically knows the Rider name of every rider that shows up?

Ren doesn't seem to hesitate in fighting him, while Shinji doesn't seem to see the point in fighting another rider. He seems to be under the belief that this is a friendlier series where they all team up.

Scissors is totally the detective, though. Shinji....giving Scissors valuable information on the phone. That's incredibly stupid!

Wow....creepy, Scissors stores the corpse of the dude who owns the shop in the wall.

Makamou vs Makamou! Or two regular makamou vs the berserk cannibalistic one. Though the two normal ones go down without a hitch once Hibiki and Ibuki arrive. And so

I always took it as Ren having met or heard about the other riders since he's been fighting before Ryuki showed up.

Even though that doesn't quite make sense.

Watched Kuuga 10 and Faiz 11. Titan Form is so badass and awesome, I'm loving Yuusuke in Kuuga. Takumi I am really enjoying and glad he's Faiz again. I love the Orphenoch's and smart brain and intrigued with Kaixa because I hear he's a dick so I'm waiting for that part. Love the cast of both shows I'm pretty sure I'm going to dual watch these because I cannot pick.

OOO 17. Date has arrived so things should get interesting. Aesthetically, Sahgozo (sp?) is my favorite combo so far. I might have to grab the figure, despite the general issues I've read around here the OOO line has.
