Fair enough but most of the Zyuranger fights take place in random, unidentifiable, quarries and yet the American parts of MMPR always take place in established locations with identifiable features, so what the fuck are they doing? Why not keep their locations as bland as the Zyuranger ones so they can blend in together better? Oh right common sense isn't something Saban has...
the Zyuranger footage in MMPR needs a complete rework it looks like. |
Personally, the Zyu footage doesn't clash with the American footage nearly as much the B-Fighter footage in Beetleborgs. It just looks duller in comparison and a whole lot more grainy. They did generally do a good job of matching location though.
|
They did really like that one public park for quite a few of the fights. Like I said I think it was just what was cheapest and easiest sadly. Even when the Zyu footage is on a beach they sometimes still went with a park. I guess because the beaches wouldn't match up we just get to assume they moved during the fight.
|
THe only series I felt the Jp footage clashed with the PR footage was in Turbo. The Turbo suits seemed to be more neon colored and brighter compared to the CarRanger suits.

With so much new stuff out lately I've been neglecting Dragon Knight somewhat, so I'm back with episodes 19 and 20.
Sting has bought it, and there's a nice little bit of fallout coming from that. |
Food Fight is probably the best episode of MMPR so far, I loved how the World Food Peace Conference whatever the fuck it was descended into all out chaos, like it would with teenagers.
I also liked that, although stupid and goofy, the villain actually posed some kind of threat and they used both the sentai and American footage to take him down, rather than the American footage being largely disconnected. It was almost like...the episode was planned and they actually watched the sentai footage first! The only weird thing is...no Megazord fight in this episode. Not that I'm complaining. |
Ah yes, the days when there did not need to be a mech battle every freaking episode.

It depends. Some series work great with the mecha. Dai, Kaku, GoGoV, and Aba are prime examples of this. But then, Dai also took their time to get the majority of the mecha, and it was not forced in if it did not need to be, which is one of the things I loved about it. Dai is probably the only show that did not have a mech battle used in the final battle. Other show s though, especially Shinken, Bouken, Go-On, Gosei, etc, should just start naming their mecha Clusterfuck-Oh (as I made mention of in the other thread).

You know, you'd think the Power Rangers would stop hanging out with children as Rita ALWAYS targets the child that is with the Power Rangers, they are just putting them in direct danger.
Also are they using the same set for the community centre and the school? I swear they appear to be the same place. |
Quote:
I think that more due to the Zyuranger footage. The Zyurangers liked to hang out with kids all the time so i guess Saban tried to mimic them in that aspect. |
I like how rather than editing out the giant Japanese child, they just said it was all a dream at the end. What a massive waste of time that episode was.

Watching some MMPR episodes and damn i forgot how awesome it was for a 6th Ranger to have his own theme. When Dino Thunder was release i was hoping they gave the White Dino ranger a remix version of the White Ranger theme. Instead of Tiger its Dino Power.
|
I just watched some more of Dino Thunder, Legacy of Power, even as a kid i called bull on this episode. They'res no way he could have gotten that footage.
|
i didnt have a problem with the footage part so much as his 'knowledge' of everything

Just been watching MMPR season 2 vol 2 disc 4 and came up with a new how spike was born

Okay, it's not official, but it works so well. Better than trying to explain Zedd and Rita's kid. |
Speaking of that shitty Dino Thunder clipshow episode, I just assumed all the footage was from the morphin grid as in the same season Ethan and Kira look into the Grid to see the next set of Rangers and the Grid was in Hayley's Cafe, so I just took it that that was something Hayley could do.

So I started MMPR S3 and my god, these Masked Rider episodes are terrible. I am in the middle of the second episode and am bored out of my mind. There is no energy at all in them and the acting seems to be even worse than usual.

Anyway, I finished the first disc and I still cry with what they did to Junior. They really should have made Rito into something terrifying and serious instead of an A class bone head. It would have been nice given they turned both Goldar and Zedd into comical villains towards the end of S2. WIth that said, I always wondered why they couldn't just have their ninja costumes be their morphed costumes. They always looked so much cooler than the US suits which no longer made sense since there was no relation to dinosaurs at all by this point. Well, whatever, on to the next disc. OMG, Nue, what did they go to you? They turned him into the Pumpkin Rapper. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Anyway, I stand by what I said many years ago, Changing of the Zords is by far one of the best MMPR episodes ever. We get some much awesomeness in those episodes whether it be Zedd in the Command Center or Zedd fighting Tommy, to Zedd achieving most of his goal. These episodes rock and I enjoyed watching them again. My only complaint is how they just forgot about the Inscissor monster after he fled the battle. And I also just finished A Different Shade of Pink, which was also a great set of episodes. There is a lot wrong with Season 3, but at least they did a nice job of sending Kimberly off because they built up her character leaving since earlier on in the season and brought Kat in some time beforehand. On the other hand, I really really HATE the Xmas episode. I couldn't even make it beyond the first 5 minutes and then skipped through it because I remember how awful it was even when I was 14. |
Well, I just completed all of Season 3 and my god, those Alien Ranger episodes were down right terrible. The entire concept was pretty bad, but it also doesn't make sense. How come the AG Mayor and Mr Wilbur never got younger? And wouldn't Aisha's great aunt be dead when the Earth went back to its normal time? And if Aisha's family all ended up in Africa, who did Kimberly stay with? Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!!
Overall though, I enjoyed the season because it was very story driven. As I said earlier, Changing of the Zords is awesome as is nearly everything surrounding the Kat storyline. I also liked how they finally created their own minatures to do some of their own Zord footage and big monsters. It is just a shame they couldn't think of anything better to do with the Kaku footage, but at least the series ended with a bang. Now, when does the Zeo-LG set come out... |
Still Matrixbeasting Overdrive. And I must say, Flurios is a very likable villain. Probably because he doesn't put up with Norg's BS. That and when the Atlantis monster he just turned and silently walked off. Nice
So, Episode 3. Will is kind of a jerk. I know this is supposed to be a spotlight episode on Will and teamwork, but he just comes across as a douchebag. The set's look pretty nice, though. Episode 4. Dax spotlight, eh? Well, let's see if that goes better than Will's did. So, 4 Minutes in and I kind of like Dax. Sure he's smitten and that's causing the plot in this episode, but he's quite likable. I take it a running theme in OO is Spencer in disguises? Storm Megazord monster? Eh, pretty cool. So far, I honestly am enjoying this season. |
I started watching Beetleborgs today after years since it was on TV. I just gotta say, no matter how childish the series is, Frankenbeans always cracked me up and he still does.
|
I watched the first bonus disc of MMPR. The two documentaries on it were really interesting and fun. Zedd's Monster Heads was not what I remember it to be, but I still enjoyed it. I refuse to watch Alpha's Xmas though, and the Bulk & Skull thing was way too long. I know what they were going for, but still.
|
Took a break from MMPR for a while, so as such I watched a few episodes in a row to compensate.
It's kinda amusing watching the Rangers scoff at aliens, considering that not only would there be Alien Rangers after this iteration but I think this show has had almost as many aliens in it during its run as it has had human characters by this point. I mean hell, aren't Rita and the gang aliens? Plus the whole show is built around magic, and different dimensions and stuff. Aliens are the hardest part to believe? Also Bulk and Skull have to be some of the most morally conflicting characters as an adult that I've ever watched. Being that in the Mighty Morphin world the usual bully characters are the heroes and the usual hero characters are the bullies, whenever I feel like I should hate Bulk and Skull, Jason usually lands them both on their asses as laughing stocks and I can't help but feel sorry for them and wonder why they are the way they are. Obviously Saban never put that much thought into them but ironically I think they are the most interesting characters despite being there entirely for filler. Kinda makes me wish they became Rangers. The pacing is still really weird, episodes seems to spend longer establishing Rita's monsters than it does actually having them on screen, so it just feels like time wasted. But it's weird because with the way Rita goes on, it's like all these Monsters have used before, so couldn't they have given a better reason for Finster to dump exposition? Rita clearly knows what is what. I really love the Zords in this show, but I'm really not a fan of the Megazord, although brief and far apart I get way more kicks out of the individual Zords fighting uncombined. It's like I'm watching Zoids and I loved that show. I'm still not convinced by the characters, Kimberly is a sexy punk, but character focus in this show usually translates just to Rangers getting to do something Jason would usually do when morphed. And whenever you think maybe they are hinting at a relationship or a deeper friendship between core Rangers, it's isolated to that single episode as those two characters happen to work together in the morphed footage and then it's never mentioned again. |
Watched a chunk of Dragon Knight while I was on holiday (10 episodes to go) and I have to say I've completely fallen in love with this show. It won't surpass Ryuki for me but if anyone wants any direction on how to take a show and adapt it to make it your own, this is one of the best examples I've seen.
Siren being such a main character was the final thing needed to keep up this shows winning streak to me. I love the Femme costume but Miho was such a dull character it was difficult to care in Ryuki (plus she was only in a movie) but Kase is such a badass that I'm now REALLY excited for her Figuart to come out. Xaviax controlling Wrath is also a really nice touch. It really hit the fan in the last episode so I'm looking forward to the survival mode debut in the next episode. |

The only big problem I have with the show is that it has too many clip shows. 1 out of every 10 episodes is a clip show. Literally. Btw, warning: Don't get your hopes up for the final episode. It's 95% clip show. 39 is the real finale and I won't spoil that. |
Dragon Knight and Good, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

I told you guys you'd love the show! I feel so proud right now to meet other fans.

So more MMPR, you know what is kinda annoying me about the footage integration now we've had character focused episodes? That no attempt has been made to bond the characters together.
Jason, Trini and Kimberly work well enough when merged with the Zyurangers because Jason is basically just really bland minus some surprisingly funny if not largely juvenile puns and what makes Trini and Kimberly stand out is less to do with their physical attributes (although all the Rangers flip and stuff so Kimberly's gymnastics don't really count). On the other hand Billy and Zack simply do not work, Zack could have worked but they bothered to add his swag into the unmorphed fight scenes so it's always jarring to see him suddenly become so static when he morphs (minus the aforementioned flipping) and quite a few episodes now have established that Billy is no fighter, needing the Rangers to come save him, so it's jarring when suddenly he morphs and becomes one of the best fighters on the team. And yes, I am aware they are common problems of the franchise, not just MMPR but I can't understand why they've done it like this. The Zyuranger footage is so ultimately bland that it seems perfect to mold and shape in your own way, but MMPR seems to go out of its way to make really identifiable things in the American footage that you cannot physically translate across and it is just stupid. |
Entering the final stretch of Dragon Knight.
Strike had the most anticlimactic death ever. |
