honestly as for the hate like transformers PM and i can talk about that for the 1st 3 films i was heavy in the fandom and back off because of how toxic it got over those movies. My advice is to make an opinion on everything you see but don't write off the film yet because the execution may be well awesome. remember mythbusters proved you can polish a turd |

http://comicbook.com/2016/12/19/powe...id-frank-2017/
So Comic Book put up this article stating that Blake Foster (Justin from PR Turbo) "confirmed" that Jason David Frank will appear in the Power Rangers (reboot) movie. I found the Instagram post (its about the movie Goldar toy) and he says it as a response to someone saying "Are you gonna be like JDF and hate on every single thing because you're not in it?". So no credibility or evidence at all, just 'lashing out'. |

I was a huge fan of JDF right up until My Morphin Life. I was looking forward to a show that i thought was behind the scenes of his time on the show and return to the show. What i got was "Hey i'm the Green ranger love me." Short story never meet your heroes and long story make your own opinion. Lionsgate probably waited this late for reveals on most this movie so they don't have push it back to redesign like fox did with DBE because picolo use to be White oh and oozaru used to be blue and hairless |

So uh, you guys still interested in this movie? I do hope when they release the second trailer it'll look good.
Because if this movie fails then PR will forever be a joke. |
There are so many fatalists in this fandom, it's exhausting.
|
They're in every fandom, unfortunately. Just one of those things :lol
As for my interest in the movie, I don't really have much. I'm still following the news because it's still one of my favorite franchises, though. |
I'm only keeping up with the news/planning on watching the movie because I want to know how badly it'll flop

But somehow I doubt it'll even bring me that much joy. |

You either put in the effort or have the common decency to admit you made a turd. I'm tired of drama queen directors like that talentless hack Paul. |
The VR experience uses the Pink Ranger helmet as users interact with the system.

So, kinda interesting thing that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere. I was in Target today and found the toy for the Power Sword repainted into the other four rangers colors. It's probably a toy line only thing, but hey, still kinda neat.

I will make a lot of people irationally angry right now but frankly weather this movie does gangbusters money and is the most profitable movie of the year, or if it fails horribly and makes 0$ it won't matter in the end, because the franchise as whole will suffer in the long run.
I am also a transformers fan, this year is the 10th anniversary of Bayformers and frankly the franchise isn't in any better shape than it was back in 2007 in fact I think that it's in worse shape. If the movie is a massive success it won't be a sudden renaissance of Power Rangers making everyone's wildest dreams come true like how some people think. The people in charge will see the movie as a success and will go "hey the movie is making money why not make everything else like the movie for more money". So they fill first continue to make more movies. Then suddenly every stupid idea the movies came up with, every weird design choice the movie had will be forced into every other part of the franchise. Like with how now Bumblebee will forever be the most important character in the entire franchise and will always be a pimped out muscle car. The movie aesthetic will become the dominant aesthetic for every Power Rangers thing for ages to come. Like with Transformers the lines that were meant to be homages to old toys and characters will be gone and instead replaced with figures that are more like the movies. The comics will be rebooted to make them look and read more like the movie. All of the next shows will be written and made to look more like the movies. Every other aspect of the franchise will cease to exists or hold any meaning except for the movies as the movies becomes the sole driving force for everything. So if you are not completely and utterly in love with the movie the next 10+ years will be torture. Eventually the public and fans will get sick of it and at best the movies will keep going forever while the fans maybe get a few new figures based ONLY on Mighty Morphin and maybe a new comic book based again ONLY on Mighty Morphin and ultimately nothing will be different than it is now. If the movie fails well frankly again nothing change. There won't be any more attempts at revitalizing the franchise. It will just keep on trucking the way it is now, as a trainwreck of neo-Saban desperately trying to recreate Mighty Morphin again or just doing 1 to 1 awful localization of Sentai. We'll still get some ok-ish vintage nostalgia-bait toys and a decent comic but that's about it. So really whatever happens for the hard-core Power Rangers fans who want the franchise to actually be something more well that's all dead now thanks to the movie. |
You're a little off.
Power Rangers is developed much differently; and it's a big part of why, regardless of the movie's success, PR won't see a major evolution is that it's a franchise that revitalizes itself every year (Well, now every 2 years). Unlike TF's, which can sit in dormancy for however long it takes, as soon as one PR series ends, we get, what, 4 months until the next one rears it's head. It can't reuse points from the movie that was successful because it will get very tired, very quickly. Add in it's reliance on Sentai footage, it keeps it from being PR Move: lite version. Worst case scenario is that Kyuranger's PR adaptation takes cues from the movie, but that'll likely be it. |
If Power Rangers revitalizes itself every year why have the last 6 years been exactly the same?
Power Rangers USED to revitalize itself every year, because every year there was a new set up, a new status quo, a new set of characters and most importantly a new gimmick and tone. That's what kept the franchise fresh. The entirety of neo-Saban era feels like exactly the same show a.k.a. a poor try to recapture Mighty Morphin, both in setting, characters and episode to episode formula. The only difference between Samurai, Megaforce and Dinocharge are the suits effectively they are all the same show. If the movie becomes such a massive hit the higher ups will simply say "make it more like the movie" and from then on instead of trying to copy the simplistic 90s Mighty Morphin they will try to copy the movie so there's going to be more civilian powers, colour filters to make everything look dark and brooding, characters being "troubled youth", tropes and character from the movies being copy-pasted etc. At best we won't get the terrible movie aesthetics until BOA throws money at Japan to try and replicate that style for the next series or something like how they did now with Kyuranger in order to have the suits look like armour/things they do in the Super Ranger instead of the plain one colour spandex that Sentai has been using for the last couple of years now. But make no mistake any ORIGINAL American content like the comics or hell if they decide to go all out and make a Netflix series or something will be following the movie style. |

This is the same that will happen to Rangers after the movie hype dies down if there even if one. Do you think that there is going to be Legacy Space or Turbo zords? Lol no after the movie aesthetic gets boring it'll be back to basic with more original Megazords and maybe new Thunderzords. Because that's all this franchise has become and will continue to be. A constant rehash of Mighty Morphin because nostalgia. |
The real tragedy is that Bill Hader has to voice that abomination of an imposter they call Alpha 5 and Walter White is Professor Hart from VR Troopers because floating heads in tubes are so out of style.

A couple of new pics from the VR thing over at io9, including Zords.

http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/...AV-60-Bisk.jpg Look at this lobster. Just based of the 1984 Lobsterbot. Had to change the name because copyright, but same guy. http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/...ctoriontoy.jpg Nothing new here at all. Nope, no original character here. http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/...-Twinferno.jpg Yep, this is Twinferno's 500th toy, can't wait for the next one. What I'm saying is that Transformers is still innovating, even if you don't think so. Even the generations line, which you're dismissing as G1 with elbows, is still characters that haven't been seen since their debuts. not the ever-redone 1984 line-up. In Power Rangers terms, it would be like visiting the later zordon-era, which would be remaking In Space. And people would love In Space redos. |
Does that mean I have to wait at least a decade before I can get some homages to Lost Galaxy?

On topic I found this: http://kyomusha.deviantart.com/art/M...zord-395772592 Look at that a techno-organic looking Megazord that actually looks like the Megazord. Fans on deviantart continue to shame Hollywood. |
Um... I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic about the Lobsterbot bit. Most of the RiD Cons seem to be wholly original characters, not even sharing names as far as I'm aware.

In addition, the other guy is complaining about the movie aesthetic taking over everything. None of the toys in either line currently resemble any movie character beyond "Is named x and turns into y". Robots in Disguise is a great source of innovation, outside of Bumblebee, and Generations, like I said, is visiting some of the equivalent In Space/Lost Galaxy era of Transformers- the later, less remembered parts, with some things there for recognizability because they've been consistantly appearing for 30 odd years (See Voyager Optimus Prime and Megatron, and even that OP borrows from the Gen 2 design). To try and make this vaguely relevant to the topic, I guess I'm saying that the movie designs won't take over everything, and nostalgia will eventually move on to something else. It might take a metric tonne of MMPR first, but Saban might eventually revisit some of the more Headmastery stuff instead of the Arc crew for the 20th time. |
FWIW AkibaSilver, I totally get what you mean. Transformers rarely returns to slavish 1984 pandering. Usually superficial characters and names come back, but Transformers reboots constantly with the same names, wheras PR doesn't so it's a hard comparrison to apply everywhere. I also agree with the notion that I doubt this movie will greatly influence future iterations.
In fact, as pointed out, the near total lack of advertising for this movie makes me wonder if it's not a fucking mess as it is and the producers are avoiding wasting money on advertising to minimize their loss. |

March is not a Tentpole month. Usually April is the beginning of the summer season of films with May being the major player. You do get some major films in March but it isn't jammed full like May and June where everyone is fighting each other and thus marketing dollars are spent like mad. Let's compare the films in that month, shall we? Now, this is all based on Youtube searches, so if I miss something please let me know. Power Rangers has had a single trailer and a toy commercial. March 3rd has only one major release: Logan. Logan has had a regular trailer and a Red Band trailer that only showed one extra scene. It has had no commercials. The next week sees Kong: Skull Island released. It has had two trailers; a comic-con trailer and the regular. No commercials The week after that, one week before Power Rangers, comes the film that will probably be the biggest: Beauty and the Beast. It has had a teaser and a regular trailer and several commercials The week Power Rangers comes out it has only one new competitor... the remake of CHiPs that hasn't even had any footage shown yet nor even a poster. The week after Power Rangers comes out there are two films that could challenge it: Baby Boss which has had a single trailer and Ghost in the Shell which has had a single trailer. After that there is literally no major film coming out until April 14 when the new Fast and the Furious film comes out. One trailer, no commericals. So if you remove Beauty and the Beast from the mix... Power Rangers is pretty much in line with every other film coming out around it. So there is no need to overload the world with commercials and trailers as the competition isn't either. So to claim that they are advertising this film because clearly it must be bad is a falsehood. They are advertising it yet because there is no need to. If it were coming out in June and we were in April or May then you'd have a point... but not here. Oh, and one other point: If we take into account merchandise it is blowing everything else out of the water. Target already has endcaps, Wal-Mart will be getting center aisle displays soon, and so with Toys R Us. |
The funko figures feel like they got more detail than the bandai figures. *scratches head*

I also took a look at the two big figures they've released, and I didn't know that Billy's helmet actually has the triceratops fringe (or whatever it's called) on it. Doesn't really stick out to you from a head-on look, but looks pretty cool from the side. Edit: There we go. |
Despite being simple repaints, I'm just glad the other rangers at least get weapons of some kind.
|
It is kinda nice, though they're also most likely something created just for the toy-line.
Got a look at the 5" figures as well, and for the most part they actually look pretty good in-person. Alpha is the only easy-pass in the line imo. I'm still planning on waiting to see how the Legacy versions turn out, but if I end up getting the 5" versions, I think I'll go for the multi-pack with the Goldar figure. Though either way I'll definitely be getting the 5" Rita figure when it finally comes out. |
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, so apologies in advance if I'm wrong, but question:
Has anyone seen the exclusive movie megazord giftset ToysRus has listed online? (I'd link it, but that whole new user thing) It's $20 cheaper than buying the zords individually, which is a plus, but the fact the site's description only says "includes all 5 battle zords" and "morph zords together to form the megazord" has me a little cautious. It does come with the rangers and weapons of the zords, right? The page includes stock images of the megazord and three of the zords with their accessories so I assume everything is included, but at the same time, I can totally see a megazord bundle being $20 cheaper because it doesn't have the accessories the individual releases have. I realize I'm probably over thinking this, but I'd hate to get this thing and have a "Whoops, looks like it's missing stuff" moment. |
Cakes inspired by the movie will be created on a future episode of Cake Wars with Becky G as guest judge. No word on an air date at the moment.

I loved the trailer. This is going to be the best Power Rangers movie yet. I'm digging the Zords. If Bandai did it Legacy style with screen accurate paint(including the cyan accents) and mold I would be interested. Overall I am excited for the movie.

So what rating on RT do you think the movie will get? My guess is probably between 25% - 70%. I can see it being higher than the Bay Transformers films with critics, but not by much.

But if it's the same as Transformers then it's expected, because they're clearly trying to be like Bayformers. |
I'll put these under spoiler tags for those who don't want to see and because the pictures are pretty big:
