Season 2 just made him a flat unlikable asshole. |
Did it though? Everyone presumed it would go somewhere (myself included) but I don't honestly think there was all that much that suggested it other than a lingering thought of "oh this character can't be this horribly flat". He was just a boring lapdog the entire way through. The whole paralysis thing was just as much development as he got in season one, and that didn't really go anywhere either.
It was everyone else that was worth giving a damn about. |

Season 2 didn't even try to have him develop then there was the stuff about Mcgillis' background which I felt were completely unnecessary and only got added for the edge factor. |
I agree with your assessment of McGillis for sure. Seemed especially unnecessary since they were already doing a relatively similar thing with Atra.
Don't get me wrong season 2 still had a good number of flaws, but I much preferred its nihilistic, "everyone is mortally ambiguous" approach to the "Rooting for Tekkadan the underdogs" approach of the first season. It was refreshing to see such lasting consequences to the main cast, and stuff like Rustal in the epilogue were an interesting talking point. It's certainly divisive, but I think the people crying "but he was the bad guy!" are kinda missing the point. |

Outside of flat characterization and possibly unnecessary edginess in spots my dislike for IBO is probably simply because it's not my kind of show kind of like Game of Thrones or Code Geass. |
When does IBO finish? I might go back and watch it again once this season is over.
|
I can't say Mika was one dimensional though, when his purpose was to be Orga's trigger. That scene towards the end when McGillis is trying to get Mika to state his own feelings on matters and him costantly responding with, "I will do whatever Orga orders me to" gave the boy a lot of depth. Yeah, if you just look at the top layer you will not think anything of it, but that scene had A LOT of layers to it.
I actually found it funny that Rustal did exactly what McGillis wanted to do, just that he did it the legal way. It's funny that you brought up Code Geass Yellow, because that was another show I felt struggled in the first half of its second season before giving us a strong second half. I feel bad for McGillis. The man was pretty much Griffith 2.0 with elements of Char mixed in, and like Griffith, he totally got screwed (in more ways than one). In the end, IBO was hands down the best Gundam show we have had since 00. It was nice to see something fully refreshing done even if it did not always work. All of the characters were great and it knew which ones you needed to hate and which ones you needed to love. |

I'm still not sure what more they can do to the Zeon/Federation story.

While I appreciate Sunrise going out of their way to animate side stories, the fact it's only U.C. stuff that deals with Zeon is kinda getting repetitive. I would love to see some side stories from the alternate universe shows get fleshed out. I would love to get a Gundam 00 prequel, as there's material out there explaining events before 00 season 1 I would find amazing to watch if they tweaked the story a fair bit. I'm hoping we'd get a Calamity War OVA or miniseries before IBO is truly over and done with. Also kinda feels like Sunrise is kinda jumping the gun on this adaptation a bit. Unicorn was out for years and revered by Tomino himself before epiosde 1 of the OVA came out (2006 to 2010). The Origin manga had already been done years before the anime started, even longer if you considering they're only covering prequel material at the moment(2011 to 2015). Thunderbolt had started coming out 3 years before the anime did (2012 to 2015). But Twilight Axis has like...5 chapters out or something? |

Basic Mikazuki doesn't give a shit about anything outside of Orga's orders, according to some or with a 1-time viewing. Actual Mikazuki comes to terms with things his own way (being mostly just a human weapon, not having much prospects outside of it besides his farming hobby, showing some interest in having a child/legacy, actually admitting to valuing Atra, which despite obvious shows of this before him just saying it shows he knows it needs to be made clear). He also knew someone had to say something to Tekkadan as a whole after Orga's death came to light, and more importantly he kept them from just trying to stand and take revenge, partially just because it's "Orga's orders", but clearly because he's been obsessed with the whole finding their place to belong promise that not only did he talk back to Orga earlier because of that, but subtly wants to make sure Tekkadan achieves that, thus making sure all the lesser fighters escape while he and Space-Guts fight. Not quite sure how McGillis' story was unnecessary, if anything it makes clear and enhances his interest in Tekkadan, as they have similarly taken shit from this corrupt society while just being kids. |

TA is literally just something they threw together to advertise a membership program the kits for it being slight retools or just color changes of decade old models also heavily support this. |

And with that IBO is done (I watch via Crunchyroll, so yeah, little late. Worth it so I can watch it on my TV). I'll missing the living daylights out of the show, easily my fifth favorite Gundam entry ever.

Hey quick question for you gunpla builders out there, but do you know if the colors listed in the instruction for gunpla are mr brands paints or aqueous hobby color brand?
Edit: okay they're both Mr. brand paints, but now the question is which should I use? |

The new Gundam Versus game for PS4 is getting a western release this fall.
Well, looks like I'm gonna have to pick up 2 copies to support this. |
Does War in the Pocket have a Blu-Ray release?

Looks like a Build Fighters complication movie is coming. |
Seems like we're due for another Build Fighters OVA/series type thing:

2 Build Fighters projects.
First is an OVA titled "GM no Gyakushuu" or in English roughly "GM Counterattack." This will star the original cast and be set between BF and Try. The red Gundam on display is the first version of the Build Burning Gundam. The 2nd Project is "Battlogue." It's a series of shorts that is nothing but what if battles. Basically pure mecha porn, which is what Build Fighters is best at. |
More Build Burning the more the merrier for me.
|
Pretty much confirms the Build Burning was based on a G-Gundam kit and by the looks of it it was Shining/Rising Gundam.
|
So while I was searching for some nifty fan made Gundams I came across this stuff.
http://www.gundamkitscollection.com/...st-gundam.html I like it. Reeeeeaaaaally wish this was real and the toys existed. |

I built a Graze Ein yesterday. Pretty cool suit, just head articulation is annoying.
|
Wow in Twilight Axis The Zaku is the hero's mobile suit and the Gundam is the bad guy.
I finally got my wish for a mono-eyed suit to take the lead pity it had to be in something so limited. And now I want that Zaku III damn it. |

Not much update going on here eh?
Wanted to ask, some opinions for my next MG kit. Deciding on Freedom 2.0, Blue Frame D, or thunderbolt ver ka. (I've build sengoku astray MG so I know what to expect from Blue Frame D, but still a very cool looking kit to own) |
