I have yet to start all the anime I'm watching this season (I'm gonna finish watching a playthrough of Ultra Despair Girls before watching the Danganronpas, which could take a while) but most of them have started. This season is looking...rather promising, actually.
orange is pretty alright so far. There's...something about the art style, it is a little unappealing, but in a rather appealing way...I'm not sure how I really feel about it or how to describe it. Overall, I'm definitely gonna need to see more of it, but I don't dislike it at all. Arlsan Senki is Arslan Senki. It ain't bad. But I have to say, it's a bit of a trollish cop-out, the way things went. Season one ended making it seem like the story was within reach of the big climax and conclusion, and season 2 comes along with a "lol fuck no" and then the developments with Andragoras and now...shit, guess there's pirates now, alright. I mean, whatever (literally) floats their boat, but it really isn't what I was expecting. With only 6 episodes left, really not sure where they're going. I mean...I guess I also don't understand why they're doing an 8 episode season...it's a little confusing. But again, it ain't bad. This Art Club Has a Problem! was entertaining enough going off the first episode. I think this will probably be the kind of series where at first I'm just mildly amused but may grow a little tired of eventually. The scenarios presented by the setting in episode one are rather limited. Hopefully this will not be the case. Most of the cast has yet to be introduced, so I'm hopeful. Not bad. 91 Days looks interesting, but after just one episode it's a bit hard to tell. Amanchu was my favorite of the season for a little bit there. The first episode was very nice. It was funny, the art style is charming and the art shifts are appropriately humorous and I overall just really enjoyed it, and it looks very promising. Really glad I decided to watch this one. Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu LOVE! LOVE! I was a bit concerned about before I watched it. I loved the first season, but was afraid the second may not live up to it properly or something. My concerns were, however, unnecessary. The first episode was fun as hell and lived up to the memory of the first season perfectly. Considering the way season 1 ended, there's bound to be some really ridiculous shit going down to allow the events of this season to happen, and I'm really looking forward to finding out what. Mob Psycho 100 is my favorite of the season so far by a large margin. The animation is beautiful, the art style is great, the humor is on point, the premise is promising and just...man, even just the first episode was probably as fun as the rest of the stuff I've seen this season put together (which says more about it than the rest of the season, because as I've established, I'm liking it). Seriously really great start. Hoping it stays strong. And then there's...Mahou Shoujo Naria Girls. Gonna be honest, I wasn't necessarily expecting much from it. I'm only watching it in the first place because it shares some of the staff from Tesagure, which I adore. But it was an obviously experimental project from the start and much different in premise. So I wasn't expecting a lot, I was mostly curious. Even so...even so, the first episode was just kind of...embarrassing to watch. The animation, which is terrible when it's there and isn't there as much as you'd think, the conversations, which don't seem to have a real theme or purpose the majority of the time and feel stilted when they do, and the premise, which so far has not lent itself to anything interesting...this show is a mess. No other way to put it. I don't know what its point is or what they're trying to accomplish. It ain't good. The phrases during the transformations are pretty hilarious, the little aside from the monster in episode 2 is the kind of self referential humor I was expecting, but as a whole it's...really weird. Really bizarre. I guess it may get better, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will rise to the level of good. I guess we'll see. Naria Girls is proving itself the weak link, but I was always kind of expecting that to be the case. And honestly, if the bad anime I watch this summer is restricted to this one 8 minute show, I'll consider that a pretty good deal. In non-seasonal news, I finished Katanagatari last night. The last episode was kinda fucked, and it kinda left me feeling a little fucked. I don't know. I still don't think I know how to feel about it. It's a really good and rather unique anime, but I think I likely would have preferred it if its ending was a little more typical. |
I'm just treadin' along with this.

Dragon Knight - Not to be confused with Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight obviously. Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight wishes it was Dragon Knight :p. This anime was very ecchi, but it was also surprisingly funny.
While this anime is far from perfect, this anime give me some great laughs. I thought it would be another bad forgettable anime. It end up being pretty funny. Takeru Yamato is very perverted and goofy much like Kintaro Oe from Golden Boy. You could say that this anime is like Golden Boy meets Dungeons and Dragons. The other characters are not very developed and felt like that they are just there. Takeru pretty much steals the spot light from everyone in this anime. He always creates the best funny moments in the anime and I always laugh when he is one screen. I also enjoy the monster designs. I find it funny that we have a group of demons at the end of the anime that look like a mixed between Piccolo and Devilman :lol. The animation is pretty good for an anime that was release in 1991. Everything was decently animated. The soundtrack is alright. Nothing bad or good, just alright. The English voice acting is not bad, but it's far from being great. Doug Smith from Golden Boy voices Takeru Yamato and does a great job on the role. You also have Kimberly Yates voicing Luna and Tiffany Grant voicing Queen Neina. They both did a pretty good job in this anime. The other voice actors did an okay job I guess. Overall Dragon Knight is a short and funny anime. This anime already has become a guilty pleasure of mine and I won't mind watching it again. If you want to watch a short funny anime, give this anime a watch. Be warn that this anime is not safe for work. Grade: C+ |
Legend Of Lemnear - Wow this was boring to watch. A lot of older OVA's, you have really good ones, decent ones and awful ones. This one is pretty bad. This anime is boring to sit through and I found myself checking the time on my PC multiple times to see when this anime will be over. Seven minutes in, I just want to watch something else. The anime was directed by Kinji Yoshimoto, who was work on Megazone 23. Megazone 23 was pretty decent anime while this anime is just shit.
This anime focus more on fan service and good animation than plot (Funny how that it's still an issue today with some anime like High School of the Dead in my opinion). This anime has so much nudity and boob bouncing scenes that you could make a drinking game out of it. The story is pretty much your typical generic fantasy adventure story. You have some evil powerful wizard trying to destroy the world and now it's up to the main character to save the day. Oh yeah, the main character sees her parents die right in front of her with no major emotional impact in the story. I can't care for anyone in this anime when there is almost no character development. They try to cram an epic tale into 45 minutes. Even if this was some fail pilot for a TV series, they still could have done a better job on the story. I seen short anime that have more story and better characters than this anime. Also the ending is total bullshit. The main character uses her pterodactyl to fly above the clouds and fires some beam to kill our bad guy in one hit. It just ends right there! I rather watch Wrath of the Ninja: The Yotoden Movie again over this anime. The best thing about this anime was the animation. It's very well done and every thing was nicely animated. I love all the detail put into the animation for this OVA from 1987. That's the only good thing about this anime. Overall, Legend of Lemnear is bad and I want my 45 minutes of my life. Avoid this anime at all cost. Grade: D- Meanwhile I'm also watching Ajin: Demi-Human on Netflix. As a big fan of the manga, I'm liking the anime a lot. The CG takes some time to get used too, but it looks great. The animation reminds me of Killer 7. Cel shaded graphics with a dark and gritty feel to it. So far, I like the manga more but I do dig the anime adaption so far. I take it no one else is a fan of Ajin besides me? |
All caught up with everything Berserk.
This new show is rather difficult to watch at times. |
Some of the anime that I have finished recently.
Ajin: Demi-Human - As a big fan of the manga, I enjoy it. I find it to be a very interesting anime adaptation as this anime is fully CG than being normal 2D animation. 3D animation is not bad once you get used too. Some scenes it did look off at times, but the animation at times can look really good. It does capture the dark and gritty feel that the manga has going for it. The voice work in both Japanese and English are very well done. Whoever voiced Sato in English did a really good job. The characters in the anime are very well done. Kei Nagai is a character that shown changed over time as he becomes stronger and more violent as the story goes on. Sato is probably the best villain in anime and manga recent history in my opinion. Such a dark and sinister villain that I really love his character. The action is very well done too. I don't like how they tone down some of the violence from the manga as the manga did had more blood and gore in it. The anime does remove scenes from the manga and episode 13 plays much differently than it does in the 5th volume. One big plot hole that the anime has is Tosaki can now see IBMs. How did this happen? It makes no sense?!. Also one thing I didn't like about in the last episode was Kei frees Nakano just like that as if nothing happen and agrees to go with him after being imprisoned for so long. While in the manga I felt like it was done better. I hate to sound like a purist, but I did enjoy the manga more. I like the art style better in the manga and I felt like the story was told much better in the manga. However I still say that the anime is pretty great. There was never a dull moment and each episode made you want to see more. Overall, Ajin: Demi-Human is a solid anime that has action, mystery, drama and horror in a world filled with interesting characters. I do look forward to season 2 on how they will adapt the other volumes of the manga. The 3D animation will turn people off for sure, but I say give it a watch. If you don't like the 3D animation art style, I do suggest to read the manga instead. If you enjoy anime like Parasyte or 3x3 Eyes, you should enjoy Ajin: Demi-Human. Grade: B+ California Crisis: Gun Salvo - There's not much to say about this anime really. The story is your typical run from the Government as our main character has an object that they want and the main character does not want to give it to them. This anime set in the US, but was never released outside of Japan which I find very interesting. This anime is pretty much "1980's The Anime". The music, animation and general tone feels retro. The anime is very dated out, but it does help give its charm. This anime does show that it was made in the era that it was made in. Anyone who is very nostalgic of the 1980's decade should get a kick out of this anime. I did enjoy the animation as everything had a shiny and outlined style to it. Making it feel like a western animated show or movie than something from Japan. The characters are forgettable and the ending is so anticlimactic. This anime has a special charm to it as it tries to be something different compare to other anime titles at the time. I only recommended this anime for people who nostalgic for the 1980's or watch it on a rainy day to pass off time. Grade: C Demon Hunter Makaryuudo - I found this anime to be very interesting. This anime is pretty obscure as there is almost little to no information on the web. The anime was never released outside of Japan, but it's up on Youtube. Anime News Network and My Anime List barely have any information on this anime. Looks like it's not based on a manga, video game or any other sources. Making this anime a pretty original title for its time. This anime was not too bad. It was entertaining to watch and had a cool story. The idea of a female demon hunter who is a powerful being from the underworld sent to the human realm to hunt demons is awesome. The story falls pretty flat every on and the story overall does not make much sense. All of the characters are not very good. I can't even remember the names of the main characters after the anime was over. I did enjoy the action and the animation was pretty solid for the most part. This anime feels very incomplete and was mostly likely plan to be an ongoing series. Had this anime continued after 1989, we could have a really cool anime series. Unless you want to watch something obscure or totally bored with nothing to do, I don't recommended this anime. I will give this anime some credit for effort. Grade: C+ |
Out of genuine curiosity Guyver Spawn, where do you find the titles you end up watching? You pick some of the most obscure stuff I've ever seen :lol
|
Caught up with Love live sunshine and it has been quite good, reminds me of the the first season, although a bit too much like the first season in some aspects, which I am partially okay with as long as this doesn't end up being too much of reskin of the first season.

Since I finish Ajin: Demi-Human, I'm thinking about checking out Tokyo Ghoul because I always see people compare the two. I did saw the first two episodes of Tokyo Ghoul last October at my Anime and Manga club for Halloween. I thought it was decent. |
Love Live! Sunshine!! is way better than I thought it would be.
Yohane is bestest girl. |
Dominion Tank Police - I rewatch this anime for the first time in the last 19 something years. I first remember seeing Dominion Tank Police a very long time ago when I was at least 6 years old on TV late night at my Grandma's house. I remember seeing the first act on TV and the action really blew me away. Dominion Tank Police is based on a manga from Masamune Shirow, who also created Ghost in The Shell and Appleseed. Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed are still very relevant today while Dominion Tank Police has fade away into obscurity over the years. So how well does it hold up? Dominion Tank Police holds very well and is a great anime to watch.
The action is very over the top and enjoyable. Not a single boring moment in this anime and this anime has four acts (each episode around 35 minutes). The humor is one of the best parts of Dominion Tank Police because the show is very cheesy and over the top. The first two acts of full of slapstick, great jokes and funny characters moments. All of the humor made me laugh from start to finish. None of it felt force and dry. The last two acts of the anime go for a more serious tone in the story, but there is a lot of comedy too. The last two acts really did a great job on mixing drama and comedy into one. The last two acts really give us great character development on Leona and our main villain "Buaku". Leona Ozaki is a great female character with a great personality and her character keeps on getting better as time goes on. Leona Ozaki was able to show that she is more than just a girl working with the police force and she is just as smart and tough as the men working at Tank Police. She also has a mother-like affection for her tank and other people who live in New Port City. All of the other characters in Dominion Tank Police are great and very memorable. Jim E. Lovelock is the scientific expert and tank commander is a pretty likeable character. My favorite character in the anime is Charles Brenten, the Tank Police squad leader. Charles Brenten has the awesome macho type of personally to his character. He is like Sleepy from Mad Bull 34 if Sleepy was way less violent and not as popular with the ladies. The most famous characters in Dominion Tank Police are AnnaPuma and UniPuma aka the Cat Girls. While they are not my favorite characters in the anime, they are pretty fun characters to watch. I will admit that I didn't care for Al Cu Ad Solte because his character felt rather flat. His character felt he could have been written much better. Everyone else in the anime is awesome. What also makes Dominion Tank Police so great is that the themes in the story are very relevant today. Dominion Tank Police deals with the issues of police militarization and brutality which is currently a big issue going on in the world today in this decade. Just listen to the opening during the debate between the chief of police and the mayor of the city about the role of police during the start of the first act. You also have people wearing oxygen masks in New Port City due to high levels of pollution which is a similar issue going on in China. This anime was really ahead of its time for being made in 1988. The anime also has great music and solid animation. The character designs are very colorful and nicely detail. They really do fit well with the gray-blue, smog-covered tone of the city in my opinion. All of the tank designs in the anime look really awesome and are totally watch to see on-screen. The English dub is from Manga UK, who is famous for really bad English dubs like for Angel Cop and the first two Devilman OVA's. However I feel like this is Manga UK's best dub because the voices fit well with the characters and the overall goofy tone of the anime. However there are a few things I dislike about Dominion Tank Police. I felt like the ending was not that great and it felt underwhelming. The whole ending didn't feel like it clear up the central plotline really well. Also I feel like that the second and third arc went on for a bit too long. I forgot to mention that this anime has fan service, but there is very little of it and it's done right. It does not over shadow the plot and character unlike most anime now like High School of the Dead and Bikini Warriors. Overall Dominion Tank Police is an excellent anime with funny humor, great characters, awesome action and a great social commentary on both police militarization and unethical scientific experiments. I highly recommend to watch this anime if you like comedy anime, old school anime or an action anime that doesn't take itself too seriously. If you watch this anime and hope to be dark, gritty and serious like Mamoru Oshii's anime adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, you will likely be disappointed. Dominion Tank Police is still awesome even nearly 30 years. Grade: B+ |
14 eps into Eva.
It's pretty good. Still waiting for it to turn depressing though. I'm pretty sure I was promised depression. Where's my dang depression. |
Here is the anime that I watch in the last two weeks I competed:
My Hero Academia - I have read the first three volumes of the manga and this anime was one of the most hype up anime of the Spring season. So I finish watching the anime last night. I enjoy it, but I feel like it could have been better. Izuku Midoriya is a pretty enjoyable main character and I like All Might a lot. All Might is my favorite character in the show. However I feel like the other character felt lacking and they could have better character development. Izuku's classmates could have written much better in my opinion. Some of them are cool (like Asui Tsui, Tenya Iida and Eraser Head) while I didn't care for the others that much (Ochako Uraraka is the typical nice girl and most likely has a crush on the main character) There are superheroes that show up and barely again (Like Mount Lady). Katasuki is my least favorite character in the show. He is just another rival character that is an unlikable asshole that wants to be better than everyone else and does not want Izuku to surpass him. The Animation was pretty good and the score was great. I do feel like there was too many flashbacks and felt like that they were added there to fill up the run time of the episode. Overall, My Hero Academia is a fun show with an interesting premise. The show does suffer from typical Shonen clichés, but I still had a great time watching it. I do plan on buying it on Blu-Ray and I will watch season two. I also plan on continuing reading the manga as well. Grade: B This is how I would rank the recent superhero anime TV shows: Tiger & Bunny>One Punch Man>My Hero Academia. Hyper Doll: I remember in the late 90's, Sam Goody had this anime on display when it was coming out on VHS. As a kid, it always look rather cool and I always wanted to check it out. Took me 17 years later to watch it by watching both episodes on Youtube. Not bad for a two episode OVA series, I had fun watching it. The anime felt a Dirty Pair parody and the anime had some very funny moments in it. I admit that the writing could have been better because the first episode didn't do a good job on introducing the main characters to us. I still find the main characters enjoyable and I wish this anime had more episodes. The animation was pretty good and I like the music in the anime. Overall, I enjoy it and it is not as bad as Bennett the Sage said it is. Not great or terrible, but an enjoyable short series. Grade: C Campus Special Investigator Hikaruon: I always wanted to check out this anime because it's a tribute to the Space Sheriffs Metal Hero series. This anime was alright and I feel like it could have been better. I didn't like any of the characters and our main character was pretty dull. Not much happens until the last 10 or 15 episodes of the anime. The final battle was pretty cool and that's about it. The animation and music are pretty good too. I give it credit for being the closet thing to being a Metal Heroes anime. Fans of Space Sheriffs or VR Troopers may enjoy it. Overall, I felt rather let down by this anime (I was not expecting high art, but at least something more fun and less boring to watch). Grade: C- Judge: This anime was promotes fairly often on The Sci Fi Channel's Saturday Anime block late at night in the late 90's. I always wanted to check out for years and I finally got my chance too. This anime was awful and I would put it on my Top 10 worst anime list (If I have one. I have a Top 5 worst list though). This anime sucked away 50 minutes of my life that I will never get back. The story was so confusing and I had no idea what was going on. I could not tell who was the good guys or the bad guys? Everything was incredibly boring to watch. None of the characters are interesting and you won't remember them when this anime is over. The Judge of Darkness was cool, but his character felt like he was hardly there. The animation is pretty bad and looked bad even in 1991. The color choices are ugly are look to at and I felt like some animation frames where missing in several scenes of the anime. The dub is pretty bad, but you can easily laugh at it for being so terrible. Overall, Judge is an awful anime. I can only recommended this anime if you want to watch for a bad anime night with friends for laughs. Otherwise skip it! Grade: E- |
Watched the first 7 episodes of Parasyte so far today. Definitely an enjoyable series so far, I just was expecting something a bit more...horror-esque. It seems more like a drama with lots of gore and some shonen-esque fights. I also can't help but feel like Tokyo Ghoul was heavily inspired by Parasyte, since they have SUCH similar premises.
|
Parasyte came out in 1988 in Japan, so it's possible. Parasyte seems like it could be inspire by John Carpenter's The Thing seeing that both deal with aliens that can morph and change with a host that they take over.

Quote:
I just finished episode 13. This show is depressing lol |
3x3 Eyes - I watch all four episodes last week and never seen the show expect for the first two episodes a while back. I thought it was a well done show with some flaws. I wish the supporting cast would have been better seeing that Yakumo's friends feel like that they are hardly there. I did love the character bond with Yakumo and Pai because I felt like they did a great job with those two. I love the journey that the characters go through the story and I really cared what happen between them. The villains are cool and the action scenes are awesome. I love the dark and gritty feel that the anime is going for. Funny how this anime is from Toei, who normally makes anime for kids. Since the anime is is from Toei, there are some bad animation errors here and there. Overall, 3x3 Eyes is a cool anime to watch. I also feel like Ajin: Demi-Human was heavily inspired by 3x3 Eyes because I notice several similarities between the two. While the anime is not perfect, I really enjoy it. Grade: B
I will be watching 3x3 Eyes: Legend of the Divine Demon soon. Meanwhile I try to watch Pupa and give up after 5 episodes. It started off so bad it's good then it got pretty boring. Also the incest stuff was kinda gross even for someone like me (Who sit through all three uncut episodes of Violence Jack and the Urotsukidouji series). Incest is not my cup of tea and I was like "I think I know where this series is going. I'm done!". Pupa is like if Genocyber and Tokyo Ghoul had a very ugly baby. Not the worst anime that I've seen, but still pretty bad. I would give Puppa like a E (Which is a 4/10 for me). |
Anime I finish this week:
3x3 Eyes: Seima Densetsu (3×3 Eyes: Legend of the Divine Demon) - It was good to see what happen after episode 4 of the last OVA series. While the animation was good, I really wish they didn't make each episode be 45 minutes long. The pacing felt rather slow at times and the ending did suck. The anime leaves yet another cliffhanger seeing that the manga was still being published during the 1990's. I feel like that they should have created their own ending for the anime instead creating another cliffhanger. The character relationship between Yakumo and Pai is great always. I love these two character and seeing them together is always great in my opinion. Seeing that the anime ended 14 years ago in 2002, they can easily make a new 3x3 Eyes anime now that covers the compete story. Overall, I like the first four episodes of 3x3 Eyes better but it was still decent. Grade: B- Space Patrol Luluco - I only seen Inferno Cop and Kill la Kill from Trigger, so I didn't know much about the show going in. The anime is very funny with a good cast of characters. I feel like I would like the show more if each episode was 20-30 minutes each. I didn't like the 6 minute run time that the show had. The short run time that both Inferno Cop and Luluco had reminds me of the short run time that Adult Swim shows have. Besides the short run time, I did had a lot of fun watching the show. The animation is great with a great use of colors and the humor is pretty solid. I also like the crossover episodes from Trigger's other anime series. I didn't love it as most people did, but I still enjoy it. Grade: B Psycho Diver: Soul Siren - I always wanted to check out this anime for a long time seeing that it was only released on VHS and never on DVD. This anime is enjoyable to watch but could have been better. The anime is from Mad House and old school Mad House always made my favorite type of animation. Animation that is very dark and gritty looking. The animation style in this anime reminds me a lot of Wicked City and Ninja Scroll which is awesome in my opinion. The animation is great and really capture the mood that this anime was going for. Dark, violent and gritty. The story is pretty interesting with the idea of a person that can enter the mind of other people. This anime came out before The Cell, Paprika and Inception. However Psycho Diver does suffer from having weak character development and there are things in the story that didn't much sense. However the action was pretty good and all the action scenes are well animated. The ending did left things open and suffers from what most old OVA's had by trying to kick off a series (See Black Lion, Cybernetic Guardian, Kimera and Ayane's High Kick). Overall Psycho Diver is a fun anime to watch. Not great or terrible, just an enjoyable anime with a cool premise and good action scenes. If you want to watch a fun anime to pass off time, give it a watch. Grade: B- |
Got up to episode 4 of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure last night. I didn't really enjoy the first episode, but the other three were good. It's pretty clear how old the story is, but it manages to stay interesting. I can't help but wonder how the show would have turned out had it received a full anime adaptation back in the day. Of course, each part would likely have had to been a separate series, since the manga is still going...
|
If we had a Jojo anime in the 80's, they would have likely censorship down the violence similar what Fist of the North Star did. We also did a 1993-2000 OVA series of Part 3 which only cover like the first part of Stardust Crusaders from what I can remember.
Seeing that you are enjoying Jojo, I suggest to check out Baoh seeing they are both are created by Hirohiko Araki. Hirohiko Araki created Baoh a few years before Jojo (Manga in 1984 and anime in 1989). Baoh also has a somewhat Toku feel to it in my opinion seeing that the main protagonist that is kidnapped by an evil organization to turn them into the ultimate weapon and escapes just before their final brainwashing before able to transform into a powerful monster. It's also a short OVA being around 50 minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIo7ol8dDPY |
I'm watching Record of Lodoss War (1990-1991 OVA) at the moment and I'm personally really enjoying it. The anime feels very similar to classic fantasy series like Lord of the Rings and D&D. Not to mention the animation from Mad House is great for something from 1990. I never saw this anime and only remember seeing a VHS copy of it at my local video store back in the late 1990's.
Other anime I finish watching recently: Otaku No Video - I haven't seen this anime in almost a decade and I'm glad that I rewatch it. The humor is funny and the anime is filled with awesome pop culture references from the 60's-80's. Not a fan of the live action parts, but they are interesting. Otaku No Video is a lot of fun and can be rather educational seeing that it explores the realm of Japanese nerd culture. Modern anime day fans may view this anime as nothing special seeing that we have anime like Genshiken now. I suggest checking this anime out for any old school anime fan. Grade: B Strait Jacket - Personally I really enjoy this anime a lot. Strait Jacket is no masterpiece, but I felt like the story and action are pretty well done. Reiott Steinberg is a very cool main character and Steven Blum's voice really work for his character. I feel the other supporting cast could have been better and I wish the back story was handle better. This anime has a lot of back story and it was hardly talk about. The animation still looks great after nearly a decade later when it was release in Japan. I also love the world that they created in the anime and the action was top-notch. Overall, I really like Strait Jacket and I recommended checking it out for any action anime fan. Grade: B+ Twilight Of The Dark Master - I thought this anime would be bad and I end up liking it. I love the dark, gritty and gothic art style that this anime has. I really miss the animation style that Mad House use to have with their older anime from the late 80's and 90's with their horror and darker action anime like with Wicked City, Ninja Scroll and several others. I also love how surreal that this anime can be at times too. I admit that the plot is pretty messy and somethings didn't make much sense, but the action is pretty awesome though. This anime has become a new guilty pleasure of mine and I won't mind seeing it again. Grade: B- Wild 7 (1994 OVA) - This anime was a very fun anime to watch. This anime is not a great or good anime, but it is filled with great action from start to finish. This anime is very cheesy and over the top which reminds me of old exploitation outlaw biker films with the high levels of violence and cheesy dialogue. I also like that they try to have a social commentary with police brutality, the rise of militant student activists and political corruption. While the characters and story may be weak, Hiba is a fun action hero and I did enjoy the other 7 wild gang members. The music in this anime kicks ass too. I recommended watching this anime if you want something that is plain dumb fun. Grade: B+ |
I just learned that Handa Kun is a spin-off of Barakamon.
So I am watching Barakamon. |
I watch Golgo 13: Queen Bee a few weeks ago and I found it to be okay. The action was good, but the story was pretty weak. Duke Togo felt like a plot device and it didn't feel like he was written in the story very well. Queen Bee was pretty lame to. Sure we got a backstory on what happen to her, but I felt like she was another bad chick with guns. If we got Queen Bee being a fully fleshed out villain, I would like her much better.
I did like the animation even though some frames are repeated. It was a not bad movie, it could have been much better. I like the first movie from the 80's (Golgo 13: The Professional) to be a better movie because it had more interesting villains and a better plot. Grade: B- |
The few shows I watched this past season are now all finally done.
Berserk told a story well enough - and seeing the continuation of said story is the only reason I'm looking forward to the next season next year - but its subpar visuals just brought the whole show down. When the show looks bad it's just hard to stay invested at times. Re:Zero continued to exceed my expectations and I loved it the whole way through. The half in this season saw some pretty good character development, though the main plot felt like it was really only beginning at the very end. That has me hoping we won't have to wait too many years for a season 2, but the ending was written in such a way (and cutting out a pretty important scene from the novel I've heard) to imply not to expect one. Since we sort of got a happy ending and can just assume from what we were shown that things continue to be happy from there. Obviously they won't though because suffering is Subaru. Oh yeah. Re:Petit was a thing. But 91 Days was one hell of a thing. Loved every second of it as well. These were some fun characters to watch and it about ended how expected, open as it was. Don't think I have anything new lined up at all for this new season though. |
I just finished 'Amaama To Inazuma' not too long ago. It was... Okay? The whole cooking thing was a welcome change of pace from what I usually watch, but I don't think anything about it particularly stood out at all. I'd totally watch S2 (if it gets one), but you know... Just *shrug* If you want something that'll tug at your heartstrings, I'd recommend 'Usagi Drop' instead. :)
Another one I'm watching (though it's currently on hold since I'm going on a trip) is 'Urusei Yatsura'. It's aged VERY well, and it's a 'must watch' if you truly consider yourself an anime fan. Despite how illustrious it is, I don't know anyone else who's seen it which sucks. :\ Is 'New Game' as good as people say it is? |
I seen a few episodes of Urusei Yatsura and I like them. It seems to be Rumiko Takahashi's best work.

Finished Danganronpa 3. What a ride.
Little tidbit for the full chronological experience: 1. Watch Danganronpa 3 Despair Arc 2. Play Danganronpa 1 3. Play Danganronpa 2 4. Play Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls 5. Watch Danganronpa Future Arc 6. Watch Danganronpa Hope Arc If you do not have a lot of time to play the games just watch the perfect run walkthroughs for the narrative. And finished Handa-kun, still on Barakamon. |
Ultra Despair Girls takes place between DR1 and SDR2. Also watching a mystery series like this is a terrible idea. Knowing things totally kills the experience.
One should only watch things chronologically if they've already experienced them properly first imo. |
I need to finish the first Danganronpa anime. I only seen the first three episodes and I enjoy them. I never played the games, so I don't mind watching things in a stand alone point of view.

Well it's October, here are the horror anime I will try to watch for this month:
Blood C - Just to see how bad and violent this anime is. I hear bad things about it. I did see the other Blood anime and I didn't care for them. I saw the first Blood anime on VHS in Middle School and I saw Blood + when it was on Adult Swim. Demon Prince Enma Lily C.A.T. - I saw this anime when I was a little kid and freak me out. Tokyo Ghoul - Just see the hype behind this anime. I only seen the first two episodes. Pet Shop of Horrors Perfect Blue - I would love to rewatch this movie since it's one of my favorites. Wicked City - One of my favorite animated films Last year, I rewatch both Vampire Hunter D movies. I also watch the Corpse Party anime series, Deadman Wonderland, Urotsukidoji V and Urotsukidoji: New Saga. |
Finally finished Mob Psycho 100 last night so I'm done with my Summer shows. It was an alright season. Mob Psycho was definitely the best, and one of my favorites of the entire year so far. Pretty great. Love Live was cool too. Most other things I watched...decent? Naria Girls was bad but by the end almost endearingly so. Almost.
Fall is looking a bit heavy. Got WIXOSS, Applimonsters and Occultic;Nine for franchises I'm already following. Also giving ClassicaLoid, Watashi Motete Dousunda, Nanbaka, Nobunaga no Shinobi, and Sangatsu no Lion a go. Gonna try to watch the Drifters OVA to see if I'm interested in that. Always wanting to cut down on my seasonals but oh well. In other news, I've stared Haruhi, and I'm only five episodes in but I really really really really like it. Let's hope that continues. |
Watching Lucky Star's dub. Holy shit this show is gold

They are trying out some Lucky Star game and hilarity ensues. If you want to go to the good part start from 2:44. Best part is when Shiraishi plays himself in the game(they made him a character Classic Mortal Kombat style) and his finisher is...self-destruction. :lolol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L85PTdS3Lu4 |
I saw episode 1 of Mob Psycho 100 yesterday at my Anime & Manga club at my local community college. It was pretty good and funny. I like the art style and I don't care if it looks bad. Everyone has their own special art style and I like that ONE has his own style without trying to copy off from others.
As for Lucky Star, I never got into it. Not my cup of tea, but I see why people like it. The anime came out during my last year of High School and I remember how huge it was. Lucky Star and K-On seem to kick off the Moe anime boom that is still going on today. |
Just got done watching Selector destructed WIXOSS.
Man, lots of conflicting feelings about this one. The recap frankly was kinda painful to sit through. Recap movies in general are annoying, and even more so when they lack a proper framing device. This movie had nothing of the sort, and the result was the sort of recap I dislike the most--just cutting up the series into the smallest bits and scenes possible, to the point where it loses all meaning and impact, so new viewers gain nothing from it and returning fans are just reminded of what a better way to experience these events the tv show was. It was just...pretty bad. It also kind of confirms the nagging suspicion I've had that as much as I really truly definitely enjoyed WIXOSS when I first watched it, I may in fact not actually consider all the melodrama and other such facets of the writing to be all that good in the first place. It was more of a really enjoyable trainwreck--not in a storytelling sense as much, I don't think it's bad, just like...I just like seeing all these characters suffer and shit? But going through it all again, and in this far inferior format is just....eh. Kind of boring as hell. If it hadn't already lost its impact from the shitty recap format the metal breakdowns are still not as fun to watch the second time around. It also doesn't help that they cut all but like, one second of Chorizo's screentime. I don't think she or Eldora had any lines in the entire thing. Weak ass, Selector destructed WIXOSS! Chorizo is best character! Chorizo deserves better! Chorizo was actually mostly irrelevant to the main plot so I understand why Chorizo was cut, but I am not happy about it regardless! BUT! But. But. The recap, the endless, obnoxious recap may have taken something like an hour, but it did eventually come to an end. And the new content? All good shit. Midoriko and Hanayo talking was like the highlight of my evening. And all the LRIGs hanging out with their Selectors...defs gives me hope that Hanayo may just steal Kazuki from incestgirl. And watching Chorizo and Eldora hang out was great. Just wish they could have given them a damn line or two. Stuff with Ulith was fine too. Was kinda gay too? Speaking of which, Tama and...Tama tho. "You smell nice." That damn Hanayo call back. lmao. The ending, much as I enjoyed it, however, does only feed back into my gripes about it being a pretty shitty recap. Midoriko was basically nonexistent for the entirety of the film, until in the epilogue she starts talking like she mattered. Which she did, one guesses! In like, the show. The shots of Chorizo, Eldora and even irrelevant-even-in-show characters like Futase getting their happy endings are similarly odd for similar reasons. The movie itself never introduces these characters. Which is fine, because it's not like it had the time, but if later it's going to pretend they were part of the narrative that the movie itself followed....eghh. A succinct summation of my opinion of this movie would probably be "should have really just done an OVA or something." The damn recap wasn't worth it. |
I'm halfway through Lucky Star. This is the weebiest dub I've ever seen, they use Japanese honorifics in that, but the voice acting is top notch. Wendee Lee's much better than I remember
