4Kids released the anime in the USA, and that's the version we got here.

Have you ever been in a situation where you wanted to watch anime but didn't know what series to check out? To start things of, for the mecha fans out there I recommend my personal favorite anime of all time, Eureka Seven.

However, if you're not so much a fan of giant robots and looking for something a little bit more dark and gritty then you can check out Shakugan No Shana. Keep in mind that the dub changes its cast between the first and second seasons so just a heads up

Define "Dark and gritty," please.

Yeah, I really just needed something to put up with Eureka Seven that was a little more dark but still somewhat similar and Shana was the first thing that came to mind. :lol

Anyway, yeah you really need to watch Eureka Seven. Hope you enjoy it. :D

Stakes are high, not a lot of laughs in the later episodes but plenty early on and the first few episode will most likely creep you the fuck out. :lol

Edit: Oh and if you need any motivation Matrix the lead character Shana is played by Tabitha St. Germain for the first season.

Now, when you saw there are plenty of laughs early on, but not a lot later, how well is that transition? There's a difference between a series getting more serious and a series having a complete tonal shift.
Additionally, creep my out how? Is it due to strange or grotesque imagery, dark story elements, or what?

And don't do that me. You know it's hard for me to say no to that :lol

I'd say that the transition is done well enough.

Creepy imagery as well as a few story elements.

Finished episode 1 of build fighters and it was a blast to watch.

Yeah it had that yugioh quality to it but it didn't seem to be taking itself too seriously.

There's a lot of fan service, and it's VERY surreal watching a Gundam getting taken out by grunt suit.
