Only if you're looking at them via direct comparison. Again, as long as you know to keep in mind the time Zeta came out, you should still be able to appreciate it on some level.

Well, I finished 0079 today. I actually really enjoyed the series. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it was super fun, had an interesting story, and it's really obvious how influential the series was. I really liked the parts where Amuro connected with his newtype powers and it got all 2001: A Space Odyssey with the colors and everything. It also reminded me of my favorite bits of Evangelion - it's nice to see where they (probably) came from.

As for watch order, I think I'm going to watch 0080 next, and then follow production order moving forward. I recommend sticking as close to production order as possible for both Star Wars and Metal Gear, with slight flexibility to move a few around, so I don't see why I should treat Gundam any differently.

Oh man, 0080 is probably my favorite entry in Early Timeline UC.

As for Late Timeline UC it's Crossbone. Though I did rather like F91 for what it was.

The entire Anime and Collectibles Section near the Books and Movies at my local Target has been slightly reorganized. More FUNKOs, Mandarin Spawn, Warhammer, Godzilla and Jet Jaguar have been added.

I went ahead and got the HGUC Char Zaku II in the photo for under $20.

It's not a lot, but it's a step in the right direction. I'm kind of thinking this may be symptomatic of the Gundam Anniversary, the large Walking RX-78-2, and the Netflix Live-Action Movie News.

Hopefully they weren't holding on them for a while because that would mean Bandai shipments are finally reaching stores.

No Core Gundam II tho. I... uh, screwed up some parts of it so now it's just dismantled. Will have to buy some spare parts later or buy the G3 colors Core II to replace it with. Still have the real color one somewhere boxed tho.

Where does one get replacement parts? Stupidly broke the axe to the HGUC Zaku II while trying to get it out of the Runner. Handle is so thin that it couldn't take it!

It's the Playmates Godzilla line, and not a NECA or a Bandai Model Kit. They apparently decided to include Jet Jaguar in their 2021 lineup and my Target had one. I thought about getting it, but Gundam was in my head more.

Are there any Gunpla kits that transform? Like, is there an RX-78-2 that has a core fighter? Or one that can combine with the G-fighter?

Some RG kits can transform. Notably, Zeta and Unicorn. GP01 has a removable and transformable core fighter. The RG Rx-78-2 has a core fighter but it's not as good.

For High Grades, there is the Zeta, some Build Fighter kits, some nonGundams like the Unicorn Lotto. And quite a few Gundam have transforming alternative modes of varying success.

OH the RG Strike Gundam can combine with the RG aile Strike kit which is a tiny fighter ship.

The really old HGUC Gundam was packed in with a G-fighter once. Not sure wh they haven't made a revive version of that, yet.

Aside from the Zeta suits, there is also the AGE II kits like the MG Age II, HG Age II (Dark Hound, Regular, Magnum, SP, etc.) that can do and almost full transformation.

There's also Hallelujah's arsenal. Kyrios, Arios, and Harute. The latter having a diver kit that can triple-change.

You'll find that most transformable kits need a few parts or two and some disassembling to actually transform.

That would be really cool if they made a new version of it. I seem to be in the minority but I actually liked the G-Fighter. Its practical application was questionable, but I like transforming mechs and it gave best girl Sayla a more active role in things.

Also what's your opinion on partsforming? I only ask cause I think 90% of them do that. I personally don't mind, so the HG Age-3 Normal & Kyrios are great for me.

Also the RG Crossbone & Impulse would definitely be worth looking at.

It's better if they don't partsform, but sometimes there's just no way around it.

Anyways, I try not to buy kits from shows I haven't seen, but I'll keep those kits in mind if I ever get around to watching them. I think I'm going to start Zeta soon, so realistically, my next gunpla would likely be the RG Zeta.

Cool. But do keep in mind, alot of the older RG kits have inner frames that get very loose with age & can barely hold poses or even pieces after a good amount of time. Definitely worth watching some reviews. As well as asking folks who've had it for years what condition theirs is in.

So I was thinking about watching 0080 after MSG, but after reading the description of it...it sounded kind of retcon-y. So I just went straight into Zeta Gundam, and I'm super glad I did. 4 episodes in and I'm loving how it has played with the status quo and expectations set by the original. The art is great as well - it keeps the same overall vibe as the original, but smooths out the designs and animation, and adds more detail to the art. The plot also seems a lot more intricate, striking a great balance between serialized and episodic storytelling (at least, so far).

If you couldn't tell, I'm enjoying it.

War in the Pocket retcons literally nothing. So don't worry about that whenever you eventually get around to it.

I knew that Zeta had Gundam Mk II, so when I saw that they were developing a new type of Gundam in 0080, it seemed like something that could potentially be retcon-y.

I don't mind retcons in general, I just didn't want to watch something that would potentially retcon something else that I haven't even seen yet.

Well, there's an event that happens in 0080 anyway that prevents anything from 0080 ever coming into fruition in Zeta. The Alex certainly never made it to its destination.

Tho, 0080 did state there were two Alex Gundams, but the story surrounding the 2nd one is convoluted, obscure, or outright not existing beyond a hobby magazine custom gunpla made to show what a Uni 2 would look like.

Was building the RG Force Impulse Gundam when the front piece of the right thigh armor went flying somewhere behind my bed. I could search for it but I know I will end up destroying my room as I will not lie my room is a mess.

Well, whatever. I guess I could have watched it, but I don't regret not watching it because I'm loving Zeta so far.

Apparently there's a new Gundam SEED film coming out.

SEED has a bad rep because a lot of the animation and art style looks really dated compared to the rest of the Gundam works, even stuff that came before it. Also it has some of the silliest and most needlessly dramatic plot shifts (and not in a charming way like Gundam Wing). However, it was still very popular and the suit designs still sell very well so I'm not surprised to see it get some love right now. SEED had some good ideas and solid world building.

I noticed the art style has been modernized and I think that helps a lot. Freedom Gundam is one of the best suits ever designed.

I really do wonder how SEED Destiny would've turned out if it weren't for the behind-the-scenes drama that happened between the producer and the voice actors.

I don't know the full details but for those out of the loop apparently the director thought that her husband was cheating with Cagalli's VA or something, and when Shinn's VA tried to defend Cagalli's VA, the director made Shinn boring/insane in response and made Cagalli lose the character development she gained in SEED.

I'm not so sure if this is true or not, but fans believe it is because a.) the producer was going through depression at that time and b.) interviews with the VAs have hinted at this so yeah.

Also, Kira Yamato avoiding death, and just Shin Asuka's entire existance during Destiny, also Wing isn't any better but its issues got fixed in Glory of Losers.

What was the methodology for deciding which countries to attach to characters in G Gundam?

Each Fighter was a representative of a "Neo" country, but how did the conceptional and production staff decide which countries a character should be attached to?

For example, why is the Shuffle Alliance comprised of Neo-Russia, Neo-China, Neo-France, and Neo-American representatives?

Why was it decided to make the enigmatic and strangely helpful Schwarz a member of Neo-Germany?

I looked last night and and many if not all Gundam series on Hulu are apparently leaving as of today.

Is there any additional chatter regarding this as well as access to the various series?

Is that confirmed? I've noticed that Hulu will often say something is going to leave, and then it doesn't. I figured that was the case with Gundam as well.
