Also, I hate the dub voices in general, so no matter how accurate they are I would not watch it. |

Dragon Ball Super has been good these days.
Caught up on Tiger Mask W. |

Speaking of Jojo, I'm not sure how exactly I'm supposed to feel about the fact that in Part 2 Speedwagon's seemingly-seedy-dude-who-turns-out-to-be-pretty-respectable-and-also-mostly-screams-a-lot-of-explanations-during-fight-scenes equivalent is an Actual Nazi, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Haven't made so much progress on Kaiji or Jojo beyond the last time I posted about them but I have been catching up on a few more of my seasonals. So I guess I'll briefly post my thoughts on the ones I'm up to date on. ACCA is alright. It's definitely not bad, but...I don't know, it's a little slow, maybe? It's a little hard to explain. All the characters feel very distant, so while we see them do and think a lot we are never privy to any of those thoughts. It's hard to stay too engaged when the characters feel so closed off. I guess that's how I'd put it trying to articulate my thoughts on it. But the setting is fairly interesting. I guess the plot also is, but between the aforementioned slow pace of the show coupled with never really knowing what's on the characters' minds it's hard, at least for me, to really pick up on where all the threads are actually leading. Also caught up with Kobayashi-san Chi no MaiDragon, and just, shit, I really friggin love this anime. It's hard for me to deal with and understand how much I enjoy it. It's so great. I watched both of the previous adaptations of Cool-kyou's various manga, and I had nowhere near the same fondness for either of them. The otaku husband one was alright, and Komori was downright mediocre crap, so I wasn't even planning on watching this one (and the whole dragon maid thing didn't exactly inspire a lot of confidence either). It took a rapping PV to get me to reconsider, and by god I am glad I took the chance on this. It's still very recognizably a Cool-kyou story with a Cool-kyou sense of humor, and, despite a lot of added polish, a Cool-kyou art style. But it's amazing what a stark difference having full length episodes (the previous shows being shorts probably accounting for a lot of my ambivalence) and the high quality of art and animation that KyoAni brings with it make. It's a very polished, very well realized show. The music rocks, the voice acting is top notch, as mentioned KyoAni just makes it an absolute joy to watch. The characters are fun and endearing and the whole thing is cute and funny and just, it's crazy, it shouldn't work, but it really does. Also, Kanna. My god. A lot of anime try to create cute girl characters, to then have them do cute things. This show was made in order to prove definitively that every past attempt has been a resounding failure. Kanna is like next generation cute. I honestly can't even deal. My only real point of contention with the show is as of the latest episode, with more elaboration into Lucoa's circumstances and the weird sexual harassment going on with Shouta... When I think back to the depravity of Danna ga Nani wo Itteiru Wakaranai Ken (Cool-kyou needs to get shorter titles) I guess this caliber of gross shouldn't strike me as particularly odd, but it's gross nonetheless. My only consolation is Shouta appears to be no more into it than I am, so all I can hope for is that the show minimizes his appearances going forward. Literally everything else that could be and is going on in the show is more worthwhile and great. That being the case, I'm more willing to forgive this crap, though I would have preferred it not being there at all. But such is the plight of the animemes. Hm. Anything else. I don't think I've mentioned Koro-sensei Q. Man do I not care about this. I don't know why I have such aggressive apathy towards any and all animated AssClass, because I don't really think any of it is bad (I mean, mostly), I just appear to be incapable of caring for it. It's weird especially because I'm reading the manga right now, and I think it's pretty good. I don't know. Though Q at least suffers form a few particularly heavy handed jokes, it's still not so bad...seriously, the Chiba/Hayami gags in the latest episode should have gotten way bigger laughs out of me than they did. |

Dragonball Super.
At this point I don't really care about what happens with the Dragonball story, it's just become an SH Figuarts preview portal for me- because if Goku dies: He'll be back. They'll always find a way to bring him back- so the story doesn't really matter anymore- he'll return from the dead somehow. All I really care about now, when it comes to Dragonball, is collecting SH Figuarts- and depending on what new Super Saiyan forms pop up throughout the series: That just gives me a hint as to what might possibly come down the SHF pipe. That's really all Dragonball is to me now- just an SHF prediction program. Don't get me wrong: I've enjoyed Super, it's been cool so far, but ultimately that's all I'm using it for. (Crosses fingers) Please make an SHF of Super Saiyan Rose, please make an SHF of Super Saiyan Rose, please make an SHF of Super Saiyan Rose, come on Bandai....^_^ |
8 Man After - I first saw this anime as a kid on Sci-Fi and I seen the original 8 Man TV series too. This is the first time that I've seen this anime in nearly 20 years and I still enjoy it. I even like 8 Man After over the original series. The original 8 Man is a decent show, but I do like the story and characters in this anime better.
What I like about 8 Man After is the darker and more violent tone. The atmosphere feels darker and grittier than the original series. I also find the characters more interesting and I dig the relationship between Hazama and Sachik. The little kid was alright, but I do like the relationship between him and his father. The other cast of characters are nothing too special and the villains are pretty cool though. What I also like about the story is the themes like "Trying not lose control of your humanity" and how Hazam manage to override his control over his body. The animation is good, but could have been better (I seen anime release in 1993 and before that looked better). The music is also really good too and it really captures the tone of the anime. While this anime is considered to be a sequel to the orignal 8 Man series, you can watch it without watching or reading the original TV series. I also recommended to watch this anime subbed because the Streamline dub is pretty cheesy at times. Overall, 8 Man After is a pretty fun cyberpunk anime. It may not deep and groundbreaking, but I enjoy it for what it is. I would recommend this anime for people who like titles such Armitage III and Ghost in the Shell or Tokustsu superheroes like Kamen Rider and Android Kikaider. I give this anime a 7/10 |
Delete, wrong thread.

Re-watched some random eps of Borgman and then Dragon Ball Kai to kill time
|
Just wrapped up the second season of Kaiji.
So good. God damn. So damn good. Along with the bliss of the finale came sadness that this as far as the anime got. How I wish the remaining manga could have gotten adapted. It's a really great underdog story. I would gladly keep watching Kaiji crawl his way out of one hopeless situation into another. I wonder if the latter manga is translated... Anyway, yeah, it's great. The final battle against he Bog felt slightly drawn out and took a lot of turns, but it only made the end that much more satisfying. I'm at least glad the second season was the end and not the first--that would have been pretty depressing. Although I wish there could have been more, it served as a perfect finale in more ways than one. |
Halfway through Cowboy Bebop. Good god is this good. I understand why this is so highly regarded
Also watched Aggressive Retsuko, adorable artstyle and pretty damn funny |
Cowboy Bebop is a timeless anime in my opinion. The show is also great both subbed and dubbed too (I do like the dub a bit more since it fits the Western feeling to it). It's pretty much the last anime of its era. They don't make anime like they used too.
|
My favorite episode is Toys in the Attic followed by Pierre Le Fou and Mushroom Samba.
|
Finally watching Angelic Layer.
|
I finally started Kaiji and I'm at episode 4 so far. This show is really awesome so far and each episode made me want to see what happens next. Hard to believe this show is nearly 10 years old (I didn't know what it was until March 2013 when I saw a trailer for the live action adaption of the manga) because the animation still looks good (expect for the CG).
I can't wait to watch the rest of season one and season two soon. |
Everyone in Jojo talks too much, all the time. It feels like it reached the point of self-parody a dozen episodes ago and shows no signs of letting up. Hm.

To be fair, that's a manga thing and was done because it was more dynamic, if Araki was an animator, I doubt that the constant monologues would happen as often |
Some anime I finished recently.
Angel Densetsu - I remember hearing about Angel Densetsu a while back and I never got the chance to watch it. Since it's only two episodes, I thought it was not bad. I dig the concept of kind and naive boy with the heart of an angel, but the sinister looks of a devil. This anime has a lot of great funny moments and I found myself laughing hard pretty hard at times. Seiichirou Kitano is a nice main character and seeing other people's reactions around him is very funny to see. The animation is decent, but it could have look a bit better at times. I do wish it was longer since I feel like they could have done more with the story. Not to mention the other cast of characters are pretty forgettable. Overall, Angel Densetsu is a nice short anime. This anime was surprisingly funny, but it could have been better. Rating: 7/10 Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor - I finally watch this anime from start to finish for the first time and I love it. Everything about this anime was awesome. Great characters, good animation, great writing and great music. I love the suspense that this anime had because it kept me at the edge of my seat for every episode after episode 2. Each episode really wanted to see what happen next and see what would happen to the characters. Kaiji is a great main character and I felt really attach to him for every thing that he went through. The supporting cast and the villains are really great too. Yukio Tonegawa is a fun character and Kazuya Hyodo is really dark & sick. I love these types of villains. The show can be pretty deep at times too with its social commentary on the rich screwing over the poor, the inner greed of humans and human survival instincts. Not to mention the show got pretty violent later on and I surprise by the ending too The animation is great too and still looks good even a decade later. The art style is a unique art style and I like it a lot. The artist of the series has his own style and he is able to pull it off very well. The music is awesome too and I love the intro theme song. Overall, Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor was fantastic and I love every moment of it. I admit that the first two episodes had a slow start, but everything else about it is great. I feel bad that I didn't watch this anime until a decade later. I was 16 in 2007 when this show aired and I wish I saw it when it came out (I probably would have like it). If you're a fan of darker anime with almost no humor like Monster, I highly recommended this anime. I will put this on my Top 10 favorite anime and I can't wait to watch Season Two soon. Rating: 9/10 I plan to finish up Ajin: Season Two and later I'll marathon the Bubblegum Crisis series this month for the 30th anniversary. I still plan to watch the rest of Record of Lodoss War and Noragami Aragoto. |
Finished season 1 of JoJo a bit ago. Honestly, would probably be lying if I said I really enjoyed it that much. It's not so much that it's bad, just wasn't really my thing.
Do think I'm willing to watch through Stardust Crusaders before deciding if I want to continue with the franchise, at least. I will have to see. |
been watching super
gal thanks to crunchyroll having bother subb and dubb on there site and been watching dub and i dunno im just finding the dub funny for some reason is due to how bad it is or is it the way the show pertrayed i dunno |
I just finished Yuri!!! On ICE and well it was alright. I honesty don't get the hype for it. At the end it was just meh though it was not boring or awful but it wasn't great either.
|
Well, got recommended Yuri On Ice! by a friend, decided to check it out. I went into it thinking it would be boring and pointless. Two episodes in, and I want more. I have no idea what it is (subliminals maybe), but I'm oddly invested in this guy and his skating dreams.
|
Oh you will probably like this one guy who's dancing theme was heart broken. His first dance is just so funny.
|
Oh my god, I am so tired of hearing about Yuri on Ice.
Four of my friends got my g/f to watch it and now that is all I ever hear about. :lol |
I am so sorry you have my sympathy. So why does she like it so much besides the manservice? Is she the kind that likes to make yaoi fanfics?
|
Quote:
However, she also loves apparentely how well written and realistic the story is and she says it feels different from your normal yaoi series. I still find it funny that the series is called Yuri but is a yaoi. |
Bubblegum Crisis (OVA) - Bubblegum Crisis is one of my favorite anime series and this year is the 30th anniversary. So I decided to marathon the franchise for the 30th anniversary since I haven't seen the original in well over a decade. I'm glad that I rewatch it because I think it holds up pretty well.
The animation is fantastic and still looks pretty good today. The detail on the mechanical monsters and Mega Tokyo are very well done. The setting of Mega Tokyo feels dark and futuristic which captures the mood of the anime. The fight choreography was great because it made all of the fight scenes look fantastic. The music is great too and I love all the tracks in this anime. I still have the music stuck inside my head after many years later and I can remember nearly all the lyrics to Hurricane when I re-watch the first episode. The dub is alright because the voice acting was wooden at times. I do think they did a good job on staying true to the Japanese scripts unlike most dubs at the time. However I would recommended to watch it in subbed. What made Bubblegum Crisis great to me was the dynamic between all the main characters. The Knight Sabers have great personalities to them in my opinion and it's hard for me to pick a favorite on which main character that I like the most. The supporting cast could have been better, but I did enjoy Leon. I really like the personally of his character. The GENOM Corporation was pretty interesting, but I felt like we could have learn more about them. The anime also had a good social commentary on the relationship between man and machine though. Maybe not as deep as Ghost in the Shell, but I still thought they handle it pretty well. I admit the ending did kinda suck, but they never finish the last 5 episodes. Overall, Bubblegum Crisis is very entertaining to watch from start to finish. This anime is not perfect, but you do get cool main characters, great action, awesome music and nice animation. If this anime had a proper conclusion, I would rate it higher. It was nice re-watching it again. I would recommended Bubblegum Crisis to old school anime fans, sci-fi fans and even Toku Henshin heroes fans as well. Grade: 8/10 I plan to re-watch A.D Police (1990 OVA) this weekend since I haven't seen it in a very long time. I also plan to watch Bubblegum Crash which is the only Bubblegum Crisis title that I never saw growing up. I also will watch Scramble Wars too. |

One of the most badass animes of all time despite some flaws on the technical side. Found the complete DVD set that I thought I lost so powering through this these days. |
What I finished recently in the last week:
A.D Police (1990 OVA) - For my Bubblegum Crisis marathon, I decided to watch A.D Police next. This was the first anime in the Bubblegum Crisis series that I saw on Starz back in 2000. As a 9 year old kid, I thought it was so damn awesome. After over a decade later, I re-watch it and I still think it's pretty good. Nowhere as bad as people make it out to be. The animation is pretty good, but could have been better. The original Bubblegum Crisis had amazing animation for its time while the animation in A.D Police feels a bit lackluster. The large amount of detail put in the animation is nowhere as good compare to Bubblegum Crisis. However the action scenes are very well animated and the large amount of blood use in this anime is always awesome. What I like about A.D Police is the atmosphere because it's very dark and gritty. The atmosphere really captures the mood of the anime. A.D Police feels very different from Bubblegum Crisis and I like that. It makes A.D Police to be it's own anime instead of trying to copy & paste Bubblegum Crisis. Bubblegum Crisis did had a good share of serious and violent moments, but it still felt like a PG-13 anime while A.D Police is pretty much R rated. A.D Police is filled with blood, gore, nudity and even sex. That's what makes A.D Police fun to watch. This anime was made when you had ultra violent blockbusters from Paul Verhoeven and it's too bad that we don't get those type of movies anymore. The music is in this anime is great. A.D Police offers a lot of great songs and I found myself humming to most of them after the anime was over. The music feels very dark and futuristic which is the tone that the anime is going for. The dub is alright, not bad or great. I would suggest to watch it in sub instead because the voice acting is pretty hammy at times. I was told the Manga UK dub is better, but not by much. The biggest issue with A.D Police is the story in my opinion. This anime is only three episodes long and there could have been so much more to be done. A.D Police feels like it should have been a six episode OVA series instead. I love Leon McNichol and i feel like that he hardly does much outside of the first episode. The supporting cast in this anime is pretty lackluster too since I didn't care much about them. I do like that we do get definition and elaboration of what Boomers actually are, and their role in society since the original Bubblegum Crisis never really went over that. Unlike other OVA titles like M.D Geist, at least A.D Police try to add some themes like "How a human mind can inhabit a machine", "Losing touch of your humanity" and "Can machines feel pain?". Too bad these themes are poorly executed in A.D Police. Overall, A.D Police (1990 OVA) is a fun spin-off title in the Bubblegum Crisis franchise. The writing may be not great, but the action, music and atmosphere make up for it. If you are looking for philosophical content similar to Ghost in the Shell, you are not going to find in this anime. If you just want a fun dark sci-fi action anime, I suggest to check it out. Grade: 7/10 Bubblegum Crash - This was the only Bubblegum Crisis anime that I never saw growing up. So I finally saw this anime and I have no idea on what to think really? It has some good moments, but everything else sucks. The animation is not bad, but it feels lackluster compare to Bubblegum Crisis. The anime is lacking the amazing detail and the dark brooding cityscape of Mega-Tokyo. The animation looks and feels cheap compare to the original. The action scenes are nicely animated and that is probably the best thing about the animation in this anime. The music is pretty good, but the song are not as memorable compare to the songs in the first anime. The dub is mostly on the same level as the first anime. The sub version is pretty good and nice to see the other voice actors voice the characters one more time. I'm not a fan of the new voice actress for Priss, but I got used too it. The story is the biggest issue with this anime. So when did Mega Tokyo was cool with the idea of Boomers being used in Mega Tokyo? Also what happen to the rest of GENOM after Episode 8 in the original anime? Also what happened to Sylvie and Anri (the sexaroids)? I take it nobody else seems to remember anything either. Largo is somehow back despite being killed off in the first Bubblegum Crisis anime. I don't get how he return despite being blown off into bits. I guess it was nice to see what the other Knight Sabers was doing after the first anime series ended and seeing them want to move on. However that is throw out of the window pretty quickly later on. I did enjoy Episode 2 since the Boomer with the human mind-set was pretty likeable. The other episodes are okay...I guess. Bubblegum Crash is a very forgettable sequel and is a total let down. I can see why people never wanted me to watch it for many years. Bubblegum Crisis can stand on its own and has a decent story with good characters. Meanwhile Crash feels very rush and is poorly put together. Bubblegum Crash is the Dragon Ball GT of the Bubblegum Crash franchise. It's not god awful, but it could have been so much better. It has some good moments, but you can skip this one unless you want to see what happens next after Bubblegum Crisis. Grade: 5/10 One Piece Film: Gold - I'm not the biggest One Piece fan (I was a big fan before it was dubbed in English), but my friend wanted me to show this movie to me. I haven't read or seen the series in a while, so the movie was nothing too spoil heavy. The movie was pretty fun to watch. The animation was great and I love the setting in the movie. Big fans of the series will love the movie and probably consider it to be the best in the series. As a causal fan, I enjoy it. It was a bit long, but I didn't mind watching it. I will probably check out the dub one day. Grade: 7/10 Scramble Wars - This was a fun short and silly crossover. It was cool seeing these characters together in one big race. The interactions that we had with these characters from Artmic was a lot of fun to see. This anime is like Wacky Races with characters from Bubblegum Crisis, Gall Force, Genesis Survivor Gaiarth and many others. There was some funny moments that did give me a good laugh. I have a soft spot for SD type of anime, so I'm glad that I watch this. If you are a fan of Bubblegum Crisis or SD anime, I would give it a watch. It has some good moments and I enjoy it over Bubblegum Crash any day. Grade: 6/10 |
Disastrous Life of Saiki K. Watch it.
|
Finished last week all of the shows I was watching that season.
Konosuba had ended a little sooner, which is a shame. It's quite the fun show and binging through it to catch up halfway through its second season was pretty enjoyable. So I do wish there were more episodes. Especially since the light novels apparently still have a wealth of content left to get to. So hopefully we'll see a third season. Masamune-kun's ending was pretty disappointing. A few episodes in it became obvious they were going slow (but faithful at least) with the adaptation so it wasn't going to go as far as I'd liked, but the ending they were leading to still would have been fine as an anime ending. Then they resolved that in the first couple of minutes and just wasted the rest of the episode with an incredibly slow karaoke game. Ugh. So there was no revenge of course (not that there really was going to be...), but they didn't even really hint at where anything might go from there. Sure there was the tease of a Paris trip that will probably become an OVA, but nothing's resolved in that arc. I dunno, it just felt like a weird note to leave off on. Lastly... Naruto. It was a nice ending. Sure it didn't adapt the manga's epilogue, but we're getting the Boruto show soon anyway which I think starts before that. So we'll get to it. Plus the epilogue was pretty much just a bunch of pages of "LOOK! THESE PEOPLE HAD A KID. HEY CHECK OUT THEM OVER THERE. ALSO KID." Actually seeing the kids in much the same way we got to meet the main groups of Naruto as they started out will be much better IMO. Anyway, it ended at a pretty sensible point and I liked it. For next season I'm prepared to watch: Shingeki no Kyojin season 2 Boruto Berserk So not much again, and all sequels this time. Oh well, just more time to dig into my backlog. Been making progress on the One Piece movies and OVAs lately. Some of the older ones are pretty hard to track down heh. |
I might get hate for this but . . . I really don't like Madoka Magica. I watched it all in one go and it was just meh to me. I was not able to connect to any of the characters at all. And if I had to say anything good about it then that would have to be that it made the Ultraman episodes I watched after it so much better. Also Naruto sucks because so many damn forgetful fillers. Say what you want about the Bleach fillers but I can at least remember those. I hate that they replaced One Piece on Toonami and not Naruto.
|
I never like Madoka Magica at all as well, I try watching subbed and dubbed, the show is not my cup of tea.
|
Let's see:
1. Tekkaman Blade is awesome. The sad part is, I bought MB's DVDs the day each volume came out but have yet to watch it, which sucks because I watched the show 5 times when I owned those bootleg Hong Kong DVDs a decade ago. 2. Naruto is just ending now? Good god, wtf? The manga ended like 2 years ago. What the hell was so important with the show that they had to keep it going for 100 episodes? 3. I've yet to see Madoka. I really need to get ont that, but I guess since the series isn't supposed to end unti the fourth movie, there's no reason to rush. |
Quote:
|
Wait Madoka Magica had movies? I thought it was just a 12 episode series.
Also Tiger Mask W is good. |
Quote:
Have I mentioned I hate that series? I have? Well that's good, because I hate Madoka Magica. A lot. Anyway, what's a good anime that I can watch with my seven-year-old niece? |
