Fun Toku-related bit: Batou, the big guy with the small augmented eyes, was formally voiced by Akio Otsuka, aka the voice of Champ/Oushi Black of Kyuranger. He has been replaced in ARISE alongside the rest of the cast. |
so is ghost in the shell arise reboot or prequel to the first film
|
From what I've seen yes. If you like Ghost in the Shell, check out other works from Masamune Shirow. Appleseed and Dominion Tank Police are both great in my opinion.

Ghost in the Shell as an anime has three universes - Movie (Original movie & Innocence), Stand Alone Complex and Arise. All are unrelated from each other.

I tried watching this show called Severing Crime Edge and I couldn't make it past the second episode. It was down right dreadful. It was like the show had an identity crisis halfway through and didn't know what it wanted to be. The animation was pretty lackluster and the music kind of sucked too. Not going to bother watching any more of it.

Finished Saiki K. So I am gonna watch it again from the start. Planning to catch up on Tiger Mask W since I was unable to see it these days.
If you have not seen the two anime I have just mentioned go watch them they are really good. |
So I decided to give "Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers" a shot. It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But not as good as I was wanting it to be. I'll give it a few episodes.

Watching the Dragonball hour on Toonami, Super and Kai Final Chapters.

Your Name - I finally saw this movie which was the biggest anime film of 2016. This is my first time seeing anything from Shinkai Makoto and I really like the movie. I knew nothing about this movie before I saw this movie expect that it was a huge box office hit in Japan. This movie really took me by surprise and I love it.
The animation is absolutely gorgeous and Funimation's dub was great. I do plan to watch it subbed when it comes out on Blu-Ray. The movie had really good drama and comedy. I found myself really attach to the characters and moments that made me almost want to cry. Without spoiling much, I will say that the movie does have unresolved plot threads and some of the characters could have been better. This is a movie that you should see for yourself and watch it while it is in still in theaters. Overall, I really like this movie and I do want to watch it again. Grade: 9/10. |
Finally finished watching all the stuff I was watching for the Winter season (that ended in Winter too).
So there was... Gabriel DroOut. All in all, a pretty standard anime comedy. Not bad, pretty funny at times, but not too exciting for the most part. All things being equal, I'd give it about a 6/10 overall. But it did have one breakout character in the great archdemon Kuromizawa Satanichia McDowell. She was an inordinately entertaining character and really upped the humor and quality of the show quite a bit. Rather enjoyed it. Nobunaga no Shinobi ended. I'm not gonna watch the second season. ACCA was pretty cool, and had a satisfying finale, but I never really got too into it. I think it was probably a show that would have been better served by being watched after it was completed rather than week-to-week. It had an interesting setting, but not too much room to breathe in just 12 episodes, and with how much the plot had characters moving around, it was hard to keep track of everything at times. Youjo Senki was really good. The military+magic theme was well done, the protagonist was extremely well realized, and the whole thing was very fun to watch. I still find the character design questionable, but that's about it. Chaos;Child was like...definitely something. Not sure what exactly. Didn't enjoy it as much as any of the other science adventure shows I've watched. I'm not sure what exactly about it didn't jive with me...the art style and voice acting was often a source of irritation, and the story was way too crammed into the 12 episode format, but...I guess that may just be it. Last episode was kind of confusing in a couple different ways too. Kinda want to play the game now though. Classicaloid ended, at long fucking last. I'd rather shoot myself in the ears than watch the second season they're apparently making for some unimaginable reason. Honestly, I'd probably say this show was more aggressively mediocre than bad, but being so utterly uninteresting and largely unenjoyable for 25 episodes straight should be some sort of crime. Honestly found basically nothing to like in it. And lastly, Kobayashi-san Chi no MaiDragon. AOTS. 3-gatsu may, possibly, be better deserving of that position, but it was a holdover from Fall. MaiDragon is definitely my favorite show of the Winter season, and I'm almost mortified I wasn't even planning on watching it in the first place. The series had a couple of problems (both attached to Lucoa), but putting that shit aside (thankfully, it wasn't that big a part of the show), I really struggle to find anything to dislike about it. It was a comfortable, funny, heartwarming little show that I'm honestly really sad to see go. Beautiful visuals, great music, great animation, great performances from the vas...I enjoyed this anime on basically every level. Every level except the one Lucoa was on, anyway. I really wish she wasn't in this show. Easy 10/10 otherwise, at least for me. The last episode was a subtle assault on the place I keep all my feelings, and a very successful one too. All in all, this Winter season was actually pretty good for me. The only shows I didn't really enjoy were all holdovers from the previous season. Somehow the gods allowed me to not pick any duds this time around, save maybe for Chaos;Child which was less me picking it and it just being a sequel to a show I'd seen. In comparison to Winter my Spring is looking pretty light. Gonna keep watching Applimonsters and Little Witch Academia...other than that it's just Shingeki no Kyojin and Cinderella Girls Gekijou, and I'm planning on giving Fukumenkei Noise and Sakurada Reset a try. That's about it. Haven't started any of them yet though. Got some other stuff to do first... |
Just saw the first episode of My Hero Academia Season 2, and like the first episode of season 1 it felt like nothing happened and something that would take 5 to 10 minutes took the whole episode. Hope things get better with the next episode.

Also, I highly recommend Space Patrol Luluco, it's from Studio TRIGGER and there's an episode of KLK and LWA in there lol. The anime is watchable in an hour |
I picked up "My Hero Academia" as well, watched season 1 last Sunday and the available season 2 episodes today.
I must say I quite enjoy this. Characters are interesting, comedy is good and the action is cool. I don’t think I could call it quite unique in what it does but it's too much fun for that to be a huge negative in my opinion. However I do think about how the show would've looked like if Midoriya became a Batman-kinda hero, someone who can stand his own among human gods simply because of his wits and strength. In fact that was my biggest gripe with the show early on. He gets superpowers handed over and then the issue of him being a minority of a normal human in a society of super-people is basically gone. But then I thought about it for a while and I think All Might's right, in some situations you've got to be realistic. Someone without superpowers could not hold up in this world if he decides to fight against all these powers. It's actually kind of a throwaway line, but him saying that becoming a policeman instead is actually solid advice. That also made me realize how fun a show about a policeman (or woman) in this world could be. And I also realized how Midoriya works for his dreams, it’s not the powers which give him a perspective or a dream, he always had it. He was just given a chance to prove that he has what it takes. And he still uses his own strength and will, I mean he’s still in a phase where he can’t control his powers properly so he has to rely on his own talents more often than not anyways. And I quite like how he builds himself up. To be honest my favorite moments in this show are when he succeeds in dire situations. I guess that’s what people like seeing anyways, right? Someone who proves himself against the odds and works for his successes, and then seeing this work pay off big time. Anyways, this is one of the very few anime I'm watching these days so I hope it continues to be successful. Would be cool if they could slowly but surely adapt the source material. I have no problem with just buying all the manga books if the show stops but I love the visuals, the voice actors and the energy behind it so I would hate to see it disappear in an unfinished state. Lastly, a question to you guys: Who are your favorite heroes so far? Both rookies and pro's. In the rookie department it's kinda hard since there are so many likable characters but I think I have to choose Momo. I like her style and her power is one I'd like to have myself. Creation is just so damn useful. But it has its price since you need to understand how something works on a cellular level before you can materialize it. I guess I like her because she reminds me of the alchemists from Full Metal Alchemist? That’s probably it. With the pro's it's not that much easier, but we've got a little bit less characters to choose from. I like Mic the most honestly. I love these crazy DJ-type characters and sound/shockwaves are so damn strong. Loved the animation when he entered the fight at the end of season 1 a lot too, the "YEAH!"-effect within the wave looked so damn cool. But of course All Might is fantastic in all of his forms, and Eraser Head is badass too, but for personal favorites I’d go with Present Mic. |

...Is what I would say if it wasn't for the spinoff manga called My Hero Academia ILLEGALS which has a Quirkless hero, it's darker and about vigilanties from what I hear. Maybe that'd help Favourite characters are Deku, Iiya and Tsu |
I enjoy My Hero Academia Season 1 despite some of the problems that I had with it. I will watch Season 2 when it is done airing. Since it is Spring Break for me, I have more time to watch anime that I didn't get the chance to finish yet. I will should try to finish Ajin Season 2 soon since it is one of my favorite series of this modern generation of anime & manga.

New season's in full swing. Still not picked up anything new, but the sequels I've started haven't been that bad.
Boruto's exactly what you'd think. Probably won't even bother to go into that since it seems can't mention Naruto here without just endless replies of "it sucks" so that's cool. But yeah, not worth checking out if you didn't already care for the original. Berserk was alright. I think the animation might have improved from the first season, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. Everyone's faces in particular are still just too stoic and bland. The first episode was kind of a disappointment - the encounter I'd been looking forward to amounted to nothing. But the second had some backstory I'd really been wanting and reunited the party so we can really start moving forward. Kind of know enough about Guts at this point, so want to see more of the other characters. Attack on Titan's been alright, but the hype is definitely gone so my interest is suffering some (plus being caught up on the manga now, nothing's new so not as exciting compared to when I watched first before reading). It's still good IMO, just not as good as I once felt. Plus the arc this season is covering isn't that strong anyways until the end. Sure as hell wish there were going to be more episodes though. |
Favorited would be Tsu for the frog theme and for some reason I find cute. Least favorite is easily the perv with the ball power he just annoys me.
One good series I do recommend is Overlord, art and music is nice and enjoyable so far. Quote:

Silent Mobius: The Motion Picture - It has been about 9 or 8 years since I've seen this movie, so I decided to re-watch it. Silent Mobius is one of my favorite franchises growing up and the movie holds up very well.
The art style and animation are top-notch as well as the story. The animation is very well detail and all the characters designs are very nicely done. All of the monsters look really awesome in my opinion and I miss when anime from the past had really awesome monster designs. The setting of Tokyo feels dark and futuristic which captures the mood of the anime. There is a really nice mix of supernatural and sci-fi mix into Silent Mobius that they did a fantastic job on creating the atmosphere for the anime. Silent Mobius and older anime like Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Gunbuster, Wings of Honneamise, Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade, Perfect Blue, Wicked City, and several others still have animation that still looks great even many decades later. The story is very well done because the story of demons invading a Blade Runner type of city and having the Tokyo Police in charge of supernatural activity is so awesome. Katsumi Liqueur is a great main character and her character development was very nicely done too. I think they did a great job on handling her character development after she gets over the shock of seeing her mother destroyed by a demon. The supporting cast could have been better and the story is bit hard to follow at first, but they still had a great job on telling a story in 55 minutes. They help create a really awesome world with cool characters, great action and a dark futuristic atmosphere to draw us in the world of Silent Mobius. I feel like Silent Mobius was inspired by the Bubblegum Crisis series since they are both set in the a futuristic world with a female cast fighting monsters. The music is great too and the re-dub from Ocean Group is also great too. I never seen the original Streamline dub, but I do like the Ocean dub pretty well. The Japanese version is also fantastic too. Silent Mobius: The Motion Picture is still a great supernatural cyberpunk film with great animation, great music, cool characters and a kick ass story. It is a shame that the series has fade into obscurity over the years and this is a anime film that you should watch more than once. This movie is not perfect, but Silent Mobius: The Motion Picture has a lot to offer. I would recommend this anime if you like the Bubblegum Crisis series, demon invasion stories or old school anime titles. Grade: 8/10 |
I keep seeing My hero Academia characters everywhere so i finally decided to watch the show.
Watched the first episode and Holy shit, i feel for this kid so freaking badly. |

Anyways I am watching Dragon Ball Super at the pace of a sloth. Should catch up on Tiger Mask W and elDLIVE. |
I hate the Silent Mobius movies. They pretty much butchered the story into a mess. The TV version I loved, but it was a shame they gave it its own middle finger ending. I wanted to pick up the manga, but the company that was releasing it went under before even getting to the halfway point.
Oh, we FINALLY sat down to watch the Cowboy Bebop BLu-Rays I got when the set came out like two years ago. Good god it has been a long time since I have watched this show and I really need to start getting better at watching the things I have bought more often, especially when it comes out anime. This show is so damn amazing and we finished the first disc (so the first 9 episodes) which didn't have a single bad episode on it. I really can't wait to watch the next disc though because it features two of top three favorite episodes. All of the characters are great, the music rocks, the animation looks superior to most of the shows that were coming out at the time, and of course the episode plots are just all around fun. Oh, and the remastering job Funimation did is also outstanding. |
Im on episode 8 of My hero Academia.
That fight with Sparky Sparky Boom man was so damn good! |
Saw some Tiger Mask W. Getting really interesting.
|
We finished Cowboy Bebop today. I know I'm repeating myself, but I really need to get back into watching this show more often. It is amazing. The ending is so perfect and badass. One of the best anime endings ever. There's only one episode that I don't really care for, but even that one isn't bad, it's just not that interesting to me (Wild Horses). With that said, my top favorite episodes are Toys in the Attic, Pierre Le Fou, Mushroom Samba, Cowboy Funk, and Speak Like a Child. Good god is Spike and Jet's search for a Betamax hilarious, especially when they end up retrieving a VHS player instead. I give this show a perfect 10/10 stars and if you are an anime fan who has never seen this show, you are doing yourself a complete disservice.

Started Kabukibu and Atom the Beginning.
Kabukibu is a school drama/comedy about a kabuki nerd trying to start his own kabuki theater club. Oh and CLAMP did the character designs. Atom the Beginning is about the two scientists from the manga/anime and an early version of Atom or Astro Boy for those recognize him with that name. It seems like a prequel+re-imagining of the classic from the looks of it. |
So we watched the first 10 episodes of Space Dandy. This show is a lot better being marathoned than it was when I was watching it once a week on CN. Also, I never realized I never saw the racing epsiode and my god, that was one fucking awesome episode! Probably my favorite episode thus far (followed by the zombie one). The plant episode was quite enjoyable too. Oh, and I'm not sure how I missed this the first time through, but THAT WAS THE FRIDGE FROM TOYS IN THE ATTIC!!!!! Anyway, we'll watch more next week.

I'm at Episode 5 on Tokyo Ghoul and does this show get any better? The show feels like a cliche series to me similar formula to so many others titles like Parasyte, Devilman, 3x3 Eyes and Ajin: Demi-Human. The main character is unlikeable and the supporting cast feels weak in my opinion. The animation is pretty good at times, but everything about this show sucks if you ask me. So why is this show popular?
|
Quote:
New My Hero Academia out today. Goddamn, do I love this show |
People tell me that it gets better when Kaneki has stopped being such a whine baby. However the show is 13 episodes long and I'm at episode 5 which is nearly half way done. So far, the show has done nothing for me and people will say "Just read the manga". If I didn't like the show, I doubt I will like the source material much better.
I will the show another three more episodes before I drop it. Ajin: Demi-Human came out around the same time as Tokyo Ghoul and that series was much better in my opinion. It's a shame that the US modern anime & manga fandom is not talking about it as much compare to Tokyo Ghoul, My Hero Academia, Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail or whatever is popular on Cruchy Roll. |
We watched episodes 11-19 of Space Dandy today. They were pretty good, especially episodes 14 and 15, which were fantastic. I loved seeing a multiverse of the trio and done in different art styles. Although, the emo Dandy was hysterical. I wish they had shown us how the show reverted back to that version, but that would require there being continuity.
Episode 15 was friggin phenomenal. Probably my favorite episode of the entire series thus far. That Skull Kid was creepily badass. I loved the music that was playing when Dandy went into his backyard to discover the victims. Getting to learn a bit about Honey was great too. I could have done without the annoying laugh track though. Regardless, the fact that she made Gel's machine break down when they tried to scan her brain and that she came up with her own capture plot was great. Lastly, is it just me, or does the animation seem different from the first season? I get the different animation for the multiverse episode, but even the ones with the talking fish and the fishing episodes were different. On the other hand, I could have done with the pointless musical episode. Well next Saturday we plan to finish the show. I hope the ending is worth it. |
